  • The Burned Man, well acquainted with Stoicism and Roman things, reads the Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, the last of the "Five Good Emperors". The original text was written in 167 AD, and this translation is by George Long, and the voice actor for Joshua Graham is Keith Szarabajka.
    Let me know in the comments what voice you want next, and what work you want them to read!

      Is this sarcasm? sorry, have to ask, i'm old and cant keep up every time someone is sarcastisc or ironic.
      Since, rejecting public schools is rejecting a a set standard, sure, i could kinda agree that MOST of ANYTHING that could be claimed "standard" 1800+ years ago, is that what you mean or are you a fan of homeschooling today? if so, in which country? i could understand and would emediatly say yes to homeschooling if i lived in north korea for example, while in more stable countries with riches in knowledge and a set standard from this wealth of our collective wisdom, history, art, mathematics, socio economiscs, spots etc, plus there's the whole social part.
      Even if the past time between periods would probably involve stoning of the local leper or something of similar sportsmanship and bonding amongst the youth, the social part would probably be the only good part with school back then, man i have heard stories from my grandma and the methods of discipline, madness...and that wasn't even 100 years ago - -

      @@SOLH-vq3lh Your grandpa probably turned out better than the youth of today. He didn’t have teachers pushing radical belief systems on him. No shooter prep drills. No microplastics in his food, no psuedoestrogens either. They didn’t push rewriting the pasts mistakes to fit a narrative of victimhood. No keeping up with the Jones’s mentality being pushed at all times via social media leading to skyrocketing depression/suicide rates. Homeschooling in the US has been said to turn out “weirdoes” but in public schools you’ll have someone insist they’re a cat and walk around wearing ears and a tail, purring from the compliments from their classmates for being such a free spirited individualist.

    • @DontRespectTheUS
      @DontRespectTheUS ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean sports is good for excercise and team building. If the “home” has a good curriculum that centers on “how would we find out what’s more accurate to reality” or some specialized trade/skill.
      In that last one though breeding for poorer people was more an obligation to have hands to work. But in the more contextual sense hedonism has ruined nations and is always simultaneously endorsed and condemned by the wealthy and corrupt.

    • @whocares427
      @whocares427 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SOLH-vq3lh modern public schools in the west, and especially in America, mostly just exist to give money to corporations. They feed the students junk food like lunchables, fries and pizza in the lunch break to get them addicted to corporate food early (and get them on the fast track to diabetes, so they'll have to pay for insulin).
      Then in class if a child displays any abnormal behavior at all, the teachers will immediately demand that they be diagnosed with something like ADD, Aspergers, etc. And then the teachers will demand that the parent medicate the child.
      For example I had an unstable home environment and resulting insomnia. I acted out in school. Instead of interrogating any of the issues I had, even though they were extremely obvious (like sleeping in class), they just put me on Dexamphetamine, a powerful stimulant which just made everything worse. This is because Big Pharma has spent decades influencing teachers to think that every problem a student might have is medical, and giving them pills is the first and only solution.
      Nowadays they extend this even further, with teachers going after any student (even kindergartners) that displays even the tiniest amount of gender nonconforming behavior (like playing with the wrong toy), and telling them they must be Trans, and putting them on the pipeline to puberty blockers and then surgery (which results in someone becoming, a crippled, lifelong medical patient - the perfect cash cow for corporations). Then they hide it from parents and demonize them if they try to protest or protect their children from unnecessary harm.
      Western society doesn't view people as People, it views them as meat. Cattle. Something to be ground up and exploited until death, then thrown away. And that process of causing harm to you in order to extract money starts in Kindergarten and never stops for the rest of your life.
      And what do you get in exchange for putting your child in such an exploitative capitalist environment? A bunch of incoherent propaganda and terribly done lessons from teachers who don't care about anything because they can't be fired. Functional illiteracy is increasing year after year, but at least all the right people are getting buckets of money out of it.
      Anyone who would willingly send their child to a Public School in the West doesn't deserve to be called a parent (unless they have no other choice).

      You're walking the same path I once walked. I too was expelled from high school at 17, and delved deep into self reflection, philosophy, and the process of building a new person.
      Im sure our situations aren't identical, but I personally fell into a bad place filled with shame for a couple of months. I dug myself out with the realization that I need to just start doing something other than sitting around. I did a lot of reflection, philosophical reading, and figuring out who I was, and want to be. I realized that I never wanted to return to that horrible place I was in.
      It sounds like you're on the right path, friend. I recommend figuring out what you value/admire and what you want to build your character behind. For me, that was Discipline, Honesty, Hard work, Strength and Kindness. As well as a spattering of others.
      Don't measure yourself against others, or others perceptions of those values. Hold yourself accountable to your perception of those values. To become an individual you must not let the opinions of the herd sway your motives.
      Good luck on your journey, and apologies for the essay.

      if you have never had real speakers i urge you to get some cheap yet well made bookshelf ones, it makes such a difference in your life and then feels like the default

      The synthesis does have some quieter parts, something I can try fix for the next one.

    This is suspicious, it was published shortly after Niccyans vote pole. I'm not throwing around accusations but this is very different from all your other content and it seems all too convenient that you released the video between the time that he had released the pole and when he streamed it live.

      I saw Niccyans Art of War video and it was other videos and his that gave me the idea to have Joshua read other things, and Meditations seemed the perfect fit. However I was totally unaware he had a poll. But it makes sense that me and other people would both have the same idea given the character Josh is. In the future I will keep an eye on his polls and I'm sure there's more than enough voice over works for the both of us! Also it's totally fine to throw accusations around btw, which is exactly what you're doing when you say "it seems all too convenient". Have belief in your convictions and say things plainly, as Marcus would want!

      With how much this genre of videos is trending with so many new channels trying to jump on, its actually not the most outrageous thing that someone would have the same idea without knowing someone else was already in the midst of doing it, especially when it is something as simple as having a popular character with a ROMAN themed backstory that is used frequently in these synthesized videos read a popular ROMAN piece of literature.

    Did you steal this idea from Niccyan

      If he did, Niccyan is no better. I think he got some of his video ideas from another channel called Synthetic Soundsmith.

      The word "steal" most definitely is an absurd choice. Seeing as how they're hundreds of Joshua Graham's channels popping up daily. It's trending.

      @@OneDayAtATime365 long reads and motivational ai trend definitely started with synthetic Soundsmith's first upload, I watched it explode in real time and now a bunch of other channels are jumping on the trend.

      No, I had no idea Niccyan was doing a poll, and was a bit mortified finding out about it and that his audience had voted for the same idea that I had. But I had published the video before finding out any of this, and at first thought he had borrowed my idea when he published his vid lol. I was inspired by his other Joshua reads vids, but had no intention of cutting in on his audiences poll. In future I'm sure there will be enough works for both of us to do voices on!
