This anime sure makes the impression its cute and wholesome. It is too. But its also the most brutal and traumatic Anime I've ever watched, I am not kidding. Its ABSOLUTELY NOT for kids.
What makes Made in Abyss so charming is that it is a sense of adventure, seeing something that few have seen on a wild path, the thing is that although it shows amazement and wonder it is not afraid to touch on how dangerous and twisted it can be. It's even debatable whether the story enjoys the discomfort and horror that can await at every danger along the way.
This anime masterfully introduced us to a unique world/civilization, a thrilling story, heavenly music (can't get enough of Transcendence and Hanazeve), and wonderfully though-out characters (protagonists and antagonists) to experience it all through. To this day Made in Abyss stands as one of my favorites, and I especially look forward to you listening to the various soundtracks! Very wholesome... I promise...😇
Made In Abyss is a HUGE TROLL in terms of its openings and endings, even tho the second ED is closer to the truth, it's still far from the absolutely atrocious tragedy and all the traumatic and messed up things that happens in the show. If you show this anime to a kid, you're sure to break him forever, so don't you dare do that xD

It’s among the greatest of all time and has so much variation while still sounding cohesive. Season 1, the in between movie, and season 2 all sound distinct from one another yet perfectly match the story being told. It’s beautiful, dark, somber, exciting, and mind blowing. Not trying to oversell it, but I just can’t sing its praises enough. You’ve also obviously noticed the art style comes off as “childish”. I’ll just say this is intentionally deceptive and used to highlight just how dark this series can get.
If you want to venture into the music of the abyss, a good starter is "Hanezeve Caradhina" or the ending to the movie, called "FOREVER LOST" by MYTH & ROID (who also did ending 2), or if you want your brain to fucking explode and shit your pants, you could go with "JUROIMOH MUTATION"

Can you do a reaction to the song Forever Lost by Myth & Roid, it’s the same band as ending 2 and is the ending song to the made in abyss movie - dawn of the deep soul. It has similar vibes to ending 2 but even better in my opinion.
One has only to listen to the OST of this anime in isolation from the openings, and everything will fall into place. A sense of scale at the level of the Titans' attack. All in this show plays on a serious contrast. Just listen "Transcendance and Hanazeve"
If you want to know the show's tone, I sugest you to watch the opening scene of S2. It wont spoil any plot from S1 or the movie, but you will know how dark and messed up it gets
