Great Vid, Hegshot. As for the dead-red issue, I talked about this in another forum. The sensors at traffic lights are not weight detectors, they are actually metal detectors and can detect the movement of the engines crank shaft. If you look at the crack in the pavement outlining the presence of said detector, the most sensitive area on the detector is left and right of the crack with in 4 inches of the circular area. I've never had an issue getting the advance LH turn signal to operate knowing this fact. Stay Safe.
Yeah, I had a lighter frame and some tripped, about 4 in town here wouldn't trip even over the line. I put a neodymium magnet the size of a dime under the mount to my left foot-peg, and never again had a problem anywhere. Even better, at all the corners re-paved, and even some just with new lights - they've put cameras in and even a pedal bike is visible if they are near the imaginary edge of a car at the white line. We almost never need dead-red laws anymore. WELL, every car-show in Carlisle, PA about 5 or so strategic lights get put in manual mode and controlled by a man at the box till show traffic is mostly gone to the hotels every night. Once, on the last day of the show one of the switchers didn't get it back to normal correctly and it didn't change for ANY car, truck or turtle the next morning. Since 2018, it's been legal here for any driver of any vehicle to run a broken light "when safe", but try to find a safe time in morning rush hour traffic to cross a state route from a side street?
@@heyitsmeshane Well Yes and no Shane. The Sensors are circular and about 3 feet wide. and front most is about 1 foot back of the crossing's " Prior-stop line " in front of the crosswalk. So if you stop Center-lane about 1 foot back of the line, you should be in the vicinity. But riders should be in left or right side of the lane when stopping .... so you want to be about over top of said circle and stopping at the 9 or 3 o'clock position over top of the ring with your engine .... not the front tire. and at the stop you want your engine over top of the circle within 4 inches left or right of its ring.Think of it as a big do-nut, you want your engine over the do-nut ring , not over the middle of the do-nut .... make sense ??? So left or right will work... That's why we rev our bikes a bit at the stops,. ... But most riders are in the middle of the lane anyways and the throttle-blipping there is pointless. BTW, Riding in the @ 2 position is way-bad attitude looking for bad karma. Seriously. Ride in L1 or L3 and always keep a look out for an "out"if you need one Stay Safe.
@Yamahog yeah I never ride in L2 but I thought the sensors worked in the center. I'll have to try this tomorrow at the light down the road that never picks me up...
Let’s also be honest about there’s a small part in all of our brains, when we’re doing something and 4 wheelers can’t do. And they’re looking at you like WTF man? And you’re like yeah it’s legal, and I kind of do what I want 🤷♂️
Love your comments about the experiences riding that you don't get in a car, even with the windows down. You smell every little thing. Pine trees or orange groves, or a farm. You're right about the tiny temperature differences also. You'll never experience any of that in a cage.
Yes, this! The smells and the little temp changes always make the experience much more immersive. Even the gross smells like riding past a sewage treatment area, just makes me laugh. Riding past some restaurants, construction site, and smelling the floral air in the spring as you ride in rural areas. I've even started to like the smell of exhaust! Or when I'm in the sun and then ride through trees and the shade drops the temp about 10 degrees. Stuff you never get n a cage.
When I lived in San Jose, I split lanes regularly when commuting. On several occasions I did so for tens of miles in heavy traffic. One time for over 70 miles on a big HD. I hope they approve it in Texas. It gets damned hot here and it would help keep our bikes cooler.
Traffic is so bad in the Bay Area that if you didn’t split, you would end up getting rear ended. I was doing that from Sunnyvale to the east bay for a few years.
I once had a problem with a non-functioning stoplight detector (at least for bikes) right in my neighborhood and reported it. To my surprise, in a couple weeks it was fixed! Also, I once sat at light for long enough to tell that it was not going to change for me (a left turn light), so when it was clear, I ran it and just around the corner, a cop pulled me over. I explained the situation and he let me go no problem - he said he hadn't been there while I was waiting, so he took my word for it; maybe it pays to be old (I'm 76). Nice to meet a kind cop.
Went to Needles my first year of having a motorcycle. Awesome experience. Did all the rides in Sturgis area that year . Been back there three times since then . 2023 rode there from central Illinois alone , got there in the rain , left there in the rain . Still had a great time seeing my Sturgis friends .
good talk. It"s just better on a bike!!! Always enjoyed the first warm days of spring, cruising alongside the river. One gets a feeling of joy, like your flying. I'll ride forever, and love every minute of it.
Ya, definitely gotta watch out for certain drivers. I've had a psycho in a lifted truck rage out trying to run me over cuz he got pissed off about lane splitting. He broke a whole lot more laws than I would have been if splitting wasn't legal.
Nice video, where's the segment on wearing proper gear?I see alot of people that never had road rash before, flip flops, runners, shorts n t shirts are fine if your not on a bike,It looks dumb as hell, been watching son's of anarchy to long😜ever notice how their riding down the hwy an nobody's wearing eye glasses 🤓😀😀😀.

I completely agree with your idea on lane splitting. I’m originally from California and trained there as a law enforcement motorcycle officer/instructor riding both professionally and personally for over 20 years there. Splitting was much safer than risking getting squashed between two vehicle in a rear end collision. Now I live in Arizona, where splitting is illegal, but lane filtering at intersection is legal. I’ve had many social media debates over this subject and get so many comments from cager’s that think we think are entitled and being unsafe and even other motorcyclists that state they’ve been riding for many years and would never consider doing something they think his so dangerous.
Read up on Arizona law. Splitting is illegal. Full stop. Filtering is not. Both should be legal, but do not make objective statements when a simple Google search proves you wrong.
I used to live in CA. Lane splitting was great on my Honda until some frustrated driver decides to vent his frustration on you. A guy tried to sandwich me between his car and another car. The result was his mirror being broken off and my knuckles getting bruised. Anyway, I ride an Electra Glide now. I don't think I'll be splitting lanes if I ride in CA ( if I ever go back there again).
I am from Washington state, and lived in Florida, now I live in Thailand and motorcycles in my city out number cars 10 to 1, we have streets here that have signs "NO Cars", motorcycles are good, and place say "No Car parking", motorcycles have 10 - 20 parking spots. I have a small Honda PCX 160 and I get 100+ mpg. I love the Thailand laws. Question: When can you drive the wrong way on a one way road? Answer: When it's safe to go. That is the answer to almost every question if it sounds like a trick question.
Here in California I ride daily and I always lane filter. And I sometimes lane split at 80 mph or 90 MPH to escape aggressive freeway cager tailgaters. I ride my Diavel V4 so I have plenty of torque at any speed to quickly execute a pass. I also always look in my rear view mirrors when I'm breaking or engine breaking. I live up in the Northern Sierras so I was born in the mountain twisties and fresh air. Yesterday it was 29 degrees on my way 50 miles down the mountain to work in Sacramento California. I love dodging the black ice and deer early in the icey cold morning it's awesome.
I ran a red light in Northern Illinois for 2 years every morning. Till one morning the light changed for me as I was running it. Traffic engineer had fixed it. I filtered in England for 3.5 years.
I move from right to left so I can see the vehicle in front of the vehicle in front of me. That gives me more reaction time for hazards on the road or quick traffic stop. I can see him swerve or brake before the one in front of me.
Great vid. You forgot about Lane Filtering. Motorcycles are allowed to tranverse between cars at a stop light to be in the front. This way we don't get hit from behind at a stop light. Every state to my knowledge allows filtering, but it is not a written rule.
Alot of these cagers just hate bikes I get cut off and pushed out of my lane all the time. They love to blow there horn when you're going around them because they can't go around.
Hey Bro 👋 I'm embarrassed to admit that I honestly didn't know about this, but... After you talked about the sensors in the paint and how they control the traffic light timing... I immediately realized and now understood why certain local intersections in my city, would always keep me for an extremely long time before the red light would turn green... Much Appreciated, even though I'm almost 60 now, I'll always appreciate learning something new!!! 😊 👍 🙏 Just Sayin'🤬
In CA, we spit per the laws. You can only go 15MPH faster than the speed of traffic up to 30MPH max. However, this is heavily abused unfortunately. CA cagers are used to this though and most slide aside to give us space to split. Subscribed!
This is not true. It is the LAW that you can lane split up to the posted speed limit. The California Highway Patrol SAFETY GUIDELINES (not LAWS) states that motorcyclists should only split up to 40MPH and not more than 10 MPH over the flow of traffic. That is not LAW, that is SAFETY GUIDELINES from the CHP. Hope this helps.
@@heyitsmeshane Perhaps semantics, but I dare anyone to argue that when they're in contempt of cop... see how that goes for them. While these guidelines are not strict legal requirements, they serve as important safety recommendations to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of everyone on the road. Violating these guidelines could potentially result in fines or penalties if deemed unsafe by law enforcement. Choose your own adventure I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@GovG33k Yes, at some point you get into "Unsafe for Conditions" which is very subjective. I just wanted to make a point of clarifying the law as it pertains to lane splitting specifically. Operating any vehicle at speeds "Unsafe for Conditions" can get you a ticket.
@@heyitsmeshane The California Vehicle Code Section 21658.1 does not explicitly state the speed limits for lane splitting. Instead, it provides a general guideline that lane splitting should be done safely which WILL be used against the rider if pulled over. They're not getting pulled over for a pat on the back.
When it comes to lane splitting, one thing I haven't heard anyone talk about is, if it's the middle of Summer, and you're wearing a helmet, and dressed in leather, it can get seriously hot sitting over a motorcycle engine. I mean 'pass out from heat stroke' hot.
Fun fact, Cali doesn't have an actual speed limit for lane splitting, only a recommendation. I have split with CHP at 70mph+. As long as you're not being reckless, it's legal to split at 70mph
When I lived in CA there was no written legislation on lane splitting. Cops generally recommended 10 mph faster than the cars you're passing. Of course I don't know what they would give you a ticket for if you were passing at 20 mph faster than the cars.
@@robertgantry2118it's under reckless riding and if they feel like it they can ticket you even if it's completely safe, if they're in a bad mood. You could be passing at 1mph faster, it's all a matter of discretion as to what is considered reckless
@robertgantry2118 It would be a reckless driving ticket along with I'm assuming a speeding ticket. But you would typically have to try for that to happen as someone who used to spit highway traffic at 70-90mph with CHP doing it with me. They just say don't be stupid about it.
@speaktruth247 Not when other traffic is doing 60mph+ lol lane splitting by definition is not when traffic is at a slow speed or even stopped. Splitting is when traffic is at higher speeds.
lol. running reds is great. over time you memorize all the stupid lights that don't get tripped by a bike and just act like it is a stop sign. I bet cars think we are just being jerks but we really aren't they just don't trigger. I am glad this state has really good motorcycle laws. as well as a bunch of freedom.

Us motorcycle riders have to avoid manholes, potholes and assholes. It’s crazy out there. By the way, I love cruising on the I77 express lane here in the Charlotte area. Great video!!!
Neat video. Here in Florida, i think 2 cycles of the light changing, then you can run the red. The changes in temperature and smells is interesting to say the least. This past week it was 28 degrees in the morning (florida) and only the motorcycle for transportation, that was a cold 30 minute ride, but hey, it was fantastic, while being a freaking bummer at the same time. Until next time.
In Arizona we can legally "Lane Filter" which means we can split traffic but only at a stopped intersection ... basically we can move to the front at a stop light (if you can fit between cars)

The sensors at red lights are MAGNETIC. They do NOT sense aluminum which many bikes are made mostly of. I get syranded all the time in Arlington texas. I just make sure no cars are visible when I roll on thru!
My work has special motorcycle parking spots and it is a small part of why i finally got a motorcycle. The other part is that my family always went to the local harley dealer to get santa pictures when we were younger.
Lane splitting is legal in my state (of Queensland Australia). It never used to be but everyone did it anyway, eventually the Law-makers came around. Did it right in front of a cop the other day for the first time ever (felt like freedom to me)
Here in the People's Republic of New York motorcycles are the red-haired step child. We must obey all the laws that Cars, vans, tricks are subject to. The only vehicles which have leeway are the police. So that they can issue summons to add to the treasuries of the state and localities. If given the option. I'm sure Aunt Kathy would have us banned all together.

Hey when we are using the complete lane we are in its also to let the driver in front of us know that we are behind him and whether I'm on the right or left side of the lane if the driver I'm following stops suddenly or hits heavy traffic I can split safely. I'm in Ca.
Road closed is the same as "Reserved for just you" around here. Roads get closed because they get washed out or flooded during monsoons so if you can ride through the missing section or swollen river it's all yours, no traffic, you can just rip around like a hooligan.
I drove a tractor trailer rig for almost 30 years and I’ve seen everything or at least most everything. We’re living in a time such as I’ve read in the good book about the end times where there will be nashing of teeth & brother against brother and I’ve seen some very disturbing bouts of anger on the roadways by my very own so-called Professional Truck Drivers. Heading to Nashville one day I saw a motorcycle running the skinny (inner small shoulder) of the interstate in a backup where we were moving very very slowly often coming to a stop. Welll, out of nowhere a big Peterbilt ran that, seems like it may have been a dual sport bike which isn’t big & heavy, but still, the big rig driver threw the truck to the left & the bike quickly sped up getting past unharmed running in the dry grassy median with the big truck stopping completely off the pavement & in the grass. It was dry so he just drove back to his spot. Another time I saw a big truck in another another stop & go backup and as an off ramp was coming up in eyesight a bike about the size of a 750 four came along on the shoulder & a big truck ran him off into the ditch but thankfully he managed to keep control even though the bike was definitely out of it’s element and the bike got back on the shoulder thankfully and got off at the exit. As a lifelong motorcycle rider I definitely frowned about that BS & had to say something about doing such an act of aggression but didn’t hear anything back & I probably wouldn’t have said anything else because apparently these instances were definitely a moment of insanity. Cars have got close to killing me at times mainly because they’re distracted idiots but I must advise you to be quick getting past a big truck & be advised to carefully be on the lookout when traveling the shoulder because it’s a general practice for big trucks to control traffic that uses the shoulder, blocking them. Sometimes the 4 wheelers can cause problems when they make another lane out of the shoulder but I’m pretty sure several of the truck drivers have got the attitude that “I can’t go & you’re going to wait your turn” attitude which IS definitely a problem for an air cooled engine & even one of my bikes with a radiator still can overheat seriously needing to move. Sorry this has been so long but it’s my 2 cents worth. Now you know the rest of the story. Good Day! Live to ride & ride to live.
I've found in my riding that if I'm on top of a sensor at a stop and the sensor is parallel with the bike it'll usually make the lights work. California is not the only state where lane splitting is allowed. Some of the other states have conditional laws on it. Some states have no law allowing or disallowing lane. Splitting. Look up federal motorcycle transport. It will tell you what is the laws for each state in each case.
Barbarosa? Yeah, man. Once a week I guided on the French Broad River for a Dude Ranch - on one of our off-days on the Big Pigeon. We passed by that bar every time not long before we would pull out. We went in there once after a trip because they kept hollaring at us to come by sometime. Cool people.
11:05: You covered it correctly, I would have doubled down on why and how important that is. When a van or car needs to open a ramp or use a chair lift to let the driver exit the side, anything in that blue area between handicap spaces can completely prevent them from using that space, or trap them out of their vehicle. This is beyond rude and as a near daily motorcycle commuter I have NO remorse for those who get towed from those spaces incurring charges and fines. Use the sidewalk where it doesn't block doors, use end-caps marked where it's not a traffic lane and not quite enough for another car space, use two to four bikes to a spot, no problem with taking many liberties in parking lots, but not in the blue areas.
We lane split all the time here in Northern California. I just personally don’t lane split while on a turn. I’ve seen a rider get sandwiched by to cars
Arizona also have lane filtering laws, I don't know about lane splitting being 50 state legal, now lane filtering like in Arizona I can see getting passed much easier
I drive semis as well as ride. Different vehicles have different abilities to do everything. You need to give semis room in front and behind. Bikes need a cushion to get out of the way. Trailers like to drift side to side from small changes and need to be given side to side space. Car drivers don't even pay attention. Imagine people not paying attention driving or towing anything else. People need to see you and you need to see them. If not, one of you will make a mistake that the other person doesn't have time to react to
I lane split commuting to work in NYC and Texas. Probably save 5 hours a week of commute in NYC. In Texas, only save some time when there’s a major accident.
We can lane filter in utah. No splitting the lane on highways. The road has to be at least 4 wide and under 45 but there folks who do it anyways. It's much better but not as good as Cali.
I am definitely for lane splitting (though I think it tends to provoke road rage from drivers at times), but never been pro filtering as I think it is more dangerous, particularly as a number of riders don't actually follow the rules when it comes to difference in speeds between themselves and traffic. Can't count the number of times some dude on a sport bike came blasting by on the passenger side while I was driving in Cali on the highway, doing 30mph+ above traffic speed.
Posting this on every comment talking about California lane splitting because so much confusion. It is the LAW that you can lane split up to the posted speed limit. That is not LAW, that is SAFETY GUIDELINES from the CHP. Hope this helps.
@@glendavies651 Correct. But as it pertains to the law as written and not the whim of the officer, the posted speed limit is the legal limit. Just like excess speed in the rain or snow or anything else could be deemed unsafe.
@@heyitsmeshane the posted limit is not always the legal limit, if the speed is unsafe for conditions. Example: completely stopped traffic and a motorcycle is splitting at 50 MPH and the posted speed is 65.
In Key West, motorcycle and scooter parking is free (parking is a huge issue there) in designated motorcycle parking spots (all over). But if you go to the Hogs Breath Saloon, a biker bar, they charge you to park in their motorcycle parking lot. 20 feet away, on the street, its free.

There’s been a lot of talk about lane splitting recently. Recently, Minnesota signed a law to allow lane filtering in 2025. In April, Colorado signed a bill into a law that legalizes lane filtering beginning in August. In September, 2022, Arizona became the fourth state to allow lane filtering. Montana enacted their law in early 2021. California has always “allowed” lane splitting, but only formalized this into law in 2016. Currently, eight states are considering legalizing lane splitting or lane filtering, as it’s been shown that these practices are safer. Also, if you’re about to rent a motorcycle when you travel, it’s best to understand the local lane splitting and lane filtering laws before hitting the road.
I’m from SC and last year moved to MI. I’ve been hit from the rear waiting to make a left, got lucky and only tore the fake leather saddle bag to bits. But the driver’s in MI are horrible to be on a motorcycle around. I never had the problems with drivers that I’ve got up here. By the way, I only ride, no car. This state is going to get me killed.
7:32 for anyone wondering, you can use HOV express lanes like on I-25 for free in Colorado, but you’ll pay the full toll on the non-HOV ones like I-70 and C470, as well as on toll roads like E470. Basically, if there’s no HOV 3+ free sign, you’ll be paying the same as a car for a given tolled stretch of pavement.
In California you have 365 days of warm rideable weather there fore motorcycles are on the road alot.Midwest riders get 4 to 6 months of riding people are not as aware of motorcycles ,you taking a big risk splitting lanes when they don't see you during normal riding.
haha, you're funny. Yes, good information, is well presented. But in the end, you had a bit of a problem (choke-up moment) when explaining what it's like riding a bike. I get it, you know as a real (your dif are! a real biker, it's so unbelievable, is why we love it so much and the others just don't get it. Well done.
I’m in Oregon and out for a ride one day I went through a town and sat waiting for the green left turn arrow. I sat there for 2 light change cycles when a cop pulled up next to me and said “Just to let you know, if you don’t get a green after 2 cycles you can go against the red, just be careful.”
Last year, COLORADO passed Lane filtering. Motorcycles may go between cars at stoplights. The cars must be stopped and the motorcycle cannot go above 15 mph. It’s a safety law. COLORADO passed to prevent motorcycles or help prevent motorcycles from getting rear ended at stoplight.
NY state has cashless tolling where they'll use E-ZPass or read your license plate. Since E-ZPass, lifting toll gates have disappeared. I realized that my Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic license plate location is so far under the tour pak that license plate readers don't see it. So I removed my E-ZPass tag from my bike. NJ was using the plate as a backp if your tag doesn't work, but you have to have an E-ZPass accout or you get fined. NY state doesn't even require that you have an account. I don't pay tolls any more on my bike because they can't read my plate. I've been doing it for years.
Lane splitting and lane filtering are two different things. Filtering is going to the front at stop lights. Splitting is going between cars while traffic is moving at road speed. Also, California is not the only state now. AZ legalized lane filtering in Sep 2024. There are of course stipulations to doing it but it is legal here now.
FL Statute 316.209 forbids both lane splitting (passing while other vehicles are in motion) and filtering (passing while other vehicles are stationary). I’m not saying I agree with it; but, it’s what legislators have done to motorcycle riders.
The only legal restriction on the speed of lane splitting in California is that you cannot be going above the speed limit. Now, there are a lot of people who claim that there is (like your point of less than 40mph), but that's not in the law nor is it in the CHP guidelines. There are a lot of online sources that do say this, but it's a myth that it's part of the California law. But that said, LEOs can still cite you for reckless driving if you are doing it in a way that they deem unsafe for driving conditions, even if you're under the speed limit...like if traffic is moving at 10mph, and you're splitting at 65mph because that's the speed limit.
Laws be what they may, I believe strongly in self preservation. Lane splitting will save some time, but sooner or later it just isn't going to work out. I have owned and enjoyed motorcycles in my life and I just wait my turn at red lights and traffic jams, in the end not that much time is lost. Besides at my age the pavement has become so much harder and abrasive than it was 50 years ago.
It is not the limited width of a moto that fails to trip the sensor it is the lack of ferrous metal. Body on frame and unibody cars/trucks are made of steel and are inches from the pavement. Motorcycles might have a steel frame and steel hardware holding things together but the engine, the wheels are made of non ferrous metals that do not trip light sensors. My Suzuki VStrom often fails to trip the light sensor. I wait and go when actual traffic allows.
I never knew that any State allowed you to go through a red light after sitting there for a long time and not activating Censors. Late at night with no traffic, I have looked all ways for caps and proceeded both on a motorcycle and in a car. I would not be "Running a Red Light" as Hegshit Rides said, I would be stopping checking for any oncoming traffic then Proceeding when it was safe to do so.
Cali rider. And it is lane sharing. It is legal to pass on either left or right of cager as long as rider maitains the lane. It is illegal to impede a riders path of travel.
My usual explanation is that when you drive, you are in your car, and your car is wherever you are driving. On a motorcycle, YOU are in the place where you are riding.
I’m a native Californian, and all 3 sons born here; Love the beauty and the unparalleled great M. C. rides but I HATE HATE what the Jr Hi brained Gov. Newsom and legislature has done to RUIN this state in all arenas. We lead America in FOOLISHNESS.
Key is knowing the laws in your state. Drawback of having rules/laws for motorcycles being different from cars varying between states is that there's no consistent education programs & car drivers don't learn or car about bikes, and get pissed when bikes can do things they can't (legally) & adds to risk of road rage & aggression to bikes. But some bikers seem to enjoy taunting cars & triggering that rage, too. (I ride 2 wheels with motors & w/out--car drivers even more pissed about bicycles using a car lane--which is legal to use as much of the lane as necessary to be safe--as often shoulders are full of crap or don't exist. But bicycles also should not ignore common traffic laws. It angers me to see flagrant violations, of any # wheels or feet, endangering themselves or others.
How does experiencing the elements fall under either legal or illegal? I ask because you seemed to have a bullet-pointed list that just....fell apart. And you didn't see any car crushed between two semis. stahp lyin. lol
Lane Filtering and Lane Splitting are two different things. Agree with Lane Filtering. It's safe to be able to filter to the front of the of a stopped line of traffic at a stop light. Lane splitting, being allowed to split lanes at any speed, even highway speed, however, I don' think should be legal at all. Study by UC Berkley found 1 in 5 motorcycle accidents stem from lane splitting. But, again, Lane *filtering* yes. My 2 cents, anyway... ✌😎
I have been riding in Cali for most of my life; I'm 76 now still ride almost daily. Lane splitting is a way of life here and so much more efficient and safer. Personally, on the freeway, if the traffic is moving over about 40 mph, I'll go with the flow. But if things stack up and start doing the stop start boogy and get slow, then I'm out of there. Unfortunately, there are more than a few fools who abuse it - I've seen these guys split with an incredible speed differential and it's just so stupid - also scares the pee waddin out of the cagers and makes us look like assholes. Just got to use good judgment. That is one thing about diamond lanes - they are positively great for us and having the access is a blessing, but I've got to tell you, going with the flow in those lanes when you're all flying along at 80 or so right next to a stopped lane just to your right makes my butt pucker. Some times, though it is illegal, a cager will decide he wants in the HOV lane and just cross those double yellow and bring it on over. That possibility keeps me on my toes. I have traveled every state and Canada and I can well remember sitting south of Miami on I95 at a dead stop on a scorching day and can't split while my sweat is running into my shoes - or sitting there in a rainstorm dead stopped and getting drowned. I sometimes park in, shall we say, unconventional places and I always look at it this way - I'm saving a spot for a car in a regular parking spot while I'm tucked in a corner they can't use anyway. Ride safe, brother.
I'm in Orygun and my VS1400 has straight pipes, and have even been pulled over, but never one word from the cop about noise. Loud pipes save lives.... what?
In mn in July 1 2025 lane splitting will be legal. So much distracted driving going on id be scared to lane split but on the other hand thats when you get hit from behind

If you look at the crack in the pavement outlining the presence of said detector, the most sensitive area on the detector is left and right of the crack with in 4 inches of the circular area. I've never had an issue getting the advance LH turn signal to operate knowing this fact.
Stay Safe.
I used to always put my side stand down on the light sensors- the direct contact with the metal usually triggered the lights.
Wait wait wait... You mean I've been sitting in the center of the cutout and wasting my time?!
Seriously.
Ride in L1 or L3 and always keep a look out for an "out"if you need one
Stay Safe.
@Yamahog yeah I never ride in L2 but I thought the sensors worked in the center. I'll have to try this tomorrow at the light down the road that never picks me up...
To me riding a motorcycle is like enjoying life from a deeper and different angle. Thanks for your video very interesting 👍
Let’s also be honest about there’s a small part in all of our brains, when we’re doing something and 4 wheelers can’t do. And they’re looking at you like WTF man? And you’re like yeah it’s legal, and I kind of do what I want 🤷♂️
Mhmm - there’s definitely a little bit of that lol
If Texas would allow lane splitting, we would have 25% MCs once drivers realize how much quicker they can get around traffic. Major advantage!
No such thing. Wake-up , the light is green.

good talk. It"s just better on a bike!!! Always enjoyed the first warm days of spring, cruising alongside the river. One gets a feeling of joy, like your flying. I'll ride forever, and love every minute of it.
I'm in cali and splitting traffic is a plus. Just gotta be careful of the idiots . Ride on
Yeah, some people act like babies, getting mad because a motorcycle is getting through traffic.
Ya, definitely gotta watch out for certain drivers. I've had a psycho in a lifted truck rage out trying to run me over cuz he got pissed off about lane splitting. He broke a whole lot more laws than I would have been if splitting wasn't legal.

Oh. Also, what is lane filtering?
@ There's this magical tool, called "Google." If you're feeling exotic, there's also "Bing" and maybe throw in some "Yahoo" too.

Victoria, Australia allows you to park your bike on the footpath (sidewalk, for you Americans). It's really handy in the Melbourne CBD!
Not so much for the blind pedetrians - Wheelchair bound etc..Put yourself in their shoes even just a minute. Real selfish and un-Australian.
Although I am in the UK and some of this is not relevant, this is a really interesting subject. Thanks.
Hey Bro 👋
I'm embarrassed to admit that I honestly didn't know about this, but...

In CA, we spit per the laws. You can only go 15MPH faster than the speed of traffic up to 30MPH max. However, this is heavily abused unfortunately. CA cagers are used to this though and most slide aside to give us space to split. Subscribed!
Thanks man and welcome to the channel

When it comes to lane splitting, one thing I haven't heard anyone talk about is, if it's the middle of Summer, and you're wearing a helmet, and dressed in leather, it can get seriously hot sitting over a motorcycle engine. I mean 'pass out from heat stroke' hot.

Excellent
Lane splitting at 70+ mph is reckless
@speaktruth247 Not when other traffic is doing 60mph+ lol lane splitting by definition is not when traffic is at a slow speed or even stopped. Splitting is when traffic is at higher speeds.

I just wish that they put more about watching out for motorcyclist on the regular driving test. I don’t think they stress that near enough.
Neat video. Here in Florida, i think 2 cycles of the light changing, then you can run the red. The changes in temperature and smells is interesting to say the least.

Man i love coming to a closed road sign , going around it and figuring it out. Driving down sidewalks and alleys. Gotta love it!
You forgot to mention that we are just naturally cooler. 😁
2:40 it’s also legal in Montana
AZ allows lane FILTERING, in specific conditions. But no lane splitting here.
I thought they changed the law for you guys out there?
We lane split all the time here in Northern California. I just personally don’t lane split while on a turn. I’ve seen a rider get sandwiched by to cars
Arizona also have lane filtering laws, I don't know about lane splitting being 50 state legal, now lane filtering like in Arizona I can see getting passed much easier
Cages lean the wrong way lol.
Lane filtering is legal in California, Colorado, Montana, Utah, Arizona, and now Minnesota this summer.
Have parking lot conversations about your bike. Sometimes even the older ladies ask for a ride😊
It takes some education for the cage drivers after being made legal.
Posting this on every comment talking about California lane splitting because so much confusion. It is the LAW that you can lane split up to the posted speed limit. @@heyitsmeshane guidelines yes, but they can cite for unsafe speed for conditions if the officer thinks that you're splitting too fast.

I've been doing it for years.
your right.
We have toll roads in Michigan too. Bikes don't get a free pass.
I just remembered. Riders rooster in North Carolina. It is basically a camp site that only allows motorcycles. Nothing else. No questions asked.
FL Statute 316.209 forbids both lane splitting (passing while other vehicles are in motion) and filtering (passing while other vehicles are stationary). I’m not saying I agree with it; but, it’s what legislators have done to motorcycle riders.
Cool. I didn't know bro rides.
I think WA state uses a magnotometer sensor at lights. Rarely does my bike not trip the light.
When obeying traffic laws is when cars seem to want to hit me. But when I speed or cut an make my own way I have no issues
I went through Glacier National Park on my motorcycle. It's definitely a different experience than a car.
Ahhh… Just more and more reasons why I LOVE being an 8th generation native Californian! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
said no person that actually works and wants to own a house.
@ Hey. I do both! And have a house. 😁
Your state is a joke
I’m a native Californian, and all 3 sons born here; Love the beauty and the unparalleled great M. C. rides but I HATE HATE what the Jr Hi brained Gov. Newsom and legislature has done to RUIN this state in all arenas. We lead America in FOOLISHNESS.
Minnesota has legalized lane splitting, the law goes into effect July 1, 2025.
2 friends got rear ended at stop lights. After these two, I now rarely stop at red lights.
Yes, much safer to run red light…
@ gotta get away from the pack of cars
And you didn't see any car crushed between two semis. stahp lyin. lol
Lane splitting/ filtering has been legalized in 5(?) States now
Lane Filtering and Lane Splitting are two different things.
If you have a dual sport you can go in the ditch!!
Arkansas Red light law is 2 cycles of the light.
