I actually did my embouchure change by making it gradual. I used my new embouchure 5-10 minutes per day, and gradually increased until I no longer used my old embouchure. It took about six months, but I would love to talk to you about using two embouchures before gradually changing to the new embouchure.

So my own experience of it right now is that I am not only changing my embouchure but the whole position of my jaw moving forward, it's been 3 years now doing that (because of a cut on my upper lip due to non supporting low jaw) I was trying as u say to play gigs and things and changing my embouchure while playing, but this is obviously confusing as fck.. so now that I've worked enough on my muscles mooving my jaw forward enough that its almost in good position (around 1cm more forward that it was before) I am gonna be able to work on embouchure muscles properly as the jaw doesnt have to moove a lot forward anymore. In total this is probably gonna take me 4 or 5 years. You gotta love that tube man! haha... Good luck all on this difficult journey.

Wow! What an ordeal to go through. Is there any way of avoiding having to go through this difficult change?
Is this something a good trumpet teacher could help a beginner student to avoid by finding the best embouchure positions from the get-go? Congratulations for sticking with it!

some people are naturally gifted with a natural perfect embouchure, some are not. some have to go through a dental surgery or braces, some do not. it’s ideal to have a teacher set someone on the right path immediately, but not all of us are blessed with that. it’s a very humbling, ego-killing experience but also an emotionally intensive consumption of time and patience.
