I recently landed my first axel. I'm 35 years old. And i have never taken private lessons. Every skater has no excuse now. Axels for everyone. 🎉

I landed my first Axel at 44 years old, after two years of working on it. Never take private lessons either. Axels are really for everyone!

Thank you so much - I love breakdowns like this, where even though I don't dare think about even a waltz jump, I can still start on the foundation building blocks. Btw following your HIIT series I did start practising some swizzle jumps, and have even been landing them on one foot -- not getting very high off the ice and struggling to hit the outside edge, but baby steps!

Oh my gosh, I love hearing about your progress with the HIIT! Thanks for leaving some feedback!

Thanks, Coach. I've gotten my Lutz; so now I'm working axel drills on and off ice. This is super helpful.

Thank you so much! I am so close to getting my axel. I have landed it multiple times, just not consistently and can not figure out why. I am going to try these steps to break it down to see if it helps with that I am doing wrong.

Thank you so much for this axel video. ❤ Though coach sent me a few steps back to get more consistency on flips and lutzes, I’m going for axels every now and then on my own. Still can’t forget the feeling of that one time when somehow I magically pulled it off! Seeing this video, I think position #3 is what made the difference that one time…so definitely gonna work on it this coming week. 💪
As for my non-existent spins, I have one last plan of attack that I wanna try. It seemed to work on a spinner, but then again, I’ve actually been pretty decent on a spinner. It’s just that none of it carries over to the ice…Fingers crossed that this plan works, once and for all. I really hate to be the guy that got axels before scratch spins…
Edit: 3 o’clock in the morning here and I’m having trouble sleeping…gotta get to that rink and “get high”

At least your not like the guy at my rink who was able to do a DOUBLE AXEL before he had a consistent backspin.

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Be patient with those spins. My camel spin was awful for so many years. I almost gave up. Then one day it clicked!

@@CoachJulia Back from the rink with some good things to share...
Second and third position (as in this video, not ballet) are really important! I applied those positions on Waltz and Salchows, (didn't attempt an axel today as I just wanted to do the exercises) and was able to "get really high" like never before.
Fourth position (again, not the ballet position) also helped with toe loops. In fact, I think I got my cleanest ever RBO landing today. Felt so good!
Since fourth position is essentially a back scratch spin, I tried it for the spin and was able to get a few rotations with consistency. Applied the same principle on forward scratch and at least got a nice one-foot spin with no travel. (if only I can get my right leg to cross over!) So more positives there.
Really, it's been a while since skating was fun for me. It's been all stress lately. I'm so thankful for the things you explained in this axel video, as they also apply to many other things and brought back some fun, at least for today.

Awesome! Thanks for you great videos. I've skated for 3,5 months now, (adult beginner) and I'm finally getting my crossovers a little bit. Front and back; obviously they need tons of practice, but I've got the movement and idea of it down. I'm getting a little eager to learn my waltz jump, I'm just doing little pretend waltzies from a 3-turn. But I can jump half a rotation, taking off and landing with two feet on ice! :D This is so excitinggggg.
Also, was there an app you were gonna launch at some point, actually?

woooo cant wait to get out there and try these exercises ! jumps are so much harder for me than spins… esp toe pick jumps. love loop and salchow. still struggling with toe loop and flip. Im terrified of lutz. but axel looks so fun cant wait to try it some day

That's great! Thank you so much i've been waiting for this 😊 I noticed that during 3rd exercise I staright my leg when its close to the ice (as if I kick a ball) then I bend the knee again into h position. Is that a mistake or just another way to do it?

Stop talking, and do an axel first. If you can’t do an axel, there is not validity in what you say.

@@CoachJulia Your videos are amazing. From watching all your jumps tutorials, I have managed to reproduce those elements on my own. My friend often suggest to me that I should get a coach but I don't feel like I need those private coaching sessions when I could just watch your videos and learn on my own. In my mind, you are my coach. The value of a person is not solely determined based on whether they could do any one specific thing. Your channel have inspired and given new skaters such as me the motivations and the guidance needed for us to goals we aspired. Please ignore the naysayer and have a great day.
