As well as Count Grishnackh aka Varg Vikernes and his project Burzum and Uruk-Hai. Amon Düül, Cirith Ungol, Cirith Gorgor, Isengard, Gandalf, to name a few.
The whole "corpses" album is amazing and well worth listening to the entire thing. It is a concept album, telling the story of 7 ghosts and circumstances about their deaths.
Bitte toitet mich is one of my favorite songs ever made. Its so thematically ruthless. Right up there with acranias susceptible to retinal based reprogramibility as far as best songs ever made IMO

I have an ink of their logo on my right upper arm, it's my first tattoo and i got it when I was 18 I'm 25 now and I still love it so fuckin' much. They're really nice, Dennis(Seregor) even gave me some advice on some of the writings i'm working on! I needed an outside view on a small piece I was writing at the time, so I figured to just ask him because at the time he was a huge lyrical inspiration to me. And he kindly responded, gave me some advice, some changes to maybe apply and it just improved the whole. It's not released yet, but it really gave me a clearer view how to approach writing. For that i'm really grateful. Also, for any fans reading this. A couple days ago, Clemens(Ardek) Wijers posted a picture on his social media, it was a picture of papers, and something vaguely confirming new Carach Angren. Now, knowing these grand masters of horror, I personally would love to hear how they evolved after their breakup with original drummer Ivo(Namtar) I know they've been touring for quite some time, and ofcourse I frequently see Ardek releasing other stuff. So they ofcourse have been busy. Please take note that these are just personal suspicions, but I hope they're aiming for a Halloween release. Then again, an album takes quite some time to write/record/mix/master/release. Nonetheless, a new Carach Angren record is presumably on it's way.

Their first album Lammendam was about a story of a Dutch ghost named Le Madame Blanche. Their second was about The Flying Dutchman. This album & the other two after it are stories written by the band themselves. Mainly Seregor (frontman), I think. Not too sure. So, this isn't a true story. But yeah, all the albums tell a story the entire way through, I'm pretty sure. Especially this one.
Btw, for other Symphonic bands: Fleshgod Apocalypse (minus the first album. It's just straight tech death) Turisas - They're like symphonic folk, I guess. ReVamp - Floor Jansen's solo band Ex Deo - the guys from Kataklysm. It's a bunch of Ancient Rome-sounding stuff. Blind Guardian - A lot of the songs on the later albums are very symphonic. Advent Sorrow - But, it HAS to be something from their very first EP: Before The Dimming Light. Or the Like A Moth To The Flame single. Because they drastically changed their sound after that from Symphonic Blackened Death Metal to extremely rough, low production, lo-fi Black Metal. They're a hard listen now.

Almost all of Carach Angrens songs are stories. The guys pick a overarching theme, and then write stories about it or take influence from lore, or horror stories, and then turn them into songs with full plot. They're the best at what they do. Very talented dudes

I saw this band last October in Kansas City where they were headlining with Wolfheart and Mors Principium Est, and they were so surreal to see live. Absolutely tied for top favorite with Avatar. They are just so fucking good.
OMG guys when I saw this notification on my phone I jumped up and ran to the computer haha. Carach Angren RULES. I just saw them live a week ago and they kill. The frontman, Seregor is the most energetic frontman/entertainer I've ever seen. The intensity he brings to the stage, even when only like 40-50 people showed up (really, South Carolina, really?) gave me chills.
This is one of my favorite black metal songs ever, as a marching band, jazz, and classical musician in highschool as well as a huge metalhead, this absolutely gets me going. Pure goosebumps every time I hear it.

I love this band so much, each of their albums is a book, each song is a chapter in that book. They all tell horror stories, and they're utterly brilliant. My personal favorite album is "Death Came Through a Phantom Ship", but this album is a close second "Charles Francis Coghlan" is another song of theirs that features a beautiful instrumentation
Great band. Found about them when they first started, thanks to the GREATEST METALHEAD OF ALL TIME, Ed Veter, who is of course, Infidelamsterdam. They sure made a long way since then.
The cool thing about Carach Angren is that while they are generally considered black metal, they don't really write about the Devil. They're more of a horror genre. Each of their albums have different themes and this album is about 7 spectres of war. So you could easily listen to each song and not be confused. I am also a fan of their corpse paint because for them, its about faces of ghosts. They're also super nice dudes.

I was lucky enough to see these guys live here in Oregon 3 years ago. We bought this album at the show and listened to it over and over on the drive home through the snowy Cascade Mountain Range of Central Oregon it was beautiful. The guys were super nice and the only band that came and hung out with us after their set. Listening to this brought tears to my eyes from the incredible memories tied to it. The entire album is a story of different soldiers and it is beautifully tragic so emotional and entrancing. Listen to the whole album you will enjoy it as much as you did the one song. This was a very special episode for me thank you so much. You two are amazing!!

I´ve been recommending this band since day 1 in this channel (and others)...you made me happy :-) (also because you liked it). Some quick info: keyboardist writes the music (he is trained in cinematic orchestration and composes music for short films and other bands), his brother plays drums and the singer writes the lirics and records guitars (and also does the artwork). They have live musicians so that the singer can put his show freely onstage (and he really does!). Great band, great people. Check more songs from them, you will love them :-)

So happy to see this song done! A little extra back story if interested: people claim this song is influenced by Soviet composer Mikhail Goldstein. A quick Google search shows some interesting parallels between he and the character in this song. Mikhail went to the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942, playing his violin over the loudspeakers, even playing German music for the troops. Carach Angren takes the story many steps further, as demonstrated by the violinist's suicide, but the theory seems defend-able that the song was influenced by Mikhail. In addition, I personally believe it to be erroneous classifying Carach Angren as black metal. As far as I'm aware, none of their songs fit into the original black metal framework. Most relevant would be the anti-Christian sentiment of black metal. Carach composes music similar to horror films: bizarre, dark stories with great music. Furthering this claim, their records are concept albums. Some parts of their music, even in this song, such as the violinist incapable of sin along with his "heavenly" gift seem contrary to the atheistic characteristic of classic black metal. Others may disagree, but that's how I see this band. Anyway, great band and super happy to see it on your channel. I don't normally comment but considering I already have, I would like to suggest Infant Annihilator - Behold the Kingdom of the Wretched Undying. Very long, religiously fueled narrative. Carach Angren is all about concept albums with stories. And this album is probably the highlight of their career. Later albums are not as good but they are still great and they are brilliant musicians. Great band that I would die to see live one day.

I love this band so much, each of their albums is a book, each song is a chapter in that book. They all tell horror stories, and they're utterly brilliant. My personal favorite album is "Death Came Through a Phantom Ship", but this album is a close second
"Charles Francis Coghlan" is another song of theirs that features a beautiful instrumentation

Great band. Found about them when they first started, thanks to the GREATEST METALHEAD OF ALL TIME, Ed Veter, who is of course, Infidelamsterdam. They sure made a long way since then.
The cool thing about Carach Angren is that while they are generally considered black metal, they don't really write about the Devil. They're more of a horror genre. Each of their albums have different themes and this album is about 7 spectres of war. So you could easily listen to each song and not be confused. I am also a fan of their corpse paint because for them, its about faces of ghosts. They're also super nice dudes.
Great band!! So glad you guys did a song from them. 2 other amazing songs by Carach Angren are Bloodstains on the Captains Log and When Crows Tick on Windows. You won't be disappointed!

Finally, it's starting to become apparent that yall enjoy symphonic and Gothic stuff the most.
I was lucky enough to see these guys live here in Oregon 3 years ago. We bought this album at the show and listened to it over and over on the drive home through the snowy Cascade Mountain Range of Central Oregon it was beautiful. The guys were super nice and the only band that came and hung out with us after their set. Listening to this brought tears to my eyes from the incredible memories tied to it. The entire album is a story of different soldiers and it is beautifully tragic so emotional and entrancing. Listen to the whole album you will enjoy it as much as you did the one song. This was a very special episode for me thank you so much. You two are amazing!!

This is a new listen for me and I have already picked up two of their albums to listen to on the road this week. I like what I heard. Very talented band and I enjoyed the story aspect. Great reaction as usual.
Unlike almost all pop and rock music black metal tend to use 3/3 (i.e. a waltz) time signatures a lot, I think it really works

The symphony parts in the song were all written by guitarist Michael Romeo and done on Pro-Tools, there isn't really any 'real' orchestra instuments on it. But you'd never know by listening to it...
I´ve been recommending this band since day 1 in this channel (and others)...you made me happy :-) (also because you liked it).
Some quick info: keyboardist writes the music (he is trained in cinematic orchestration and composes music for short films and other bands), his brother plays drums and the singer writes the lirics and records guitars (and also does the artwork). They have live musicians so that the singer can put his show freely onstage (and he really does!). Great band, great people.

So happy to see this song done! A little extra back story if interested: people claim this song is influenced by Soviet composer Mikhail Goldstein. A quick Google search shows some interesting parallels between he and the character in this song. Mikhail went to the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942, playing his violin over the loudspeakers, even playing German music for the troops. Carach Angren takes the story many steps further, as demonstrated by the violinist's suicide, but the theory seems defend-able that the song was influenced by Mikhail.
In addition, I personally believe it to be erroneous classifying Carach Angren as black metal. As far as I'm aware, none of their songs fit into the original black metal framework. Most relevant would be the anti-Christian sentiment of black metal. Carach composes music similar to horror films: bizarre, dark stories with great music. Furthering this claim, their records are concept albums. Some parts of their music, even in this song, such as the violinist incapable of sin along with his "heavenly" gift seem contrary to the atheistic characteristic of classic black metal. Others may disagree, but that's how I see this band. Anyway, great band and super happy to see it on your channel.

Carach Angren is all about concept albums with stories. And this album is probably the highlight of their career. Later albums are not as good but they are still great and they are brilliant musicians. Great band that I would die to see live one day.
