  • As Monty Python used to say...... 'and now for something completely different"........
    This is Tamiya's 1/24 VW Beetle which I have built as a special gift for a guy I've been working with for the last 10 years or so as he's leaving the company I work for after 36 years. Like myself, the gentleman concerned is a bit of a VW Beetle fan and we have both owned and driven Beetles since our early 20s, the only difference being that I didn't keep mine whereas he still has this car in his garage. The real car has had a few minor modifications to add a touch of 'Cal-Look' to the standard Beetle which makes it look all the more special. We've worked together on many projects in the last 10 years and I thought it would be a great idea to replicate his car as closely as possible as a personal way of expressing my thanks and appreciation for him being a font of knowledge and advice and an all round top bloke👍
    The model was presented to him on his last day in the office and I think it was greatly appreciated judging from his reaction......to quote......'its the best present I've ever had apart from my wifes'....hahaha
    Pete.....I'm glad you like it and I hope the new venture goes well mate....will catch up soon 👍
    Also a big thank you to the wife in question for 'appropriating' some photos of the real car for me to work from 👍
    For the VW fans out there......the plastic model kit is a '66 model but the real car I tried to replicate has wheel hubs that are not original 5 spoke BRMs but are 4 spoke, 4 stud hubs in a BRM style......

      I've used tissue paper and baby wipes for textiles. While the tissue paper has more delicate texture, the baby wipes are much easier to work with 👍

    I saw the thumbnail and figured you were taking a break from a hectic build schedule and tackling a simpler project? I should have known better! Great attention to detail, turned out amazing! No doubt your friend/co-worker will love it! 👍

    Great job on this build! It's more than clear you owned (or at least been around) classic VW beetles. I also planned on adding the black gasket around the fenders. I like the solution you came up with.
    I get so jealous of other Modelers that not only HAVE a 3D resin printer but, are able to CREATE their own model parts.
    Again, great job.

    Getting the fender welts in was a nice detail. On the VW I had in the '60s they were painted over in the body color but it was a later year and might have been repainted besides (it was used).

    Damn that's good!!
    I've been looking forward to seeing this one and I was not disappointed.
    The wheels look awesome
    Watching you do the print drawing I thought "yep, I got no chance of doing THAT"
    I wish I could mind you because if you can master it as you have the possibilities are endless.
    I'm surprised you didn't have the doors and boot open on it and detail up the engine even more.
    It's still top notch as it is though.
    Thanks for sharing it with you us mate👍

      @CWModelling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks......The doors are moulded with the body so would be a lot of work to make openable. The boot and bonnet do open though and detailing the engine was considered but I ran out of time with this one👍

    Great video and very helpful, I’ve just bought a beetle kit nearly 45 yrs after my last model as a way of distressing after work. Kit arrives today and your video has opened my eyes . I assume that was cotton that you used for the door lines ? Thanks again I look forward to watching more of your videos and have subscribed

    Hi! A bit late on this but could you tell me how you did the engine lid? I know the kit has a different license plate light from 1966 but you modified it to be from 1963.

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi.......the engine lid is from the kit but I removed the original light housing and fashioned a new 'popes nose' made from a piece of plastic sprue and glued it on.....as shown at the start of the video👍
