There were only 3 things in this movie I missed.
1. Bardock’s violence
2. Saiyan tails (I wish Broly could’ve kept his. I want more mighty Ozaroo scenes)
3. Broly’s savagery. Sure he had it in this movie, but it wasn’t as cool.

I like how Bardock's attack actually *did something* to Freiza's attack this time.
And it looked like he actually struggled to survive instead of just launching a simple ki ball and dying without fighting back.

@@xrstevenson It is symbolic tho, him just standing there like all of the Saiyans symbolises that like the rest of the saiyans in his time powerless against Frieza. The DBS: Broly version however proves Frieza's flaw and the Saiyan's strength from my perspective anyways, because even when absolutely weak against Frieza Bardock managed to give Frieza's attack a slight push. This proves that the Saiyans do have a potential at beating Frieza, but it will take a much more stronger one to take him out once and for all.
OneTouch Games They implied that this version of Bardock also fought Frieza's henchmen, they probably cut it because of limited movie time.
This movie as a whole was quite an spectacle, but it indeed had a plot beneath all that.
Seeing Bardock, unlike some comments adress, isn't seeing a "pure" Saiyan, but a nameless warrior like it was sorta meant to be in Toei's TV special. What Toriyama did was giving him a better understanding of his surroundings and *care* about his family, something considered strange in the Saiyan society. Gine, on the other hand, wasn't a warrior, but a commoner that worked as anyone else would do in a factual, functional society. Raditz, even though his appearance is brief, shows some traits his family had, but is visibly shown to mimick Vegeta's ruthless behavior in order to fit in his group.
What truly makes Bardock's and Gine's deaths tragic is that they were the exception in the brutal Saiyan society: a loving family that cared for each others. It all makes Goku's survival more painful as he forgets all about them.
Toriyama still has it in him, and Nagamine's direction portrayed it perfectly thanks to the incredible talent of Norihito Sumitomo and everyone in the production. *Thank you very much!*

The second 3:49 hits, i get an overwhelming amount of chills and sadness throughout my body.
Bardock knew he had to send Kakarot away but didn't want to. Everyone thought his "maybe i'd like to save something for once" line was cheesy but I loved it. It goes to show a more emotional side to Saiyan men that we _never_ get to see. Everybody hates Super (or Minus) Bardock but I love him. He's a much more compassionate and emotional Saiyan while still maintaining his badassery that we saw during the '90's. Seeing the number on Freeza's scouter dwindle down to zero was heartbreaking and Gine's "don't forget us Kakarot" is also heartbreaking. This entire scene is heart-wrenching and, at times, painful to watch. You're seeing a family break apart and never reunite. That alone is enough to make anyone cry (myself included)
I was already in tears when Bardock and Gine said their goodbyes, I felt a sharp pain In my chest when gine yelled "Don't forget is Kakarrot!" Than as Bardock fired off Spirit of all Sayians and fighting back but utterly failing nearly broke me... I felt disgusted... Angry and sadness seeing said scouter dip all the way to Zero....
I don't see Minus Bardock as a more compassionate character overall, I just see it as Bardock cares about his family way more than anything. He's still a ruthless warrior, but his soft side is his family, and I love it.

DBS: Broly is the best movie of all time, and I will stand by this opinion for 10 years if I have too.
This movie does an amazing job the origin story of Goku, Vegeta and Broly. It's hands down the best movie I've ever watched and one of the few movies that I keep watching and never get bored of watching it. I can't wait for Super to return next year

First of, it's simply sad.
Second of all, Goku doesn't remember his parents or their sacrifices, which is exactly what his mother Gine never wanted to happen.
Third, he only knows Raditz's side of what happened. Since Raditz was told Goku was sent away in a pod, he assumed that Goku was sent there to kill every inhabitants. Since Goku only knows about his parents through Raditz, they're nothing but genocidal savages to him.
Old Man And man the score is just...phenomenal.
Would've liked to see at least 1 minute scene of Bardock fighting against Frieza army :(

Watching the scouter tick down to zero was... it's hard to describe. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but something about showing it that way made it feel a lot more... real and chilling, I guess.
I think it's because, well, we've seen planets explode in Dragon Ball a few times; it's a horrifying event, sure. However, it's often quite fast, and/or you don't really see much in the way of what that implies. Yes, you know that means all life, all history, everything that once was there is gone now. But with that scouter overlay, you are literally watching the collective life of the planet fade as it explodes. You must watch, as Frieza did (though, in his case, with smug satisfaction), as all that life energy just... fades away, in mere moments.
The scene does not allow you to be ignorant of how absolutely horrific what just happened really is.
It's not the first time we've watched as a scouter ticked down to zero, and each time it's somewhat sobering as it happens. But this is the first time we've really seen it happen from the view of the user, the first time it's been so clear and readable... and the first time it's represented so much.
The other time scouter readings were used to this level of a bone-chilling effect? Well... you know what's going on in the full version of Solid State Scouter, don't you? All the way up to how it ends the way it does?
I know that feeling after seeing Krypton be destroyed in Man of Steel

What i love about the new Bardock's death is he use a beam to fight Frieza, you can see him struggling to the bitter end. And adding this music really rips your heart.
Unlike the first one who fires off a single energy ball and just scream to his death. The only thing missing from the new one is Bardock fighting Frieza's henchmen.
I would have love to see an "easter egg" of Bardock going through that wormhole just after the beam to fight Chilled and become the feared legendary Super Sayajiin that Frieza is affraid of.
Or just a Flash of Bardock seeing Goku vs Frieza on Namek and being happy

after the fight with cell, emotionally the series was dull throughout buu saga and into super but then this damn movie shows up out of nowhere hitting harder than anything the series ever had, from sending goku away to the scene with frieza watching the population go to zero and many other scenes that were just as impactful, it was masterful
With the last chapter of DBS where the scene of Bardock & Gine's farewell that Goku remembers when listening to his father's words is reproduced, this scene is already more emotionally impactful now. One even can listen to this music while reading those panels where the scene in the manga is played.

The movie for me is a solid 9/10. This is by far my favorite theme from the whole movie. Jesus Christ it made me tear up. When Gine said “ don’t forget about us kakarot” the voice actor did so good. I felt the pain in her voice.
This movie was a banger not because of Broly and Gogeta. But because the past of the story we've never seen has been actually animated.

4 years later I’m realizing that you see 4 main characters fathers and get a glimpse into their relationships with them. Bardock and Goku, King Vegeta and Vegeta, Paragus and Broly, and King Cold and Frieza. They all interact with their sons differently but there’s one thing all four of them share. All four fathers loved their sons
I think there is no need to tell anyone why so many people like him, he properly appeared on screen for only 2 times yet he won our hearts.

Best song from the film in my opinion, it feels so grand, yet it begins so somber and humble. When it swells near the end, you can feel the rage, the fear, the hope that bardock felt in those last moments of his life.

You have to credit the makers of this movie. This one piece of music has several powerful scenes: Bardock and Gine saying goodbye to Kakarot, Bardock making his last stand, the Saiyans seeing their destruction coming and what was, for me, the most powerful moment of the movie: the scouter going from thousands of life signs to zero.

Upon hearing this, Bardock starts having speculations of what frieza was planning, so he and his wife gine begin taking their son to a pod to send him off from planet vegeta.

Gine wants to understand why Bardock is even doing this out of speculation. No sayian father would care this much about their children, so what gives?
Bardock explains to her that he spent his whole life fighting and conquering...for once he wanted to save something, even if it's his own low power level son Kakarot.
They can't go with him because their power level would expose them to frieza's army.

With heartfelt goodbye gine tells her son goodbye and promises to go back for him just in case bardock was wrong.
The pod leaves moments before frieza finally shows up hovering above the planet.

Around this time frieza hurls his supernova to planet vegeta with the intention of killing everyone and destroying the entire planet.

Bardock tries to stop it from hitting his planet but fails, making him the first to fall, the first to die to frieza's supernova.

In the film as soon as you see the supernova collide with planet you get to see from frieza's scouter that the power levels on the dying planet are going down significantly. Signifying that all the sayians are dying. When it's over the scouter has a power level of *zero.*
Meaning that all the sayians are now gone, a proud warrior race reduced to space dust. Most of them anyway. In my opinion while I love the original origin of Bardock...this version felt more heartfelt to me. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I actually did like this retcon. Made me like Bardock more than his original counterpart.
Not saying it's not good.
Both are great in my opinion but this added more to the father of goku Bardock.

Bardock Frickin' Dies: The Song
At least they gave Bardock a proper goodbye. He wasnt seen as a crazy saiyan and was the only one to fight back against Frieza. Farewell Bardock.
This track always makes me sad.
The idea Bardock, a character I grew up with, had a much more tragic end. He didn’t see the future, he didn’t know what was happening, but he knew frieza was up to something horrible. When he died, there wasn’t any fanfare, frieza didn’t care, he died quietly. And that is what makes this track impact me. He did his best and died like everyone else. It made him feel small in comparison, kinda like the original, but sending his son off, saying goodbye with his wife, being hopeful that goku would remember, all of it, just really hits hard.

Probably the most powerful and emotional piece of music within this whole movie, hats off to the musicians who made this masterpiece.
Even though this is a sad scene, it makes me happy. It's nice to think about all the great moments Goku will experience at Earth during the Original Dragon Ball.
