American baritone THOMAS MEGLIORANZA is of Thai, Italian, and Polish heritage. He was born in Manhattan, grew up in New Jersey, and graduated from Grinnell College and Eastman. He has been a winner of the Walter W. Naumburg, Concert Artists Guild, Franz Schubert/Music of Modernity, and Joy In Singing competitions. He is a famously flexible and insightful interpreter of older repertoire and a committed champion of serious music throughout history. The Philadelphia Inquirer named his "Songs from the WWI Era" program as one of the Top Ten Best Classical Performances of the Year. His discography encompasses four acclaimed albums of Schubert Lieder and French mélodies with pianist Reiko Uchida, songs of Virgil Thomson with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and Bach cantatas with the Taverner Consort. His appearances with the National Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, MET Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Les Violons du Roy, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra have elicted characterizations such as "an “immaculate and inventive recitalist" (New Yorker). He collaborates with such period instrument ensembles as the American Bach Soloists, Philharmonia Baroque, Portland Baroque, New York Collegium, and Apollo's Fire. His penetrating understanding and deep interpretive powers magnificently complement the numerous opera roles he has been invited to take on.
