Help!!!!! I have a 20 litre /5 gallon fish tank with a female betta and bristle nose pleco in it. there is so much gunk laying at the bottom and even after a water change it is still there. i take out 3/4 of the water to get the gunk out and then i put most of it back in so it is only about a 15 percent water change. no matter what i cant get rid of all the gunk. should i take everything out of the tank and wash all the gravel? also i have lots of brown algae on the sides of the tank and it wont come of. i stopped leaving the tank light on and i only did 15% water changes but it is still there. any advice would be very much appreciated. thanks!
Brown algae is not light but diatom algae. Usually caused by the nitrogen cycle crashing. You can do a small 10% water change a day until the gunk is gone. Just dechlorinate and adjust the pH / GH of the new water before it goes in the tank. Feed the fish every second day only a little amount for the next month until things settle down.

@@paulstingray thanks, would adding some stability help the tank?
Do you know the NH3 / NO2 levels?
@@paulstingray NH3 looks between 0ppm-0.25ppm and NO2 looks like 0ppm and High Range pH test was about 8.2
