  • Decided to get the bike out and head for a section of river in the town where you cannot park a car anywhere. Went for dropshot gear as it small and can fit in my rucksack - ideal for the bigger Perch that iv'e seen down there....

That was a cracking bream for that little bit of river. On dropshot gear??? Thats was crazy. Well done mate

Yes totally unexpected and on a rubber perch shad too, had no idea a big bream would take that 👌

Almost! On a dropshot minnow shad too - i was surprised to say the least.
Longer net handle needed for next time though and it's game on 😉

Should never be fishing with inadequate gear !

I was dropshotting for Perch - never expected a big bream like that, but now i know 😉

Correct. But also he wasn’t targeting bream. You wouldn’t go carp fishing with a wire trace, on the off chance that you could get bitten off by a sporadic Pike take or always fishing 20lb line in case you bag a carp whilst fishing ultra light for small fish.

@@Dangt500 I was referring to the way too short landing net !

The landing net was too short as it turned out - i hold my hand up to that. It's my spare because a rat ate my usual one, i have another on the way.
This one did reach down to the water and would have been fine for my target but a large fish like that i just couldn't get it in as i needed a few inches more to get an angle.

Unlucky Dan same thing happened to me a few months back with a carp believe it or not. Played it for 20 minutes trying to tire it out but I got to eager and snapped off. Felt sick after. Using a Ned rig on a twaps lake.

It makes you more determined to get it right next time doesn't it?
Getting it wrong gives you some knowledge and you can learn from it - i was gutted here as i got it to the net a few times but i will be back and now i know i need more reach to get over that wall 😉

@@dansreelswheels602 yeah definitely learnt my lesson. I tried that spot for Perch last summer with small crankbaits but didn't have any joy. Might have to have another crack at some point.

I found the bottom very snaggy - lots of dumped junk - so with lures I'd fish them off the bottom or you could lose your favourites 😉
