- I’ve had this Pioneer Opus Quad since the week it came out and I’ve used it every week since.
In this video I highlight 3 things I love about this DJ controller and 3 things I wish were different. .

I just bought one of these. Never DJ'd a day in my life. My friends do. Figured it'd be fun to learn on.
Wow. Diving in at the deep end. Love that
I respect the send. I’m sure your friends will have a ball teaching you on such a nice piece of equipment. Plus you won’t have to upgrade for a LONG time.
@@thekingofkings641 riddim chopping is SO MUCH FUN!!
That’s the spirit jump in both feet on the bad boy
I feel the same about my Opus! Thank you for your insights.
I started my own show with the Quad. Growing little by little, and the fun I've had doing it is just too much :) I fkin luv it!
Nice mate. Keep up the good work
Also a day1 opus quad owner here! Still in love with it, I always played with stand alones (rx2/rx3), so I don’t miss the sampler, never used that. Connectivity is indeed awesome on this unit! Also as a wedding DJ it is great to finally have 4 channels/decks, I often have to set a track ready, and play it directly on a live cue (when someone signals me that bride is arriving for example). It’s great to have that track ready at deck 3 or 4, so I can slam it in when needed!
Absolutely agree with this buddy. All to often that first dance is on cue and runs over by a few mins. With the Opus we’re covered. Love it. Cheers for your comment
never used sampler. oww mate u missed a lot of djing world
@@DeejayWilly Yeah, i only play standalone, so that's not available unfortunately.
👍
Only 4 minutes and learned something completely invaluable! Thanks, Mayne!!
No problem 🙌
Nice straight to the point! Thanks for honesty.
No problem Tony. Thanks for your comment. What controller do you use?
This is a great video! I bought a FLX10 when they were first released. I absolutely love that unit but can totally understand why so many DJ'S, love the Opus.
Thanks mate. Really appreciate your support. The FLX 10 seems like a solid controller. Do you use the stems feature much?
@@diaryofadj Yes! I do use the stems feature on my FLX10 and am practicing a lot to get better and more creative with it.
Great 👍. Stems is the only thing I’m lacking with using a standalone
@@diaryofadj Hey D! I believe you can use stems on your Opus Quad. I could swear I came across an article online on how to use Rekordbox stems with the Opus. That's a beautiful kit man.... I would love to spin on an Opus in the near future.
Yeah.. I can configure it but I would need to have a laptop plugged in and I just love using it in standalone mode ✌️
All you mention that is good and what you wish for is in fact already on the Denon Prime 4+
I have a prime 4 and wanted to switch to the Opus..but now..never mind..thank you
Anytime 💃
You touched on something I have yet to hear anyone say in a long long time re: laptops "everyone knows how to use a laptop" and damn you nailed it. That's why as much as I like having my library with me, people don't have the same assumptions re: either CDJ's, standalones, turntables. Bravo. Fantastic point.
Thanks mate. Glad you resonate 🤘
I have the Opus Quad and love it.
I just wish that when using more than 2 channels that the user interface was clearer for the non selected channels. (would love to see the two channels summarised on the left and right screens. And /or 4 stacked waveforms in the centre screen. )
Yeah that’s a great point. More use of the secondary screens. I feel ya on that
I have the numark mixstream , and just need wi-fi and big speakers! 😁( the built in or small for party)
Yeah that mixstream does look pretty good.. can you use rekordbox with it?
@@diaryofadj No, use built-in engine dj.
Good to know 👍
Reads rekordbox playlists too.. :)
Interesting
Denon Prime 2 user here, not as heavy as the prime 4 so that's a bonus, and to be honest4 channels would be nice but I can still produce a great night just using two channels 👍
I chose Denon when I switched from CD's and CDJ's as 80% of my music I had backed up in FLAC format and at the time Pioneer didn't play FLAC and I couldn't be bothered to convert everything. 😂
I also love the 'no laptop' way of working too.
No bluetooth yet (it's coming apparently) but I can link to streaming services and to my own Dropbox account (where I keep all my music) so if it isn't on my usb and I know it' in my collection I can connect either by wifi or phone hotspot to grab it. Personally I wouldn't rely on streaming only for a whole set but for the odd track, it can be invaluable.
Love the videos here and Insta etc. 👍👍👍
Hey mate. Thanks for you comment. The standalone is the way forward isn’t it!
Streaming is very handy. I hope the opus quad ends up with streaming in built. Thanks for your support buddy.
1. Why you dont use midi mapping for the samples, or 1 channel with a file ?
2. Did you test the wifi ? Is it stable? It like to work only with usb , but want the laptop parallel.
Greets from germany
Hi mate. Thanks for your comment. I have considered midi mapping. It may be the wifi but it happens a lot. I think You don’t need wifi to connect the bluetooth.. I don’t connect my OQ to wifi 👍
My opus is being shipped today!!
I’m also 50 yrs old and learned how to DJ with
Two turntables ( back in 1988 )
I’m using the opus for an easier setup then my
Bigger club DJ setup
Nice mate. You’ll love the opus. Be sure to let me know how you get on
I've had the opus from day one and the soft case is the way forward. Strange with your Bluetooth connectivity. I use mine 5 nights a week and the iPad connects within 2 seconds everytime. Only problem I have had is when I changed my ipad and had to delete the old one and connect to the new one that was a real pain and took ages.
I absolutely love the opus and for me far better than any controller or stand alone I've used. I only have one complaint and that's not with the unit it's with Pioneer. In one year we've only had one update. A year later still no streaming services way behind the competition. From an email I received they said it would definitely be coming as they've added it to the cdj3000 which is running virtually the same software. But nothing yet.
100% agree with your comments. We are due an update
I am torn between the XDJ-ZX and this Opus quad
still use the original xdj-rx, love the thing, does all you need for a mobile dj, its stable and reliable. has the "club standard", if i use the cdj 2000/3000 on a gig, its famillar , only thing i miss is a touchscreen, like the later models, would make searching a lot easier , lack of a full 3th channel on the mixer for a ipad for requests i dont have with me.
Great to read buddy. Thanks.
The original RX is a cracking bit of kit
I use an RX2. I don't have too many complaints besides the screen. I just got an RX3 just because I wanted something new, also can't live without the fx pads. As cool as the opus quad is, I doubt it'll ever be for me. I do hope an RX4 or XZ 2 uses some of these features. Really wishing for standalone 4 channels, no linking.
what would you say is better Opus Quad or XDJ-XZ ?
Hi Teej, still rocking the DDJ1000, I’ve had a play with the opus, very impressive but, I’m so used to the 1000 I guess I’ll change when it dies, all the best bro, Mark.
The 1000 is a top controller mate. Hope your well.
I could see why the portability would be an issue. But it’s such a pretty kit that you could get away with out booth
Yeah it is real eye candy. The guests at any function love seeing it
@@diaryofadj can you share how you set yours up at an event? I’m curious now. Maybe I’ll just sell my CDJs and mixer and get an opus.
Yeah my videos sort of show it. I have a custom booth that’s built to show it off 👍
@@diaryofadjbruhhhh, this machine is awesome. Are you still using it? I got the soft case with wheels for it
Picked back up ok DJing around the time this was released using the DDJ SB3. The only problem i have is the channel 1 fader has a volume issue when put all the way up. Upgrading to a numark NVII soon
Ok so your leaving pioneer that’s interesting. Will you still be using rekordbox?
The SB3 is a bit clunky tbh. Not sure numark is the direction I would go but…to each their own.
Never used an SB3
I’m getting a little tired of Denon which is a shame. However the one thing I couldn’t give up is being able to stream from tidal, sound cloud, etc. and also the internal ssd drive in the prime is also epic. But that screen looks something else. I can’t believe pioneer haven’t caught up with this yet.
Yeah there’s a few things lacking… the space for internal SSD is a shame and I’ve heard streaming is coming but it’s taking ages.
Love this style of review mate really good video! I have to say since doing that gig with you, I do like the opus alot more!
Thanks Craig. This is the style of review we will do more of as it’s way easier to shoot and talk in a controlled environment then get footage when on a gig. Thanks buddy. Do you think you’ll ever get an opus
@diaryofadj that's cool man! And to be honest I don't think I could lose the laptop. But I do love the standalone idea 💡
Fair play mate. Everyone’s different. That’s the beauty of it 👍
Good video, I love the design of the opus quad and not depending on a laptop. What about the feel of the jogs is similar like cdj 800s, 1000, 2000, 3000? Some time ago I loved the CDJ 350 wheels and I read that the XDJ 700 were somewhat similar but I never tried them. I have no idea how the opus quad jogs feel, I hope they feel good because I really like the way they look and their functions.
I love how the jogs feel. You should head to your local DJ shop and take a look
I want one and I will get it. I'm useing a rx3 I have boght 2 Bluetooth resivers and at weddings and party's there a God send for requests. But dam that thing looks like it's dropped from the sky so so cool
Thanks mate. Yeah it’s perfect for what I do. I love it
I don’t like that there are still no streaming Services after almost a year
Seems like he was whispering the whole time 😂
I was… it’s a secret
Et il est super beau !
Why does mine not showing the wave form for each track
Can someone help 🤔
I use the pioneer dj 1000 that's my baby! Luv it it all . But I am ready to up p grade NOW!
Ahh you’ve answered my previous question.
A nice upgrade to the 1000 is the FLX10 but I would highly recomend jumping over to a standalone. Would you use a standalone?
What's your back-up solution if the Opus has a funny 5 minutes?
I carry a pioneer XDJRR with me. If the Opus quad was to fail I would plug in that secondary controller. If that fails, I have an in built mixer on my RCF exox J8 mix that I can use to plug in my iPad and microphone.
Hi T.J. and thank you for sharing this. Are using the "matching" tracks feature on the Opus Quad ? Could you explain how this works ? I realize this is much more complicated than on the Mac Rekordbox version...
No I’m not sure it has that feature built in. I use it on rekordbox if I’m preparing a set but don’t use it live
@@JeffScroggin Thank you Jeff. Now I understand : unlike what happens on the PC version where all matching tracks are shown (depending on BPM, key etc.), only tracks specifically tagged as "matching" are shown on the OQ. 🙏
@@JeffScroggin I'm using the multi-criteria filter to select related tracks. Is this the best way ?
Can it! I never knew that.. how do you get related tracks on the actual unit?
@@JeffScroggin understood. I guess your playlists are precise and short enough for you not to scroll too much
Any issues on the hardware yet?
I treated myself to the Denon SC Lice 4 for my mobile business and its awesome.
What i love
Streaming services are great
4 channels
Its standalone
What i dont like
Screen size, in 4 channel mode it gets cramped
USB slots are a pain to access
Nice thanks for your comment. What I do like about the P4 is there’s a cubby hole for a perminant SSD isn’t there
I almost feel like the two must required things for this controller are a podium and a XP2...
I would love an Xp2 however you need a laptop to run that don’t you… I don’t want to be taking a laptop out with me
Cannot decide between this one, or XZ. Just because I also do have DJS 1000 sampler and it works fully functional with XZ via ProDJ link, and here I'd have to connect via some of the inputs. I want to use the sample and finger drumming buttons on DJS but haven't tried it on Opus Quad so I don't know if it's gonna work okay.
If you have a DJS1000 and it works with the XZ go with that mate
@@diaryofadj thank you for your opinion!
Is there any news on when the 4 stacked waveforms feature is coming?
Hey mate. I have no idea buddy. I have no affiliation with Pioneer 👍
Hi can you please tell me where you got the soft case for the Opus-Quad? I'm in the US- California thanks.
I got it from my local DJ shop in Dorset UK.
MAGMA and UDG do the soft cases so if you type that into Google you will probably find online options.
I'm at a bit of a cross road, I do mobile gigs and club gigs and I also have scored 2 festival gigs this year. I currently use a ddj-1000 but also have access to cdj 3000 and cdj 2000nxs2 when needed. I'm debating whether its worth to keep the 1000 for mobile gigs and get a nxs2 setup or just get an opus quad. Any suggestions?
I would reccomend getting the Opus mate. I absolutely love it.
This needs streaming services like Beatsource, Beatport and Tidal!! What a miss in pioneer!
Aparantly it’s coming. What do you currently use?
@@diaryofadj needs to come soon!! I use DJay app and Serato and Denon
That Djay app is pretty good to be fair. Never used serato or denon so I can’t comment on that
@@diaryofadj stem separation is 🔥🔥
Yeah OQ has no stems. Wish it did
If you had the choice now, would you still buy this unit at the price point is it?
Yes mate. It’s awsum.
Hi! This is probably answered in the video/and or comments but im going to a gig with the opus quad in not too long and need a very spesific yes/no answer. WILL my USB sticks exported with rekordbox as normal (not the newest version) work on this opus?
No, you need to go to Rekordbox, export, settings, devices and check the opus quad setting then export your music 👍
cool controller!
Thanks mate
I have one question would you buy a FLX-10 or XZ because I want to have more connectivity and I don’t know what to choose 😊
Out of those 2 options I would 100% choose the XZ.
Standalone capability is the future mate
Sorry, my English is bad … is it not possible to make a midi rout to change the HotCuet to sample pads ???
I think it probably is… I’ve tried a few times but when I disconnect from the laptop all the work I’ve done is lost
Didn’t like it overall.
The good parts to me are:
- 4 channels
- touch screen pretty good & big
- effects reaction cleaner (eg. Spiral)
The not so great bits? Let’s just say it completely ignores some of the ways and processes professional DJs work when getting used to past Pioneer gears. The way they shift things around position-wise, and also moving a lotta functions to the touch screen. Irks the hell outta me. That and no touch pads too. The design is kinda tacky etc. Too many things. I’d still stick with the XZ or RX3.
And let’s not even go to that whole Library Plus thing. If you’re on older Rekordbox versions you can’t play on Opus at all.
I had the opus quad, it’s massive, the fx position is clunky, no stems(already outdated), the platters are not very grippy.
I have traded it for a rev 7 for weddings and events and a mixtrack pro go.
In the studio
Djm S11
Plx 12s or cdj 3000
Fair play. Your the first person I’ve known to return it. How do you find the Rev 7?
Is it fine to buy one now or wait maybe they will release a new one?🤔
Yeah mate. This hasn’t been out long. Just less than a year
What's the standalone streaming services like?
I don’t think the OQ has streaming yet
Will be amazing once it does then
Yeah. 👍
Have you ever recorded a set on the opas?
No I haven’t recorded a set but I have gone live whilst using it.
dis you have any USB issues?
No. I haven’t had any ISB issues
🎧👌😊
I use a Denon prime 4, I love it apart from the effects which are pretty poor compared to pioneer
I’ve herd mixed reviews about the denon prime 4. In my latest video of djs discuss.. Jon tells us how he’s had problems with his
i own a FLX10 best controller in the world...
It’s a standalone unit. What you on about size for. That is rather small. It’s one unit. You don’t have to carry three decks and a mixer around anymore. Those sample pads from previous generations are so two year old and the hot cues are perfect. In size , look and position.
This is one of the biggest controller.. standalone or not that pioneer offer and size is a huge consideration when mobile DJs are buying one. Thats why I mention it. The RX3, RX2 and RR are all standalones and are a lot smaller and lighter than this model.
I get the impression that this video pissed you off… am I right?
@@diaryofadj mobile DJs use speakers 4 times the size of that unit. Who cares about the size.
Fair enough
@@diaryofadj 😂👍🏼
👍
Your complaints are so dumb. Bluetooth mate? The size? Bigger the better, looks better to the crowd. Unless you’re a wedding playlist player, your complaints are dumb.
The most valid complaint is the things kinda ugly. Weird angles. I’m still buying though
But yea Bluetooth. Come on mate , cut it out. Bluetooth and dj shouldn’t be 1000 miles near each other
You don’t know nothing you love to talk
That’s a double negative… if I don’t know nothing… I know something. Cheers Michael 😀
lol this feels personal... or maybe michael is just having a bad day. never mind the haters, you doin great bro
Thanks mateb
