This is probably a way to do a low risk experimentation of different concepts as well as giving other directors at Fromsoft some more experience at leading a project. This is good, that way FS doesn't get stale with concepts, doesnt get complacent, but also does something relatively low risk by reusing a lot of older assets.
Interesting point. Leads to some questions though. Yamamura had mostly free reign on AC6. While not a new IP. The game scenario, mechanics, etc. were all brand new or revamped. There was a lot of risk there and it took a lot of trust to hand that off. Ishizaki has been handed something that is much more derivative. Many of the assets including animations and environment are lifted straight from Elden Ring. The game mechanics are new and we'll have to wait to see how well thought out they are. But it seems like, purely from a development investment perspective, a fairly low risk. One wonders if Ishizaki and/or this concept aren't as trusted as Yamamura was. Also gotta wonder about their future projects. Like, I'd say the chances of more AC6, be it DLC or a part 2 of some kind, have gone up substantially with the news of Nightreign. If the plan is yearly releases as they've indicated, and if major asset reuse figures into that plan, then AC6 is prime pickings for that. That sets a new Miyazaki lead project out to at least 2027. But I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't hear anything from him til 2028. With some new or returning low stakes IP taking up the 2027 slot.
@@rainbowkrampus I wouldn’t mind tbh, even if the next few titles are “low risk” I have a feeling it’s still gonna be to fromsoft standard which I’m completely fine with, in fact getting yearly releases from new talented devs while awaiting the big projects from Micheal zaki is honestly a great way to keep consistency while not overworking or making things stale as of course for as much as there are old bosses there’s about 50x more new gameplay mechanics which I’m all for
