Why can't OP go to the police and report his controlling behavior? She works, so she can hire a private investigator to find out Mark's past. He can't FORCE her to take down photos of her real father.
Police -- and CPS -- prioritize situations involving imminent violent threats and bodily harm. It's like they don't know that emotional abuse is often worse because you can't unhear insults and other verbal manipulations.
