Mage knight once you start to master the concept is pretty much untouchable. I know a lot of others like Spirit Island but Mage knight seems to scratch a deeper itch for me, especially after about 20 or so successfull playthroughs where I was winning. There is a time investment to fully appreciate the game.
Its interesting that you have the standard edition and that you love playing it.. All those other videos were done with the deluxe version coz of the minies and like almost everyone instantly added some or all the expansions as well.. Nice to see a standard version gameplay.. Would like to get the deluxe as well but all sold from my country
I like Parlor Football, Aces Baseball Card Game. Battleship Midway Naval
Amazing list! I have 60% of these. Only missing Cthulhu, Nemo’s war, terraforming Mars and Scythe
For the most part I agree have to throw Eldritch horror and marvel united in there though.
Oh, thank goodness ! I have viewed so many “reviews” of small games, only to watch the reviewer’s face and studio but not a single frame of the game set-up. Thanks for your quick, comprehensive review and an idea of what the games look like on the table . 😁👍
Great Video & List.
Mage Knight. A man of culture. Thank you for the list.
Happy that you finished with Mage Knights, of course this is the one ! ❤ Wizkids releases an expansion next year by the way
I wouldn't have said forbidden island due to it not been a small enough box lol When I go on holiday (currently away now!) I take a tin lunch box filled with mainly solo games. Granted most are without their box (I bought a load of drawstring pouches for this) but it does give a bigger variety. Currently I have Limes Elevenses for one The mind Flip 9 Hive pocket (in its own pouch) Star realms Adventure of D (in its own box) Bandido Friday The game Palm island (in own box) Ultra tiny epic galaxies (in own box) I then jus swap in & out a few of the button shy wallet card games.
can u exchange scraps? i thought it was only items??
garage sound😣😣
Thanks you so much for your concise and calm videos. I subscribed and am going to see your others too. Take care
Great video, presentation and content. I have all these great games, and whilst not all would be in my top 10, its a wide range of great solo experiences. The only change I would recommend is swapping out Terraforming Mars (which I found solo play was unexciting and flat) and swap it for Spirit Island.
I wish you would have played this with another human being instead of alone
Nice video! What is the game that appears at the beginning of the video while you are introducing the theme? (at 0.25)
0:20 What game is this?
Pocket Landship looks as if it's precisely the kind of game in which I would be interested. Unfortunate that that secondary market prices are so exorbitant.
Whars the game at 00:46?
I like Star Trek Frontiers thematically more but holds some key differences (and amount of expansion material) from MK so play both! I really enjoy race for the galaxy and twilight inscription as well solo.
I’ve just picked up Scythe. How would you recommend playing for best solo experience? I was debating getting additional automa decks and possibly the modular map but am not sure if it’s worth it
Good vid but the music was a bit annoying after a while
Great list . But I think there are two important games missing, both in my personal top 3 : Spirit Island and Ark Nova !!! Both spectacular in solo games !!!
A lot of new ones for me. Great list. One of my favorite small games is Doom Machine. It’s a tiny dice placement game where you’re trying to defeat a doomsday machine. The machine adds a new card every turn and you have to roll dice and defeat each card. For every card you defeat, you get one more die. Very tense and thinky, and very thematic
I never heard of some of these. Pretty cool list!
I am surprised this didn't make your top 10 solo boardgames list.
Anima: Shadow of Omega and the two sequels are great little games (and there is a solo variant on BGG).
Anima: Shadow of Omega and the two sequels are great little games (and there is a solo variant on BGG).
Can you play this solo? If so how would it rank on your top10 solo list? I checked your last solo list, it was not on there, list made 10months ago. Would it be on the top 10 if you made a new list?
Nop
I would agree with your #1. I don't think anyone could argue against MK. Super fun solo experience.
Excellent and engaging presentation. Well done.
Thanks mate for the kind comment, I appreciate it...
153 games + 47 expansions :)
That's impressive... Added a lot more games myself since the video, we've definitely got issues 😄 Thanks for the comment...
It's a great game but really shines with the monster trail expansion. It has a few small additions, but my favorite thing about it is that it makes the monsters a bit more unique. I dont know if its available in retail yet, but I'd highly recommend it!
Hey mate, yes thoroughly enjoying this one. I had a look for the monster trail expansion but not retail yet... Will definitely look out for it though because adding a bit more variety to the hunts is certainly needed.. Thanks for the comment.
Looks fab!
Definitely my cup of tea... Thanks for the comment and the continued support... See you for the next video.
Hi ! You don't seem to talk about one of the games we see in the intro, the very beautiful game with a map in the middle and some creatures on cards... Can you tell me what it is ?
Hey Vincent, the game is Grimslingers.. I get a lot of questions about that clip, maybe I'll do a playthrough. It's a duelling steampunk cowboy cardgame that comes with a campaign. There is also an expansion called northern territories. You're right it is beautiful. The reason it's not in my top ten is that it needs a lot of house ruling. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment...
@@thesoloboardgamer6051 Thanks !
Would you be interested in reviewing What Lies Beneath? It's a dark solo dungeon-crawler that integrates a choose-your-own-path narrative with a novel combination of dice mechanisms. You'd only need to print a single page (the character sheet) and use 6D6 to play through the hyperlinked PDF.
I would, very much. I have sent you an email, look forward to hearing from you....
6:56 for all the games. I could tell you my favorites but they wouldn't mean a thing to you.
I'd still be interested to hear... Thanks for the comment.
@@thesoloboardgamer6051 dungeon flee, diceborn heroes, salvation road, aftermath, the last stronghold, the forgotten road. Still undecided about galdor's grrip. But I use my own (and better) rules on the above.
Beautiful!
Thanks Alfonso, appreciate the kind comment...
Pericle-its just amazing
I just watched a few videos on this, I can see what you're saying... Thanks for the comment and heads up Marx...
I really appreciate that you take your time to get a good shot of each game with most if not all their components in the frame. Letting us see the actual game when you talk about it, makes it so much easier to get a feeling for how the game is to play. It really gives the game a proper chance to show itself rather than just the cover. I think I actually saw the inside of some of these games for the first time now, even though I’ve seen tens of videos on many of these. Made me rethink my stance on several.
Thanks mate for the kind words... It's one thing that always annoyed me with a lot of reviews where they talk about the game in great length and only show you the box.. For me a huge part of buying a game is how aesthetically pleasing it is...
wish games sell player components separately- how often do we find 4-5 players on a game night? Can’t even settle on a dinner time for a couple of friends 😢…
Very true, it's hard to pin people down to play... Hence solo board gaming I suppose. It would be nice if they could do that, I suppose they want to make the components once, box it all up, forget about it and move onto the next game...
bg groups and online community so far pretty newcomers friendly. 60+ games filled a few shelves should slow down… 😅 It’s quieter, more relaxing than video games 😊
Yeah I've found the boardgames community to be lovely thus far... My list of games is still growing... running out of room in the house...
just found your channel 🎉 game group on/off now mostly solo. Used to video games (easy AI running and totally normal playing alone) 😊
I started this hobby during lockdown, and like you played a lot of solo video gaming... Just recently I've been playing in a local games night with friends once a month, but I still prefer going solo... Thanks for the comments Terry...
Some of the "Tiny Epic..." games are good.
I did buy Tiny Epic Kingdoms ages ago but it remains on my shelf of shame... Should really get round to playing. Which ones would you recommend?...
Where did you get those dice? Just what I'm looking for.
They came with the set. I got it from an etsy seller called rollplayers.etsy.com... I think it was around £20. Hope that helps Ian...
I have to agree with game designer and TH-camr Paul Grogan. Mage Knight is still the best board game I've played even after 40 years of playing. There's so much variety, especially with fan made content, that it just gives it much life. Even campaign missions have been made as well as new characters. I like Gloomhaven but actually like Sword and Sorcery better. Otherwise Sleeping Gods is great and in spite of it's flaws Lord of the Rings Journey through Middle Earth is great as well. Return to Dark Tower is quite good with both expansions. I actually still play Descent second edition quite a bit as well. And of course Under Falling Skies is the very definition of a single player game even though it's not a dungeon crawler.
Definitely, couldn't agree more... Jaws of the lion hit better for me rather than the big box, perhaps just the ease of getting it to the table?... Sword and Sorcery I really wanted to love, but all the rules and fiddly gameplay just killed it a little for me... Descent was the first game I bought and the only one I took the time to paint, has a special place in my heart... Thanks for taking the time to comment...
My top 3 solo games 3. Anachrony 2. Trismegistus 1. Barrage
Fine choices mate...
If you search on TH-cam, I think you will find at least one solo mode demo for the Star Wars game.
Thanks Professor for the heads up, there wasn't one when I did the video, glad it didn't take too long for one to appear...
Hi I just found your chanel / subscribed. Thank you for the game intros I really searched some good solo game and I found it thx to you. :) Solar Storm, Pocket Landship, looks really good. Cartographers and Hero realms' twins ( Star Realms) can be played on phone as well. I would suggest a game to this list: Doom Machine, a PNP card and cube manipulation game, with only 16 cards and 20 cubes. :)
Thanks for the sub and comment... I'm glad you found some good stuff in my video... Thanks for the suggestions as well...
