This is probably the best Surfboard Roofrack tie down tutorial on youtube, clearly and concisely explained without rushing the visuals. Took far too long to find this. Cheers dude!
Was getting so frustrated trying to install these that I was about to toss my straps in the garbage, then found your video. You’re a life saver dude. Thanks!!!
The internet is a weird place. I was just looking for a better way to strap my board onto my car and then realize that the tutorial is by a guy that I used to hang out with almost 20 years ago at Jerm Wright's place in Solana Beach! Cheers Skip! Hope your doing well!
Yeah so I'm a construction worker and avid surfer and still couldn't figure out these straps until this video 🙌🏾. Great job bro👌🏾 thanks for the instructional vid😎
For the loose excess, do what Bob did but 1st, estimate where the strap gets trapped by the door mounding's soft seal, add a few inches, tie a snug (not tight) knot in the strap, spin in a few twists so the strap again vibrates less in the wind, close the strap in the door. Now its properly trapped.
Hey I just have one question if you be kind enough to answer. Why did you tie one side of the board in the bars across your car, and then on the other side you tied it on the car bars? Doesn't that give room to the board to move around to the side of the car bar knot while on the road?
It’s been so long since I made this video, I honestly can’t remember, but I believe I was showing the 2 different ways it can be attached depending on your car rack set up. If you have an existing roof rack, go ahead and attach it to both sides. That’s normally how I tie mine down. Also give your straps a few twist and you won’t get flutter on the freeway - cheers!
I need to strap down 2 x 8' foam boards, what length straps would you recommend please? Thanks for a clear and easy to follow tutorial, much appreciated!
How are the clamps on these? I’ve got another brand and they’re frustrating the hell out of me coz it’s so difficult to feed the strap through the teeth especially on colder days
can you tell me which rack pads you have on there? My roof rack bars are kind of thick like yours, and I'm wondering if I need the XL rack pads or not. Thanks!
Well... put fins facing front since the board will probably fall behind the car, if that happened. Fins would catch the strap and stop the board. I'd put something between the board and the straps, to protect it or at least not let the metal parts touch the board when everything's tight, even in case we carry epoxy boards

Are those crossbars aftermarket, if so what are they?
Did you find the brand of crossbars?
@@steffanooyanader4425 They are from VW

these are designed for a stand up paddle board or kayak
What size the pads? I'm looking at the 18 inch cheaper compared to the 28
Answered my own question thanks
28"
any reason not to strap yr board on the roof in a board bag?
I've never had any issues with these straps, but I previously owned shorter straps where the buckle ended up on the side and pressure dinged the board
nope
How long are the straps?
12 feet
The straps are 12 feet long. You can stack 2 boards on top of each other comfortably ( or 4 total side by side)
Dakine should sponsor you or pay you lol since you are left clueless when you open the package and no instructions thanks.
yewwww! Thanks brah

You also put the board on backwards like he did to avoid the headwind force from pressing down on the board rocker (less stress).
A U? or a YEEWWWWWWW!!!!
