Dude, this is brilliant!!! I have a 2013 Ultra Limited and am switching over to the detachable mount. However, when I got the tour pack off I discovered the 475 miles of wire (including that useless intercom/CB cable, which I’m just taking out altogether) that’s supposed to fit under the seat. I’m also switching over to a solo seat when the pack is off, so things only looked more grim. After sleeping on it, I formulated a plan to do something like this when I stumbled across yours and this Australian guy’s videos looking to see if there was a kit. The plugs are called “Deutsch Connectors” and you can get a big kit (with more than you probably need) for about $75.00. I do appreciate the idea of using one 6 pin plug instead of two 3 pin plugs, it will eliminate my screwing things up. You’d think someone would market this, wouldn’t make millions but it would sell for sure. Again, thanks for the information.
@@Moto-foody nice! Good luck with the project! If I had more motivation I'd make a kit for this because you're right, it would sell decently. Not sure of it pertains to your plans or not but after you eliminate the CB, you can change out the dash panel for something a little more sleek too like I did in this video th-cam.com/video/1vDxC_u7134/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5fh3QOv96L1gYgBP I think it makes it look a ton better. *not sponsored
@@LifeontheBlacktop Yup, exactly what I’m doing next, gotta make that CB/Intercom stuff go. It’s ugly, outdated, and wholly unusable because I live in the 21st Century and use my Cardo. To be honest, the only reason I leave the radio in is because it has a clock (I Bluetooth XM Satellite Radio into my Cardo unit), I’d rather have a storage compartment like my 2004 Electra Glide Standard. Thanks for the tips, it’s assuredly made my life simpler.
I'm not sure how old this post is, but THANK YOU for all this valuable information. I'm in the midst of converting my FLHTCUSE7 to a quick-detach and this is going to save me hours of grief. Lucky me I already have all the crimpers. Thanks again.
This was really informative! Thanks for taking the time to throw this out there. I love riding with my beautiful wife! That being said... NO COM!!!! I like being in my own head!!! My thoughts and music and I am good. She is my GPS!! Warm breezes on you all!
Good video. I did the same. I grouped the wiring and introduced deutch connectors on either side of the bike, and can now unplug and remove, or add the beerbox in less than 2 minutes. I also switched the antenna to a hidden system installed in the fairing... not quite as good reception, but no ugly antenna..... and to class it up I switched the license plate brackets and installed a curved laydown plate mount. Looks amazing, fast and easy..... and the Techs at our dealerships and shops are NOT doing it this way.....
Thanks for posting this video. I'm a first time Harley owner and this was applicable to my 2008 Ultra classic Electra Glide! Lights all working and organized. Two wheels down, HP.
Hi HP I know this post is 2 years old but. I too have a 2008 Ultra Classic and plan on doing the tour pack and the conversion for the passenger sissy bar. Was all the electrical connectors listed here all that you needed to complete this project without ordering anything else?? Or substituting?....other that the conversion docking kits. Thanks
I have a 2015 limited flhtk. I have all my hard parts but haven’t installed. I have been alittle concerned with what kind of wiring gremlins I will run into. I enjoyed your video and understand that my wiring may be completely different.
As long as you get the pins crimped well enough you should be good. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause any issues. Go for it and good luck!
Man what a ton of work I have a 2012 Electiglide Classic so no lights in the tour pack I have the quick connect hardware all I have to do is unscrew the antenna( I have the relocation kit done for the antenna) and remove the trunk. I bought a shorty antenna screw it on instant street glide lol.30 sec or less done
@@BaggersandBrews Yeah, when I get on that bike it's whole other world. Neither bad or good... just feels like another realm of motorcycling so to speak.
Yep! There is nothing worse than being in a deep thought going down the road and then something interrupts it out of nowhere. Sometimes we have to tell each other when we need to pee though lol.
I agree as I don’t run a com system or a Bluetooth system on my full face helmet. I have enough voices in my head already, lol. Great video. Thanks for the info. I do have one question. How often do you actually take your tour pack off? I’m thinking of doing it but not sure if it’s worth it.
Try using some zip ties for the wires and some electrical grease for your plugs. Water proofs your plugs and keeps your wiring from looking like a drunk spider did it
hey just found your video about the tour pack removal and wanted to ask where did you get the plugs that you used to relocate the wires under the seat, you said drag spec. but what kind or what are they called? thanks, brother
It's called a Deutsch connector. If you go to the first post in the forum it should have the part numbers listed. You can Google the part numbers and choose your favorite retailer to order them. Link to the thread is in the description! Hope that helps.
I think there is a tool for crimping them but I just used a pair of wire crimpers I had in the garage. I'll have to do some digging on that plate brackets. I don't remember where I got it lol.
@@steve0cole735 yeah, you can disconnect all of the plugs underneath the tour pack liner and just wrangle them all under the seat. They will fit, its just really tight.
As far as male side and female side, no. You can kind of do whatever there, but these wires run your turn signals and audio for the tour pack if you have speakers, so the side to side matters and make absolutely sure you’re feeding the colors to the right colors after cutting them.
Just got my dads 98 ultra classic how difficult is it to remove the tour pack etc idc about having a radio on etc so speakers and all that doesn’t matter much
It's hard to remember but I don't remember it being too difficult. It took some time though because there is a lot that needs to come off and go back on with the Harley kit I got.
Occasionally it will drag on the docking hardware. Try unlatxhing one side and then wiggling the tour pack a little. Maybe put a small drop of oil on it or something to help free it up for next time after you get it off. One of mine is pretty tight too.
Man what a shit load of work My 2012 Elecriaglide Classic has no lights I only have to is unscrew my antenna ( I have the antenna relocation )I bought a shorty antenna put it on and bingo bango done takes 30 sec or less

Dielectric Grease. It's the bomb. Promotes a solid connection and waterproofs the connection.
Hi...so I would need to cut all the wires, then reconnect them using the new plugs right?
Insane that a “turn key” kit isn’t made and you have to piece this all together yourself from several different manufacturers
Yeah I agree!
Thanks
Absolutely! Hope it helped!

NO! I looked at those too, but all they do is extend the existing wire even more.
