I’m a novice …I feel the trick with funk is the pure anticipation of the timings and deliberately leaning behind or in front the beat which really is where the skill is ❤
I was born with a wide musical range, having started playing the piano at the age of 6. I quickly developed improvisational skills and created musical compositions that found a place in the deepest corners of my memory, never to be edited. You may wonder why. Simply because of a depression that struck me, an affliction so overwhelming that it deprived me of the ability to memorize even a single note, and today, I content myself with watching others play the piano !!
I'm a drummer also.. Almost 50 yrs of experience.. I don't hear any rushing.. I also know though from my 50 yrs of experience that people love to say stuff like that even if it isn't actually happening . Your feel is great, don't worry about your "timing" just have a good time and you'll have good time. Sounds fantastically funky .

Still love this track. Learned it 3 years ago but forgot how to play the solo. It's rhythmically very demanding and I realized that I just don't have the technical skills to get to that level. For example, I just can't get some licks (2:12) clean and clear.

Hey man! That's amazing stuff, you added some really tasty licks to it as well!! I have one tip though, i'm no pianist but i'm a drummer/bassist/guitarist and an avid funk listener, you're rushing just a tad. Try bouncing those notes on that funky beat and try to bang your head on the beat, it will make your rendition even tastier!
