it's really annoying that they've changed the system to 1-9. because if I'm trying to explain my grades to relatives i could be like "I got 7s and 8s" which is As and A*s, but because there is the option of getting a 9, or an A**, it makes the really good grades of 6, 7, etc, seem much worse than they are. I suppose for the minority of people who will get 9s, it could be useful, but everyone else it just makes our grades seem less than they are
Omg yes, i came back with a 8 in biology and i did fuck all revision so i was sooo proud (biology is really important to me, i will revise for the actual exams this year) but my parents just said why is it not a 9?
The government has not actually decided what they mean, all a 7 means is just good and 9 is great. The schools them selves decided what they would mean, but to the government they literally mean yeah 9 that's good 1 no that's bad.
Padfoot_Moony_Prongs * Don’t mean to sound like a bitch but getting 9s in year 9 means nothing really because we don’t even know what the grade boundaries look like yet...
0:43 - THANK YOU! It's so odd how we forget our grades, I felt marked by them for years - now I need to look at my diary/vlogs from the time - to remember what they are.
The marking scheme is now 1-9 instead of f-a* with 9 being the highest and higher than an A*. Fml. Also no coursework in English anymore, that's great, got 15 poems to memorise and Romeo and Juliet quotes from every character, and Christmas carol quotes, and inspector calls. It's great. It really great (this is the uk too.)
Charlotte V same, I've got the poems, Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde and Inspector Calls. Thankfully I'm only in Year 10 but I have mocks next week and I'm shitting myself
Abbie Harper at least you're not fucking doing great expectations I'd gladly fucking do jakyll and Hyde or Christmas carol ahsjskldld I have the same 15 poems, great expectations, inspector calls and Romeo and Juliet Fuck all of us
If you're in Year 11 right now, then I think it's so stupid that Eng Lang / Lit and Maths are grade 9-1, yet the rest of our subjects are graded A* to U for this year... It's so, so stupid. I'm going to eject myself into the sun before I can even sit my first exam.
Yeah it's a lot stricter nowadays in exams. You're not allowed to bring the lid of the calculator in, you have to take the label off your water bottle, you're not allowed anything written on your hands including drawings and they make the desks so far apart that you can't see the person next to you's work :(
+emmablackery Yes they actually check our hands coming into the exam! It might just be my school being strict but I've heard it being done in other schools as well!
+emmablackery they check your hands! my friend had a bus time written on his hand and was sent to wash it off before the exam started! you also have to put calculator lids on the floor etc
I got told to take off my charity wristband that the school were selling ages ago off during my exams recently, it's so strange since I'm not used to having bare arms!
They have recently changed the GCSE spec last year, I think, so the current year 10s are going to be the first to take the new exams. Now insted of letters it's in numbers A* - 9 A*/A - 9/8 A - 7 A/B -7/6 B - 6 B - 5 C - 5 C - 4 C - 4 D - 3 D - 3 Then there is +, = and - + meant higher level e.g. 5+ high level five = meant middle level e.g. 5= - meant low level e.g. 5- There's is no more higher or foundation (lower) test papers. Everyone does the same test regardless what set you are in. Hope this helped anyone that was wondering :)
Your not allowed calculator backs into the exam and you have to delete all the information over it. You have to take the label off your water bottle and it has to be a clear bottle.
For the Indian version of the GCSE exams, we don't get to use calculators or bring water bottles inside. We aren't even allowed to bring pouches for our stationary or tissues - our pockets have to be empty.
I got D's on all my exams apart from Maths, English and Geography, where I got C's. I ended up scraping into college, didn't get into any of the subjects I wanted to study. I left less than a year later, as I wasn't allowed to go onto the second year of the subject I wanted study. I sat outside college for about half an hour crying after that day. It's now a year later and I've done nothing but wallow in my own sadness. Sorry, just wanted to vent.
The same happened to me, I started college in September and left in January. I did voluntary work for the past couple months and now have been lucky enough to be able to get a job and get back into college doing something else. I'm much happier now though; and my mental health is a lot better though so I just have to hope it lasts. Have faith in yourself, it will get better x
The GCSE's were laughably bad when i took them. The examination board were still figuring out the grade boundaries at the time, I remember Biology in particular was 45% for a C grade... Still failed it...
Cameron Beattie Yeah, i was just talking about ones you have to sit formal exams for.. i done nat 4 english and maths last year, they are my Nat 5's this year
THANK YOU!!! (For the gcse exams mattering point). My little brother nearly didn't bother because he heard too many people in very privileged positions saying "they mean nothing".
+emmablackery They're changing it now tho:/ GCSE's are getting completely renewed - they are literally changing everything. There's not going to be a foundation or a higher anymore. Everyone is taking the same exams.
Plus they have EBACC and progress 8(at least at my school) ebacc is for the higher kids and progress 8 is for the lower kids. in ebacc you only get one option plus you have to do either geography or history and a language. Progress 8 you get two or three options plus you don't have to do geography or history or a language. It's not very fair
EBACC isn't for the lower kids. I did that (didn't get it like, because I got a D in History) and I was in the "thick" side of the year group, who get BTECs shoved on them and only get to take 7 GCSEs and all the smart people take 10 and above.
Also, the rest of her explanation made no sense if you are from America. She said you take them when you are 15-16 and called that middle school, but in the US that would be the second year of high school. And then she said they determine what college you go to and said college was high school. So, now I'm super confused lol. Can some one explain it better?
In the UK we go to Secondary School (some people call it high school) from the ages of 11 to 16. When you're 15/16 you take your GCSEs, and then can go on to college, Sixth Form or do an apprenticeship. You do these things when you're 16-18, though some people may take longer and be about 20 when they finish! College & Sixth Form are basically the same things & they are like your final 2 years of American high school. An apprenticeship is essentially a job.
+Brianna Mehlhaff (Catsrmything) Well I'm from Northern Ireland so things will be a bit different for me than England but here goes: You do GCSEs from 14-16 in secondary school which is 11-18, and in those two years which I believe are the first two of high school (but that's probably wrong sorry) and then after GCSEs you go to college in England (or for me in Northern Ireland continue on in your secondary school) to study A Levels from 16-18 (which might be the final 2 years of high school, may be wrong again). You don't have to study A levels though but it's mostly needed to get into university which is basically the equivalent of college in the US. Sorry if I explained that even worse then Emma but I'm only starting my 1st GCSE year now. If you have any other questions just ask and I'll do my best to answer.
GCSEs are the exams you take at the end of secondary school (age 11-16) when you're in Year 10/11 which is 14-16, so I guess the equivalent to freshman/sophomore years in America? And then after secondary school most people go to college/sixth form, which is age 16-18, to do A Levels or some other kind of qualification which would be the equivalent to junior/senior years in America. I hope that makes sense?
lol the way you talked about English literature made me feel kinda shitty about myself because I love it, its kinda the only subject I'm really good at.
+Charlotte Faulkes honestly it's harder than GCSE! I got an A* in English lit at GCSE and got a c at A level. And I tried super hard as well. Just be ready to put the work in :)
+Charlotte Faulkes if you liked it for gcse, you'll like it for a level. it's exactly the same except more in depth- heavier on analysis and context. its fun tho
I'm in the same year and they've changed the tests to make them a lot harder, a 9 is more like an A** and the test is closer to A level maths than before apparently! Good luck Erin, we're gonna need it!
Also we're not allowed to have the texts for the English literature exams with us. So we have to memorise quotes for 15 poems, a Shakespeare play, a 19th century novel and a 20th century novel. Not to mention English language which has another 2 exams with it.
Already this channel makes me feel like i'm on First Dates on E4 with you and your followers around one table. Sorry that compliment sounds odd. That's just what it feels like
Honestly, after hearing "you don't need your results" from a bunch of youtubers after a while, I was very sick of it. For 2 years, I've had my heart set on taking History. I was one grade under what I needed to take it (C). I would have got an A* if my teacher didn't leave and be replaced by a douchey man who didn't actually care. My heart was broken, and I cried to my head of sixth form. But yet, "my results don't matter". I only want to be an actress, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be successful. GCSE results matter. Not everyone gets lucky enough to gain a large amount of subs on TH-cam, I've been doing TH-cam for 2 years, where's my luck?
1. Yes they still have higher and lower bands (higher & foundation) 2. In exams they take your phones away, make you have transparent water bottles, and pencil cases, and put glasses cases on the floor 3. On my calculator I have a "back" which you slide on the front to protect the actual buttons of the calculator. They make you put that on the floor just in case you have notes. My school recently noticed that people had been putting notes in their pockets and going to the toilet to look at them. I think they caught someone doing it, because halfway through the GCSE term they added a line to the speech they say at the start which was "make sure you don't have any notes in your pockets ..." They're very strict on it now
+221b Amy Don't worry. My teacher had a degree in politics, and didn't have any interest in the specification he was teaching. He tried way too hard to come across as "young, cool and sarcastic" that his teaching was appalling.
+221b Amy I understand! My teacher was amazing, and I was an A*. She got a job working for the educational section in the Tower of London, which was like a dream to her. I wish she hasn't of left.
I find you the most relatable out of all TH-camrs, with your talk about sexuality, and the way you approach others, and your frankness (a word???). As well as your love of writing and music.
Great advice for people getting results at any level. And my two penn'orth: DO NOT PANIC. There are always options beyond just "passing" or "failing". Universities often accept results far below what they originally demand, exams can be retaken, and there's clearing if needs be. Personally, I retook one year of A-levels and one year of University, failed and retook every round of exams since GCSE, and still got a career out of it doing basically exactly what I wanted to. And made some friends that I've had a decade now that I never would have met otherwise. Don't panic. And never give up on what you want to do. There are ways.
iMacs are pretty decent computers. Yes, they aren't amazing for gaming, but if you knew any such thing about computers, they you'd know that they aren't that bad.
I know, I was just shitposting. Macs all use Intel stuff now anyway. They're basically PCs but you have to get components for them that are verified by Apple which cost three times as much. Just buy (or preferably build) a PC and put OSX on it.
egh hackintoshes in my experience are unstable and there's never a 100% guarantee a mac os app will recognise PC hardware as acceptable etc. i just like using final cut pro, man
Same. The SATs suck, but at least it's only 1 exam for the year (at least it was for me...I graduated long before the standardized test madness created by No Child Left Behind).
right lol I took the Sat and didn't do to well but I took the act and got a overall of a 17 not too good but I did get into a college that I did want to go to
I took the SATs about two times and got about a 1600 both times, then I took the ACT and I got a 23, I never submitted it anywhere I just took it to see what I would get. But in all honesty, the SAT does not in anyway show others how you are as a student, it just measures how well you can take a test.
I know people who complain when they get A*s. They're upset that they got 99% instead of 100% and get really over-dramatic about it. Meanwhile, their friends are perfectly happy with their Cs and Ds.
Click Nixon My school taught us that a C was a fail and anything below an A* was worth pretty much nothing. Anyone estimated to get a C or below in their exams was dropped from their course almost immediately. League tables were always their number one priority.
Listen, my guy. I'm fourteen and I hit my peak eight years ago. I'm already not delighted with no longer being a "prodigy;" I'm sure not going to be happy with getting a B on a report card.
Alanna R. Boo fucking hoo. How horrible it must be for you to be a bit above average, instead of really above average. Let me whip out the violins for you...
I'm so glad you haven't downplayed GCSE results, unlike everyone I've met, I feel like I should be happy with a B in Chemistry but I needed an A to take it for A level so I've been struggling more with self-confidence than usual since that. The video was what I needed x
That's incredible - well done you! And for achieving such brilliant grades whilst going through what must have been an incredibly tough time for you. Sincere congratulations. Enjoy college - it's amazing! xxx
+TheConfuzzledCat sorry, you generally have to go to school (see BoyinaBand's video about how school isn't actually mandatory) until you're 16, but a lot of people stay until they're 18 so that they can get certain grades to get into uni. If you leave when you are 16 there are a few routes. 1. Get an apprenticeship, 2. Go into a tech 3. Get a job in the supermarket and stay there for the rest of your life and regret your decisions, 4. Or become a really rich entrepreneur. Before you leave you have to do GCSEs which are a set of exams, and then if you stay on for a following 2 years you do 3-4 A Levels which get you into university.
Finally someone who realises the importance of exams. Not everybody has the luck as all these successful people who don't need their GCSE's/ A Levels. It gives people false hope and before they know it they've messed up their life.
Don't worry about it seriously, if you put enough effort and revise properly that suits you you have a fair chance at doing decent! don't think negatively because how can you ecpect to do well if you set out to do badly! Think positive! Hope this was helpful to you, have a good day! =D P.S I'm starting my GCSE's when I go back next week! :\
Honesty if you work your hardest (that sounds so patronising IM SORRY) you will be fine, I'm going into year 11 and in all my mocks I've done pretty good for me anyway, just make sure you revise and take lots of notes.
Dont worry about it, i finished my GCSE's this year and tbh it wasnt as bad as i was expecting it to be. As long as you revise little but often you will be fine.
My advice to you would be to relax and just try to enjoy everything you do, avoid unnecessary stress and study and hour every 2 days of whatever subject you feel you're lagging behind on (that's not strict, do as much revision as you feel you need but don't overload yourself), it's not an easy two years but there are ways of making it easier.
Vloggery I guess you got taught about telescopes then... I got taught about glasses. But one of them (can't remember which) would make the telescope show things as further away rather than closer so telescopes wouldn't really be a good way of teaching it...
Doing GCSEs this year (year 10) I'm losing my shit. I need to pass science for the job I want and omg. Please tell me GCSEs are not as hard as they said they are.
+Ipod Touch Don't stress, in year 9 I was bottom of my class and was one of the students that they considered moving down a set. I did triple science and got A*-A grades. Looking at my profile I look dumb af with a dog filter, if I could do it you can do it! 😅
It's so interesting hearing TH-camrs from other countries talk about their experiences with their education system! I am from Canada and the most we have are several major math exams and literature exams.
FINALLY! I'm getting tired of TH-camrs saying that exams are not that important in the end. Which is way different than saying they're not everything. Not everyone can get offers and chances through TH-cam. Some people do have to study. I'm just glad someone finally acknowledges that.
Some of the girls in our school write the answers on the top of their thighs under their skirt, the during the exam they pretend to pull up their tights and when they're pulled tight you can see through them to read the answers. No one ever gets caught. (And you're not allowed to have a cover on your calculator now)
Also my friend takes media studies and had to do a magazine (like a full one) and she asked me to model for her so. I hope I'm not the reason she fails!
But some graphic calculators can store notes on them anyway and they don't make you clear them before exams. I think some of them can connect to the internet too.
+Nick Louis really? Our exam papers just say we're allowed a 'graphics calculator' and invigilators have no idea what they are half the time so, even if someone brings in an illegal brand (although tbf I don't think anyone did) it won't be checked. But a basic function of the calculator is to store equations so they can't really prohibit it
About the Earphone thing, well at my school they take away your phones and everything. They make you take the label off your water bottle, you aren't allowed anything on your hand etc. And you can't look to someone else's since the tables are so far and if you are seen, or even expected, you fail. So good luck cheating, but seriously don't cheat.
I'm (supposed to be) smart ish so people ask me for answers and stuff across the classroom. And like I'm in 8th grade now, and I've just had so much practice cheating (giving answers, not taking them) that I'm like really good at it?? And for some reason I'm really proud of that?? And anyways like (i counted) and in the math exam 17 people asked me for the answers. And yeah now I'm trailing off and idk why i started saying this but yeahh
Same but as I'm in an academy school, I started my GCSE course last year lol. I'm less stressed cuz I chose subjects that I enjoyed and I am surprisingly good at - except German. That can go fuck off and die I can't do it 😂😂😂
I got 2 B's, one D, and the rest were C's. I got told by family many times that my GCSE's didn't matter, which never really made sense to me coming from a family of self employed people. Details. Thankfully I got what I needed to get onto the A level courses that I wanted to, but I wouldn't have been able to do any sciences with the results I got. So yay for not really liking science. Doing English Language and lit at A level now, as well as Law Btec. Reading 1984 atm for coursework, and our language coursework is writing two short stories. Some of the things you said in this video really resonated with me. Loving this new channel ^_^
I don't know if there's higher or lower levels of GCSEs... But in all the sciences there are advanced levels which is an extra hour weekly. Also in math there's foundation which is a lower level math class. Although I live in Luxembourg... So it may be different in the Uk. Also they check everything before exams these days. In some exam rooms you can't even bring a pencil case. Just a pen a pencil and a water bottle with the tag ripped off.
There is lower levels, of English, but I think not all exam boards have it; since we do Edexcel, but those doing lower levels, did the lower level for Cambridge.
Thank you for this! I am a firm believer that no matter how many times you say exams aren't important they always were to me at the time! Coincidence, I got a A in maths GCSE, did it for AS, got a D and dropped it too. I loved school in my weird I love learning way , maybe that's why I'm going back to train to be a primary school teacher!
Thank you for saying that exams are important. You're the first TH-camr I've seen say this. Even having down that you completed high school can make a difference on your chances of getting a job today. I've gone back to high school to get my year 11 ATAR after 6 years. In exams, you're not allowed to wear hats or beanies because of people doing the earphone trick, any water bottles you have must be clear without the label on it and you're not allowed a pencil case if it isn't clear.
I think student's at GCSE level are too focused at doing well at all the subjects you have tests for, like what 12? Where in reality you only need 5 A*-C's depending on what your chosen collage/A-Levels are asking for. Like, for me, i didn't try that hard and got 5 C's and 1 A* in maths, because i knew i only needed 5 C's for where i wanted to go. Yeah i could have tried to excel in all subjects but i would have just stretched myself too thin and probably not got what i needed. Same goes for A-Levels, For uni i needed ABB to do Mathematics, so instead of revising/ trying my hardest at 4 subjects i just immediately dropped one and focused on 3 instead. Less workload and more time spent on each subject. Also a lot less stress. Young people have the world on their shoulders nowadays.
+tom thornbery I needed 8 As out of 11 subjects to do the A levels I wanted to do so it depends on what you want to do. Also if GCSE students aren't focused on doing well, what should they be focused on? I agree that they only need to get to the next stage but it's good to have them to fall back on.
Don't you need A*/A at GCSE for Oxbridge though? I'm pretty sure they take GCSEs into account. I know my uni takes some GCSEs into account depending on course, I needed to have a certain grade in Maths for mine. Yeah the 5A*-C is a good guideline, but I needed 7A*-C + a B in English and a C in maths for sixth form. I hated the pressure of GCSEs though, I nearly had a nervous breakdown because I had to know so much to meet what (I thought) were everyones expectations of me. It does seem stupid in retrospect but at the time, they were my everything, they were my ticket out of a shithole of a school.
I am starting Year 11 next week and literally the only thing I'm crapping my self at is the Revision, but I am determined to do well so that I have a fair chance at doing the Course I wanna do in College!
Here's some advice for revision: Start revising a good 2-3 months before the exams start (I started during the February half term which gave me plenty of time and I had 20 written exams to study for). Start off with the topics that you studied in year 10, because you'd have forgotten more from those than the ones you did more recently. Then move on to the ones you learned at the beginning of year 11, and so on. If you're lucky you'll get 2-3 days in between exams, so spend those days off revising for the exam that's coming up next (even if you have two exams on the same day), and when that's out of the way, revise for the next one. Don't take days off. Of course take breaks when you feel like you need to, but don't waste a precious day on distractions; remove them if necessary. And don't make the breaks too long as well. I revised maybe 4 times a day, each time lasting 1-2 hours and I found that it was enough. This will be easier if you get study leave, but still can be done even if you don't. Honestly, the revision isn't the worst part of exams, in fact I found it was the easiest. You just need to find a good revision method that works best for you (and trust me there are many). By the way, the grades you get on mock tests or small end-of-topic tests you may do don't necessarily reflect on the results you'll get in the final exams, but that doesn't mean you can slack off. even if you do well on those class tests, don't think you can just not do any work for the rest of the year thinking you'll get the same grade in the real thing. Work all the year through, and do try your hardest, so if your exam results do come back lower than you expected (which, hopefully, they won't) at least you'll know that you tried your hardest, and in my opinion that matters more than the results themselves. However, this is only my advice, I'm not telling you to directly do this as it may not work for you, this is just what I found best from experiencing it myself. Sorry for the long reply. Good luck in your exams next year. I hope you do well.
Sheisun Thank you so much for the advise and taking the time in ensuring I have a great Revision plan even though I'm a complete stranger, I will definatly take this on board, although I have a rough plan on how I'll revise, I'll take things from this as well as it's from someone who has gone through it already! Once again, thank you for the helpful advise ! P.S. no need to say sorry for the reply being long, I found it all very educational!
Also don't get swayed by friends telling you it doesnt matter because I revised alot for GCSEs and had a few people telling me to stop etc. when i wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary revision wise and i wasnt putting too much stress on myself etc. I ended up getting 8 A*s and 2 A's which was joint highest in my year so revise as much as you think necessary because it will pay off and you will feel so much better for it i swear i did. Good luck for next year :)
+Rebecca Garcia-miller Thanks for the advise but it doesn't really concern me as I have literally no friends, in fact I'm possibly one of the most disliked person in my year just because I'm truthful and don't hold back any feelings what so ever, oh well at least in college in a years time I'll have a fresh start =D P.S. Congrats on the Grades you got you must be very proud of yourself and thank you for wishing me Good Luck, I hope everything turns out right for you in the future! =P
+alex thorne honestly I bet that's the answer half the time, I hate how they make you try to read into all the symbolism of literally EVERYTHING in books
alex thorne Well, some interpretations are far more reasonable than others. Here's an example that I'm sure you'll be at least somewhat familiar with: When Romeo and Juliet first meet, their lines form a perfect Shakespearean sonnet. Could Shakespeare have written it this way by accident? Sure, but probably not. Could Shakespeare have written it this way just because it sounds nice? Sure, but, again, probably not. So what does it mean? By far, the most likely interpretation is that this scene means to convey that their hearts beat as one, basically. Sonnets are written in iambs, which are just an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable (a good example is John Keats' last will and testament, "My chest of books divide among my friends.") This meter mimics a heartbeat, in a way (if that doesn't make sense, try tapping out the sentence I used as an example before. Sounds like a heartbeat, right?). This scene is usually used as evidence for Romeo and Juliet being genuinely in love, not just horny. There are different interpretations, probably, though I can't think of any. But this is definitely the most likely one, and that's why your English teacher tells you about it.
Your reminiscing about going from E to A* in Physics reminds me of how I progressed in Maths :) I found maths quite hard and was probably on track for a C grade, but over the Christmas holidays before GCSE year, I got huge motivation to go through all my maths exercise books and the textbook and revise every single problem and solution in the curriculum. I got an A*. Revision and a good teacher make all the difference!! P.S. I cheated in my Spanish written exam BUT IT LITERALLY DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE I HAVE NOT USED THAT GRADE SINCE AND I HAD NO INTEREST IN THAT SUBJECT AND IT'S NOT EVEN ON MY CV! Omg I'd forgotten the word 'boffin' hahah - yeah that was still around when I was at school and I finished in 2012
also we aren't allowed the covers off of calculators, no labels on water bottles, only clear pencil cases. i would have written answers on my coloured pencils fam.
Lily Rivers I did Edexcel this year, there was no study of other religion and it was all different Christian views of things. Apparantly, as I'm gay I'm not allowed to have sex according to anyone, but hey isn't it nice that the liberal protestants with let me marry? Yeah, basically it's just regurgitating stuff from the textbook. I would have loved to do Islam and Judaism too, but hey, god forbid we learn some understanding of the world we live in.
Seconded. They did the whole anti-gay spiel with you too? Glad to know that's still there at least /sarcasm. We had a priest come in and talk about it, was NOT fun. Other schools do different papers though, I remember some friends doing stuff with genesis while we had to learn about marriage and other stupid rites. Remember BJCC (bible, jesus, catechism, creed!) always ahah I think I did edexcel too, is that the one with the 4 different types of questions and there were 4 modules on the paper which was 2 hours? Those damn C questions T_T I distinctly remember not knowing what the creed was until I had to talk about it in y10 or something.
Lily Rivers yep bloody c-types. 4 PEEL paragraphs etc. xD it was horrid. I got panic attacks in mass bc the priest kept talking about death. i don't like the catholic church much, to be honest. they don't have a good track record in history either.
I'm getting so stressed because off the new GCSE because I'm so Stupid the only good grades I'm predicted is in art and English and everything else is 1 or 2 I really struggle to reamber stuff and I'm so scared that I may not get into the collage course becaue my marks are two low and I revise for 2 hours every night it has ended up with me having panic attacks becaue all my friends are predicted 8 and 7 and stuck in this ditch. I COULD NOT READ UNTIL I WAS IN YEAR 7!!! it's just stupid too put us under so much stress.
I'm 23 years old now BUT BACK IN MY DAY...When i got my GCSE's I didn't get the grades I wanted, I think my highest mark was one B (in art). This lead me into not being able to take what I wanted in College. Didn't do that brilliant at College either,I was told I'd never become a Graphic Designer and I wanted to for soooo long, at this point I didn't have any motivation to even try to get into uni. I didn't give up and took an apprenticeship. 2 years later and I'm still working for a TV company. Don't give up on what you want, there's a lot you can do.
I'm from America and still fascinated by your description of these tests. We have nothing like this. Our testing is so basic in comparison its so weird. This is why so many in this country can't answer simple question.
The GCSE got changed for my year :(( it's so much harder now especially English, our teachers are saying that if they did the gcse they prolly wouldn't pass, I hate life
Sanna Shah you guys are just so unlucky I was in the last year of old style exams, and the new maths papers would be a better reflection of my talent. I did do GCSE further maths and got an A* with distinction. But seriously, if you're doing your GCSEs in Summer 2017, best of luck. You're going to need it....
I love how you dropped maths at AS lvl because of binomial expansion and I’m currently loving learning about binomial expansion at 15 in year 10. Oh how times has changed.
+ekendi Okay XD, basically to put in extreme short; Most British schools teach RE in using Christianity and Islam which I have no problem with just that they are both religions that are western and not a single one eastern. My problem with it, isn't the ethics and the law that is taught as part of RE but what is taught about the religions. For example, pretty much most of the bible and Qu'ran (soz if wrong spelling) is taught eventually but the only parts needed to be taught as part of exam board, so all the different words for God, what jesus did and miracles same with Islam but not much on present day agenda. They do talk about present day compared to hos it was in the past, such as with morals of religions, but I mean they do not talk about how and when Christianity was Involved in which civilizations, what wars the kkk and more. same with Islam as the now terrorist groups and etc. it's what is taught and isn't with the way it has being prioritised that annoys me, which then leave many to the millions at most ignorant about such events. That's pretty much the shorts of it there's more such as with the way exams and questions are done as well. so ya enjoy XD.
AhhhhhGGGGHH I’ve got them next year but this is super interesting! I wish more british youtubers talked about this. In my school I have to take all sciences + one language + one humanity + 3 more random ones which most schools in my area don’t do. It’s..it’s great
Aw, I love binomial expansion! Is such a cool property of maths and a great start to even cooler maths. Mitosis is a type of cell division where the two daughter cells have the same amount of DNA as the mother cell. The mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell :-P Also GCSE sounds like a tough time. In Brazil, where I live, you have to take ENEM after high school to get to a federal college (free and often better than private colleges) and it tests resistance and quick thinking as much as it does knowledge. 180 multiple choice questions and an essay about a surprise subject in two afternoons is a lot!
Our ICT teacher got caught watching porn. In a classroom. In front of year 7's. Safe to say, he didn't work at that school for much longer. Also we had another picture who was so generous with her marking - she gave me an A for a logo that would have actually been given a D. Good job, ICT teachers.
Emma, I got an A at maths GCSE, could have gotten an A* if I tried a bit harder, took maths and further maths AS levels, because maths is my best subject. I still can't read a clock, I have to wear a digital watch or look at my phone if I want to tell the time. Binomial expansion? Piss easy, I can do that in my sleep. Clocks? Nope, I can't do that.
I did a lot better than I expected so that was great news! Thankyou fir making an honest video, it is too easy for youtubers to say 'it doesn't matter' when it really does. Btw there is still tiers in some GSCEs like maths and English. also keep up this channel it's great!!!
We don't have Higher A and B GCSE's anymore, and the grades are also changing. Instead of the normal A's, B's and C's the grades are changing to 9 to 1. 9 being the highest (A*) and 1 being the lowest. Also there are no ways to cheat now, they check EVERYTHING 😭I tried the cheat in my mock exams but got found out 😂
Bumfluff Mckenzie ugh same 😑I can't see a reason to change them. It just confuses everyone (even our teachers 😂) and now higher grades are even harder to get 😒
Don't worry about _what_ you pick, that usually doesn't matter. All you need to worry about it getting 5 A*-Cs (and 3 of them will be English Lit, Lang and Maths - so pick 2 you really love & are good at! The others seriously don't matter)
There is no course work anymore to support us, none of the work we do from year 9 to our GCSEs matter. The only subject I am doing course work on is ICT and we finished months ago, nothing matters and we now have two mocks before the GCSEs. As well as that the grading system changed so instead of A*, A it is now 9, 8, 7 with a 9 being an A** and to pass we have to have a 5 which is a high C low B. It has become harder and the colleges as well as sixth form now has entry requirements of 7 and 6s which is A and B. No offence Emma but the year 11 students of 2018 is absolutely fucked, we had a whole year without a fucking syllabus therefore out of three years we only had two and this GCSE is meant to be harder. If you know somebody sitting their GCSEs in 2018 may-june wish them all the fucking luck and help them, we fucking need it.
I'm in the same situation, living on 4-5 hrs sleep a night, low commitment levels, has a particular issue that involves me having panic attacks, somehow in a grammar school and am now expected to get 7s to get back into college, or my just as strict backup school as well, otherwise I'll end up at a local school which I hate. The exam standards and mark schemes are unreasonable, terrifying and genuinely made me cry once. I really need advice at this point otherwise I'm going to end up a failure by September. Sorry for the rant, I hope you do well but if you have any tips I'd appreciate it :)
it is soo interesting to hear what other countries or even schools teach and how they differ from the classes that i had. for example in my school (i live in germany btw) we did not have an option for creative writing (maybe question three on the exams concerning languages but that is just one tiny little thing) or the differences when it comes to religion/moral class-stuff. i was on a catholic private school (which was great as i grew up to be an agnostic atheist from age 13 on) and religion was mandatory until you graduated. and it was not even in a free, discussion-ish way..even though the young teacher tried to chill a bit but he still had guidelines.. aand i don't really have any stories about my GCSEs because there is no german aquivalent to it :D but i will join in on the discussion in the comments when you make a video about your a-levels
***** Well, I think views are a better indicator for the size of a TH-camrs audience than subs. Why care about her sub count when you can see her view count.
Mitosis is the process of a cell 'duplicating' kind of, well splitting into two to make a new cell. Mitochondria is where respiration happens in animal cells chlorophyll is just a green pigment that absorbs light and provides energy for photosynthesis (how a plant makes food) I just finished doing biology and moved onto chemistry
Legit in my art class last year my teacher was for some reason obsessed with buildings. We had to do drawings at the start of every single class and half of them were buildings. I understand your pain
i got Cs across the board aside from Catering, Engineering and Physics, of which i got a B, then i went on to do A level classes at sixth form and got two Us, an E and a D, so i'm now at art college and am going to join the Navy as an engineer, since i'm not the best at art, and i like the sea, so yep. (oh yeah, in our exams we had to put our calculator lids under our desks, no electronics allowed, and the exam boards kept screwing us over)
I'm really glad that I only have 4 exams at the end of my high school career in Germany. The bad thing is that everything you achieve or don't achieve in one class still matters when you're graduating. You get points (0-15) for EVERYTHING you do which get added up and determine your grade in the end. The 4 exams you have at the end count 5 times as much as regular exams though so you have a good chance of balancing out a bad grade.
Hey I like that it's an option to hide it. Fucking stats shouldn't matter like they do. It's so dumb. I started talking about one of the youtubers I watched and someone said. Ohh they don't like have a million subscribers, they're obviously bad. And I may or may not have told them to kindly GO FUCK THEMSELVES CAUSE THAT SHIT DOESNT MATTER. Whilst flailing quite a lot. But shshhhhshhh.
I cheated so bad. I literally wrote tiny revision booklets for my essay based exams, took them into the exam and would just look through them if I needed a quote XD
+James Michaels the fact that I did it? Anyone can cheat. If you're too shit for a job you won't get it or you'll get fired, your results from school shouldn't effect that. And medical school is the shit so I'm a big fan of cheating ☺️
+James Michaels how? Dude I'm an obstetrician, you think someone is gonna ask me what year the bay of pigs took place and tell me I need to analyse a quotation from Jekyll and Hyde? I got my job because I'm good at it, and I had the sense to not let my shitty grade in RE keep me from saving lives
Teachers are important. I remember almost failing History, but a year earlier when I was in another school with another teacher I was one of the best in my class in History.
it's really annoying that they've changed the system to 1-9. because if I'm trying to explain my grades to relatives i could be like "I got 7s and 8s" which is As and A*s, but because there is the option of getting a 9, or an A**, it makes the really good grades of 6, 7, etc, seem much worse than they are. I suppose for the minority of people who will get 9s, it could be useful, but everyone else it just makes our grades seem less than they are
Omg yes, i came back with a 8 in biology and i did fuck all revision so i was sooo proud (biology is really important to me, i will revise for the actual exams this year) but my parents just said why is it not a 9?
sophie yeah my GCSEs are expected to be 8, 7 and 6 (I’m math bc I’m terrible) but my parents don’t understand the grading system
Over here it's out of 100, wich I think is better than letters because it's way more precise and representative
RIGHT?! and honestly they meant so much to me at the time but i had to write them down to make this video!
"I can't do long division", I did 2 years of maths at college, I don't know either...
I got a b though...
I worked it out, and I was so damn happy
+Harriet Griffiths holy shit same last name, high five!
Sam Griffiths woo!
+Harriet Griffiths xD
The marking scheme is now 1-9 instead of f-a* with 9 being the highest and higher than an A*. Fml. Also no coursework in English anymore, that's great, got 15 poems to memorise and Romeo and Juliet quotes from every character, and Christmas carol quotes, and inspector calls. It's great. It really great (this is the uk too.)
Charlotte V Yeah same i got 15 poems, Romeo and Juliet, Inspector Calls and Jekyll and Hyde
Charlotte V same, I've got the poems, Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde and Inspector Calls. Thankfully I'm only in Year 10 but I have mocks next week and I'm shitting myself
Abbie Harper at least you're not fucking doing great expectations I'd gladly fucking do jakyll and Hyde or Christmas carol ahsjskldld
I have the same 15 poems, great expectations, inspector calls and Romeo and Juliet
Fuck all of us
Charlotte V if you do igcse, which I do under the grades a* to f it's very similar
Charlotte V My teacher had informed my class that U is a failure
they've fucked up gcse's it's 1-9 now. may i implode now
May's Ramblings You may.
Thak you
i would say 1 is the best but no 9 is ... and why do we need A** ?? Before the change i never heard of an A** 😂
If you're in Year 11 right now, then I think it's so stupid that Eng Lang / Lit and Maths are grade 9-1, yet the rest of our subjects are graded A* to U for this year... It's so, so stupid. I'm going to eject myself into the sun before I can even sit my first exam.
May Pickles ikr
Yeah it's a lot stricter nowadays in exams. You're not allowed to bring the lid of the calculator in, you have to take the label off your water bottle, you're not allowed anything written on your hands including drawings and they make the desks so far apart that you can't see the person next to you's work :(
the water bottle thing was around when i went to school too! do they check your hands now!? like it was never ALLOWED, they just never checked!
They're that strict in the US for the big exams like ACT when they're set up right.
ahh, GCSEs. lulling students into a false sense of security before they hit A-Levels
ahh, GCSEs, a load of information you will most likely never use in your later life
+Milly Moo lmao accurate, I'm going to uni in September and haven't looked back since :')
+Tia B-Cooper good luck!!
+Milly Moo thank you internet stranger!!
I'm starting GCSEs ahh help if you work hard are they ok or really hard? Also GOOD LUCK in your course i hope you enjoy it!!
Role model qualities 11/10
She actually has them tho
They have recently changed the GCSE spec last year, I think, so the current year 10s are going to be the first to take the new exams. Now insted of letters it's in numbers
A* - 9
A*/A - 9/8
A - 7
A/B -7/6
B - 6
B - 5
C - 5
C - 4
C - 4
D - 3
D - 3
Then there is +, = and -
+ meant higher level e.g. 5+ high level five
= meant middle level e.g. 5=
- meant low level e.g. 5-
There's is no more higher or foundation (lower) test papers.
@@irnistarfirix we have to have a clear pencil case & the calculator isn't for every paper
@@irnistarfirix If you're talkin bout boards, we're allowed to get a calculator to every exam right??
Only if you're state if your cbse it's all up to your brain
Have faith in yourself, it will get better x
guess you fucked up then
Altrade Cull Just make sure you put effort in, unlike I did. I was an idiot 16 year old, who hadn't fully developed mentally.
Ecliptic Designs no shit lol
Redo your GCSEs in college or you'll regret it
The GCSE's were laughably bad when i took them. The examination board were still figuring out the grade boundaries at the time, I remember Biology in particular was 45% for a C grade...
Still failed it...
The education system is so fucked up man... except in Finland, those people know how to do their shit.
Heyflaviaahey I should have moved to Finland a long time ago lmao
Heyflaviaahey well aren't i lucky
I'm Scottish and to all non-Brits I just wanted to say that we have a completely different system and exams
Cameron Beattie National 5, higher and advanced higher... i'm doing 3 highers and 2 national 5's this year... kill me
Alison Walker national 4s too. I'm going into S4 and all my subjects are recommended N5-not looking forward to it
Cameron Beattie Yeah, i was just talking about ones you have to sit formal exams for.. i done nat 4 english and maths last year, they are my Nat 5's this year
I'm doing all N5's soon, my friend passed all Advanced Highers with an A band one. Physics, English, Music, Chemistry, Maths and Biology
Alasdair Steven Good on them. I'm struggling with nat 5 maths and higher music 😂😂
THANK YOU!!! (For the gcse exams mattering point). My little brother nearly didn't bother because he heard too many people in very privileged positions saying "they mean nothing".
They still do have higher and lower tier exams, can confirm as I took my exams this year. They're called "foundation" and "higher"
yeah looking back they were called that in my time too. just forgot the term!
I didn't say EBACC was for the lowet kids I said they were for the higher kids
please please make the next video on Vloggery about your a-levels
won't be the next one but i'll make it in the future, definitely!
+emmablackery loving the new channel logo, especially on your T-shirts
+emmablackery I'm going into year ten and it's gonna be constant coursework, very stressful
+Nightcore Extra don't stress it too much 😊 they practically hand you the coursework on a silver platter
Uh, silly American here. What are A-Levels?
"If your not from America", I think you mean the UK Emma!
+Brianna Mehlhaff (Catsrmything) Well I'm from Northern Ireland so things will be a bit different for me than England but here goes:
You do GCSEs from 14-16 in secondary school which is 11-18, and in those two years which I believe are the first two of high school (but that's probably wrong sorry) and then after GCSEs you go to college in England (or for me in Northern Ireland continue on in your secondary school) to study A Levels from 16-18 (which might be the final 2 years of high school, may be wrong again). You don't have to study A levels though but it's mostly needed to get into university which is basically the equivalent of college in the US. Sorry if I explained that even worse then Emma but I'm only starting my 1st GCSE year now. If you have any other questions just ask and I'll do my best to answer.
+Brianna Mehlhaff (Catsrmything) I'm from America but I know in the UK they call high school college, and the ages probably differ a little bit
I hope that makes sense?
lol the way you talked about English literature made me feel kinda shitty about myself because I love it, its kinda the only subject I'm really good at.
same, i even took it as an a level
I'm starting it for A-Level on Monday. Crap.
+Charlotte Faulkes honestly it's harder than GCSE! I got an A* in English lit at GCSE and got a c at A level. And I tried super hard as well. Just be ready to put the work in :)
+Jodi-Leigh Barrett oh crap here we go
+Charlotte Faulkes if you liked it for gcse, you'll like it for a level. it's exactly the same except more in depth- heavier on analysis and context. its fun tho
Thankfully my exams aren't for another year yet, although in maths and English I do have to sit the new 1-9 exams which will be much harder.
Why would they be harder???
I'm in the same year and they've changed the tests to make them a lot harder, a 9 is more like an A** and the test is closer to A level maths than before apparently! Good luck Erin, we're gonna need it!
Also we're not allowed to have the texts for the English literature exams with us. So we have to memorise quotes for 15 poems, a Shakespeare play, a 19th century novel and a 20th century novel. Not to mention English language which has another 2 exams with it.
You're doing a 20th century novel? We're doing another play! And don't forget the unseen poetry as well! As if it couldn't get any worse 😰
I'm doing Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Macbeth, Lord of the Flies and Power and Conflict poetry cluster. Gotta love AQA
I got my results last Thursday and I was super happy with them (4 A*'s, 4 A's and 3 B's) you're great Emma ly ❤
(I was the same w English too btw :'))
+MusicMagic thank you so much!
thats incedible omg well done!!
Franky Morgan thank youuuu!
Omg well done
Already this channel makes me feel like i'm on First Dates on E4 with you and your followers around one table. Sorry that compliment sounds odd. That's just what it feels like
the irony that I failed in my science is that now I use logical responses to retaliate back at holier than thou religious optimists
I think they caught someone doing it, because halfway through the GCSE term they added a line to the speech they say at the start which was "make sure you don't have any notes in your pockets ..." They're very strict on it now
Im going into year 11 in September and I'm also getting a new history teacher. I'm terrified this is gonna happen to me
+221b Amy Don't worry. My teacher had a degree in politics, and didn't have any interest in the specification he was teaching. He tried way too hard to come across as "young, cool and sarcastic" that his teaching was appalling.
its just always upsetting loosing such a good teacher
"I do know how computers work..." ... uses an iMac. LOL.
iMacs are pretty decent computers.
+viperhalberd respect and love the Emma k
Oh I do :) My love for Emma is almost unhealthy
egh hackintoshes in my experience are unstable and there's never a 100% guarantee a mac os app will recognise PC hardware as acceptable etc. i just like using final cut pro, man
This is the only time I've ever been thankful that I'm in the American Education System
Same. The SATs suck, but at least it's only 1 exam for the year (at least it was for me...I graduated long before the standardized test madness created by No Child Left Behind).
i had 22 gcse exams omg
+Sofia H oh my when I did my GCSEs I had 24 exams:((((( but at least at AS I had 11.... And then 7 at A2 ugh
right lol I took the Sat and didn't do to well but I took the act and got a overall of a 17 not too good but I did get into a college that I did want to go to
I took the SATs about two times and got about a 1600 both times, then I took the ACT and I got a 23, I never submitted it anywhere I just took it to see what I would get. But in all honesty, the SAT does not in anyway show others how you are as a student, it just measures how well you can take a test.
It's not cheating. It's organized stratagem. Shhh 😬😁😎😏
Strategy*
Cheating implies an unfair advantage, if everyone has a phone, it isn't unfair, so it isn't cheating
+TheGreyGuy ! is having a genetic predisposition to be more intelligent not an unfair advantage?
+Anne actually Cheating also requires an outside influence whereas natural intelligence is an inside influence
Honestly it drives me up the wall when people complain about getting Bs and As. They're above fucking average, lmao.
I know people who complain when they get A*s. They're upset that they got 99% instead of 100% and get really over-dramatic about it. Meanwhile, their friends are perfectly happy with their Cs and Ds.
It's perfectionism instilled into them by this joke of an education system actually...
I got mine on Monday and got A*AAABBBB despite the fact I lost my mum this year. Looking forward to starting college!
Well done! :)
That's incredible - well done you! And for achieving such brilliant grades whilst going through what must have been an incredibly tough time for you. Sincere congratulations. Enjoy college - it's amazing! xxx
Haha, 15/16 is not middle school, that's actually halfway through high school... but still, good video. As are all of them.
That's the end of British high school (secondary school)
I know, but she said "middle school" and I figured she was trying to appeal/care for the American system.
+Jamie Leggett (Jazer) actually 18 is the end of school in the uk, it's just you can drop out and join a tech or get an apprenticeship at 16
Suddenly, I feel like your system is ten times as complicated as our stupid system,
+TheConfuzzledCat sorry, you generally have to go to school (see BoyinaBand's video about how school isn't actually mandatory) until you're 16, but a lot of people stay until they're 18 so that they can get certain grades to get into uni.
Haha, there isn't coursework in the new style GCSES, we're all fucked. Thanks government
aoafruit Yeah, it’s stupid! I feel so sorry for people with test anxiety.
That sounds so much easier I hated coursework
Finally someone who realises the importance of exams. Not everybody has the luck as all these successful people who don't need their GCSE's/ A Levels. It gives people false hope and before they know it they've messed up their life.
The chemistry stuff you were talking about is what we are doing in school at the moment!
I haven't started my GCSE's yet and I am already going to do badly .
Yeah I'm in the same boat
Don't worry about it seriously, if you put enough effort and revise properly that suits you you have a fair chance at doing decent! don't think negatively because how can you ecpect to do well if you set out to do badly! Think positive! Hope this was helpful to you, have a good day! =D
P.S I'm starting my GCSE's when I go back next week!
Pretty sure concave and convex lenses was glasses, not telescopes. I can tell you didn't care about it. :P
no they were telescope lenses
glasses too though
+Vloggery you tell 'em Emma!
Nope it's definitely telescopes mate
Vloggery I guess you got taught about telescopes then... I got taught about glasses. But one of them (can't remember which) would make the telescope show things as further away rather than closer so telescopes wouldn't really be a good way of teaching it...
Tbh you seem to know more about chemistry than me and I'm in year 11 triple science xD
+Wight Captures Thanks :)
Triple science is suicide wtf I'm doing double and I'm dying
wait for triple science A-Level, i wanted to die
These exams are for primary and secondary school,
FINALLY! I'm getting tired of TH-camrs saying that exams are not that important in the end. Which is way different than saying they're not everything. Not everyone can get offers and chances through TH-cam. Some people do have to study. I'm just glad someone finally acknowledges that.
I'm in year 11 in September, I'm so nervous for my GCSE's
me too, I wish you luck
Same. Good luck :/
I'm going into year 10 and we've got the stupid new system ☹
+Original Chessie yeah it's numbers now right?
Same
Some of the girls in our school write the answers on the top of their thighs under their skirt, the during the exam they pretend to pull up their tights and when they're pulled tight you can see through them to read the answers. No one ever gets caught. (And you're not allowed to have a cover on your calculator now)
Also my friend takes media studies and had to do a magazine (like a full one) and she asked me to model for her so. I hope I'm not the reason she fails!
cos any invigilator that tries to report you will be asked why they're looking at a girl lifting her skirt! 10/10 foolproof method
okay but really emma stop encouraging cheating
+Emma Popcorn How was she encouraging it?😂 She was just talking about what she did in the past
cheating in an unfair system that puts so much unnecessary pressure and stress on young people is really not the worst thing you could do
They make you put the backs of your calculators on the floor so that you can't cheat.
But some graphic calculators can store notes on them anyway and they don't make you clear them before exams. I think some of them can connect to the internet too.
+Lo S Well damn thats a clever calculator
+Lo S we have to have our calculators cleared before we take exams.
+Lo S in Australia we were limited to certain brands/models for this reason
+Nick Louis really? Our exam papers just say we're allowed a 'graphics calculator' and invigilators have no idea what they are half the time so, even if someone brings in an illegal brand (although tbf I don't think anyone did) it won't be checked. But a basic function of the calculator is to store equations so they can't really prohibit it
Getting marks for working out shows you know *how* to do it, even if you fuck the answer up.
It’s lovely to hear your great results but the sad thing is that the GCSEs are a LOT harder now
"Go ask him" 😂😂 I relate so much
About the Earphone thing, well at my school they take away your phones and everything.
I'm going in to year 10. I AM ALREADY STRESSED.
Same :(
I'm going in to year 11 and year 10 is fine don't worry about it x
I feel you so much
Same but as I'm in an academy school, I started my GCSE course last year lol. I'm less stressed cuz I chose subjects that I enjoyed and I am surprisingly good at - except German. That can go fuck off and die I can't do it 😂😂😂
samMmeeee
Ah Emma I love all of your videos! They make me feel really happy and they're really funny too!
Yeah. In my GCSE Math exam they picked a few random people and body searched them🙄 although my school is crazy protective.
There is lower levels, of English, but I think not all exam boards have it; since we do Edexcel, but those doing lower levels, did the lower level for Cambridge.
I'm pretty sure that if someone tried to cheat now then then they would be caught and disqualified in all exams 😬
loving the daily uploads
Also take it from someone who's in Uni doing maths. I'm not the greatest Long division either :P
Here's some advice for revision:
Start revising a good 2-3 months before the exams start (I started during the February half term which gave me plenty of time and I had 20 written exams to study for).
+Sheisun holly crap this is some great advise. Thanks
+Rebecca Garcia-miller
Thanks for the advise but it doesn't really concern me as I have literally no friends, in fact I'm possibly one of the most disliked person in my year just because I'm truthful and don't hold back any feelings what so ever, oh well at least in college in a years time I'll have a fresh start =D
P.S. Congrats on the Grades you got you must be very proud of yourself and thank you for wishing me Good Luck, I hope everything turns out right for you in the future! =P
When English teachers ask what did the writer mean by this I always just say that they are just saying things for the sake of things
Don't do this because I have really low grade in English now
True though
+alex thorne honestly I bet that's the answer half the time, I hate how they make you try to read into all the symbolism of literally EVERYTHING in books
+Alanna R. Ah i see I just don't understand why people ask questions that are interpretations when that is difficult to mark when it's an opinion
alex thorne Well, some interpretations are far more reasonable than others. Here's an example that I'm sure you'll be at least somewhat familiar with:
When Romeo and Juliet first meet, their lines form a perfect Shakespearean sonnet.
But this is definitely the most likely one, and that's why your English teacher tells you about it.
i just found your other channel and im loving it so much...i like talks like this haha i have to binge watch everything now.
Omg I'd forgotten the word 'boffin' hahah - yeah that was still around when I was at school and I finished in 2012
Predictions before i watch: straight F's
Meh, close enough.
lol RE GCSE in catholic school made up most of my sex-ed, so you can imagine what that was like.
also we aren't allowed the covers off of calculators, no labels on water bottles, only clear pencil cases. i would have written answers on my coloured pencils fam.
Did you have to do the single unit Christianity paper for the entire thing? I remember that lol
Remember BJCC (bible, jesus, catechism, creed!) always ahah
I think I did edexcel too, is that the one with the 4 different types of questions and there were 4 modules on the paper which was 2 hours? Those damn C questions T_T
I distinctly remember not knowing what the creed was until I had to talk about it in y10 or something.
Elliereno Morozow feel ya :( it's hell. 15 poems to learn
Some people take longer to remember things than others, I’m almost 15 and still don’t know the 7 times tables.
Don't be revising for two hours maybe one hour with breaks and in the breaks go play a game or something.
The GCSE got changed for my year :(( it's so much harder now especially English, our teachers are saying that if they did the gcse they prolly wouldn't pass, I hate life
blurry jøsh the new maths gcse is gonna kill me, all im getting is 4s in maths but i want a 5 or a 6 😩😭
Sanna Shah you guys are just so unlucky I was in the last year of old style exams, and the new maths papers would be a better reflection of my talent. I did do GCSE further maths and got an A* with distinction. But seriously, if you're doing your GCSEs in Summer 2017, best of luck. You're going to need it....
I was the year before you guys, managed to dodge a bullet there. How'd it go?
Where I live in Wales it's compulsory to do RE and welsh as your GCSEs but that's not fair as hardly anyone in Wales speaks Welsh
Hollie Vaughan relatable
Sasha 😂
i think that's the very reason why it is compulsory to do welsh, because they want to teach you it :)
Yeah, but I am one of the few that is doing Welsh 1st language....Idk why speaking it is helpful but I guess I'll find out soon...
I think I have that opinion because I'm useless at learning it too 😂 😂
now a days we have to remover water labels from our water bottle, leave the calculator case on the floor and put our blazers on our chair! SO ANNOYING
As someone who also left school in 2008, hearing you say "boffin" made my damn day
I love how you dropped maths at AS lvl because of binomial expansion and I’m currently loving learning about binomial expansion at 15 in year 10. Oh how times has changed.
I LOVE THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS - WHY I AM SUBSCRIBED 😂
at my school instead of religious education at GCSE we had philosophy and ethics... yeah... all you needed to know was 'love thy neighbour'
also they make you put your calculator lid on the floor and your phone in a bag which they collected in and got muddled up
I'm heavily protesting about RE currently, probably a bad thing to do. if u want to know why let me know XD but be prepared for a long answer.
+kristian krisk want to know
+ekendi Okay XD, basically to put in extreme short; Most British schools teach RE in using Christianity and Islam which I have no problem with just that they are both religions that are western and not a single one eastern.
I got an A in ethics and taught myself. It was bullshit hahaha
Why does she insist on dumbing herself down when she's actually clever and got good grades?
AhhhhhGGGGHH I’ve got them next year but this is super interesting! I wish more british youtubers talked about this. In my school I have to take all sciences + one language + one humanity + 3 more random ones which most schools in my area don’t do.
It’s..it’s great
Aw, I love binomial expansion! Is such a cool property of maths and a great start to even cooler maths.
Mitosis is a type of cell division where the two daughter cells have the same amount of DNA as the mother cell.
The mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell :-P
Also GCSE sounds like a tough time. In Brazil, where I live, you have to take ENEM after high school to get to a federal college (free and often better than private colleges) and it tests resistance and quick thinking as much as it does knowledge. 180 multiple choice questions and an essay about a surprise subject in two afternoons is a lot!
Yeah, you're called a sweat now, not boffin. I miss that word...
Mannalos j or a neek
Our ICT teacher got caught watching porn. In a classroom. In front of year 7's.
Safe to say, he didn't work at that school for much longer.
Also we had another picture who was so generous with her marking - she gave me an A for a logo that would have actually been given a D.
Good job, ICT teachers.
oml
pretty sure a music teacher in my school was caught watching hentai
+emmablackery Sweet Jesus, that'd be embarrassing. Imagine the staff meetings after that.
in middle school my friend once caught our music teacher masturbating in his office after school.. yeah he doesn't work there anymore
Clocks? Nope, I can't do that.
omg same I never take off my digital clock just because of that reason
I did a lot better than I expected so that was great news! Thankyou fir making an honest video, it is too easy for youtubers to say 'it doesn't matter' when it really does. Btw there is still tiers in some GSCEs like maths and English. also keep up this channel it's great!!!
aw im so glad u started this channel, emma cause i love hearing just more about u and of what u have to say!hope u continue using it :P
We don't have Higher A and B GCSE's anymore, and the grades are also changing. Instead of the normal A's, B's and C's the grades are changing to 9 to 1. 9 being the highest (A*) and 1 being the lowest. Also there are no ways to cheat now, they check EVERYTHING 😭I tried the cheat in my mock exams but got found out 😂
Caitlin Shelley lmao I'm so mad about the new 1-9 system , U-A* was so much better
Bumfluff Mckenzie ugh same 😑I can't see a reason to change them. It just confuses everyone (even our teachers 😂) and now higher grades are even harder to get 😒
Caitlin Shelley a 9 is actually A** and an 8 is a A*
Caitlin Shelley they've changed it so you can add the together and divide it to find your average score. Other than that there's no point
yeah I think they still do a higher paper and a foundation paper for GCSEs I'm going into year 9 so I'm choosing my options this year I'm nervous af
Same I don't have a clue what to choose but all my friends pretty much have their whole lives sorted out
Same
I'm going into year nine too! But I've already chose my options
Don't worry about _what_ you pick, that usually doesn't matter. All you need to worry about it getting 5 A*-Cs (and 3 of them will be English Lit, Lang and Maths - so pick 2 you really love & are good at! The others seriously don't matter)
+Emma Jones have fun while you still can I'm going into year ten
Yes this is a rant.
Sorry for the rant, I hope you do well but if you have any tips I'd appreciate it :)
it is soo interesting to hear what other countries or even schools teach and how they differ from the classes that i had.
for example in my school (i live in germany btw) we did not have an option for creative writing (maybe question three on the exams concerning languages but that is just one tiny little thing)
or the differences when it comes to religion/moral class-stuff. i was on a catholic private school (which was great as i grew up to be an agnostic atheist from age 13 on) and religion was mandatory until you graduated. and it was not even in a free, discussion-ish way..even though the young teacher tried to chill a bit but he still had guidelines..
aand i don't really have any stories about my GCSEs because there is no german aquivalent to it :D but i will join in on the discussion in the comments when you make a video about your a-levels
This was really comforting.
why are Emma's subscriber count for this channel not visible ?
She made it private because the sub count for this channel isn't something she wants to worry about
+Queen Assbutt that's awesome. I'm really liking her first few videos on this channel.
You can still see the views, though.
Zardo Dhieldor But views has nothing to do with subs lmao
***** Well, I think views are a better indicator for the size of a TH-camrs audience than subs. Why care about her sub count when you can see her view count.
WAIT YOUR PHYSICS TEACHER WAS CALLED MR HARPER AND MINE IS CALLED MRS HARPER HOPEFULLY THE HARPERS ARE GOOD AT TEACHING
Just got my welsh GCSE today, Guess who failed? Hehe
Anime Nerd lool
Well, welsh is hard
Mitosis is the process of a cell 'duplicating' kind of, well splitting into two to make a new cell. Mitochondria is where respiration happens in animal cells chlorophyll is just a green pigment that absorbs light and provides energy for photosynthesis (how a plant makes food) I just finished doing biology and moved onto chemistry
Legit in my art class last year my teacher was for some reason obsessed with buildings. We had to do drawings at the start of every single class and half of them were buildings. I understand your pain
I got my results on the 25th...very happy with my 7A*s and 3As but not happy with the '2 marks off an A' B in maths :)
***** It's not worth it with maths.
+Nicole Gourin it really is mate you'll look great on uni applications with an A
DaniChallinor I'll look into it but the chances for a grade change in Maths are low (I've heard) because the mark scheme isn't subjective
+Nicole Gourin got a math remark at A level (where it's even less likely to change) and I went up by 6 ums
Eddie Musoke Oh really?? Thanks, I'll send mine for one then I think:)
where did you get the chair from?
Probally ikea
+Calm Down lmao :')
+Bookahollyic was gonna make a joke. Realised Bookahollyic probably definetly under 17 and connell is a boi yeh I'm not making no joke ;)
+PingWildShot Gaming rip I'm 13 is user is olddd
We have RPE religion, philosophy and ethics which sound like what you did
i got Cs across the board aside from Catering, Engineering and Physics, of which i got a B, then i went on to do A level classes at sixth form and got two Us, an E and a D, so i'm now at art college and am going to join the Navy as an engineer, since i'm not the best at art, and i like the sea, so yep.
I'm in year 9 and have to pick my GCSEs in a couple of weeks
Toast n beans Same and I have little to no idea what I'm going to pick tbh :')
Kawaii Potato me too :P
I picked my gcses a couple weeks ago, I'm in year 8 :)
Harry Cooper I have 6 A level maths papers, including 3 Y13 papers, and I'm in Year 12 :)
Harry Cooper I'm in yr 8 too, but we're only choosing some of our subjects.
Is it just me but it doesn't say how many subscribers Vloggery has?
i have it hidden
emmablackery Oh I didn't know you could do that😛 I love your new channel by the way💕
Hey I like that it's an option to hide it.
This might sound odd but I hope this channel doesn't get popular. A smaller group of people is better I think.
I cheated so bad. I literally wrote tiny revision booklets for my essay based exams, took them into the exam and would just look through them if I needed a quote XD
Also writing on your thighs and hiding notes up your skirt means they can't check if they suspect you're doing it ;)
That's kind of fucking disgusting - other people don't cheat, what makes you so special?
+James Michaels the fact that I did it? Anyone can cheat. If you're too shit for a job you won't get it or you'll get fired, your results from school shouldn't effect that. And medical school is the shit so I'm a big fan of cheating ☺️
crissy4445 Yeah, if you build a career on cheating, what happens when people actually discover how shit you really are?
+James Michaels how? Dude I'm an obstetrician, you think someone is gonna ask me what year the bay of pigs took place and tell me I need to analyse a quotation from Jekyll and Hyde? I got my job because I'm good at it, and I had the sense to not let my shitty grade in RE keep me from saving lives
Teachers are important. I remember almost failing History, but a year earlier when I was in another school with another teacher I was one of the best in my class in History.
Mr Harper and Mr Hill taught me Physics, and now I'm graduating in physics. They were solid teachers. hope they're still teaching.
