How ridiculous and irresponsible to suggest that Russia threatened nuclear war. No such threat has ever been made.
Putin has said many times that Russia will never be the first to attack with nuclear weapons, but will respond in kind (massively) if attacked.
And that is essentially the same policy as that of the US.
