I'm still using a 5d mk IV, and the solution you show here is the SLOWEST on earth. So I use the LR function to shoot tethered, here also the photos are stored on camera an on the computer. I guess you mentioned this solution because the mirrorless cameras are not supportet yet in LR? Just let me know, would be an interesting information before an upgrade (but tbh my 5dIV works so well…) thanks for that option, it's always good to know the ways that don't work that well!
Thanks Scott! I have been tethering for 10+ years . Just updated my M1 mac to Ventura and bought a R6 mkii and was struggling on my tether with LR and Canon site has no drivers on the R6 mkii page for EOS utility - so you have to go to R6 page and like you said IOS 12 . This was a godsend ... great timing! I used to use this type of setup early on and totally forgot about it! Thanks again.
Thanks for posting this! I learned a lot as a tethering newbie! I believe the new LRC update natively supports Canon cameras on Apple silicon? It is a very recent update (Version 12.1) and you do not need the clunky Canon utility app! I just tried it on my M1 MacBook and it worked flawlessly! Cheers!
I think it's pathetic that I just bought a Canon R8 and was not informed beforehand that it cannot be used with Lightroom natively for tethering. I was thinking about selling it to buy the Canon R6 ii but it's still not updated!!! Cameras that are already over half a year old, and the drivers are not available yet!! I'll give it a try to your workaround, thanks for sharing. Regards from Mallorca!
I use this techniqure for tabletop photography, the combination of EOS utility and lingroom works well. Note you can also transfer the images in EOS utility using WIFI, which gets rid of cables. It's much slower but convineint
With eos r utility turned on or off Lightroom says "Camera not detected" for R6 M2. (lightroom 12.1, latest eos r utility that works with camera, thether cable, mac m1 montreray os ). I tried everything you said in the video. Do you have any more ideas what is going on? Thank you
Hi i am trying to shoot tether and somehow, after shooting a lot it just doesn't allow me to shoot tether anymore or just let me shoot not over then 20 pictures and i need to change session each time. I am working with canon 5D mark 3 and using lightroom classic. Also somehow i cannot have a live view on my computer. I would love to know why :) thanks.
Can you post a link to the software on the Canon site you are referring to, specifically? I have updated to Ventura but am not sure which software you mean under the MAC OS 12 options. Is it the firmware update for my specific camera model? Thanks
Hello, could you please advice me how to connect my canon 5DS with capture one via tether? I connect the tether cable but nothing comes up, I tried to find the communication button in my canon but I could not find it. Would you be able to help me please?
I want to connect my EOS R to android tablet S8 ultra ; to use it as a monitor for my cam . how can I get the best quality 4k results?? And do u recommend a specific Vedio capture card ???
Hello I am new to your TH-cam. I live in Windsor Ontario. I have a R6 mark 2. When i take a picture with my camera it creates a folder with todays date on it in the watch folder, because it is being created in my watch folder I am assuming why my Lightroom is having issues. did you ever come across. Do you have any suggestions. I bought a tether cord for the first time today and I am disappointed it won’t tether.
Hi Ryan, yes, make sure your camera isn't creating folders by itself. There's a setting in the tether software that I believe will create folders by date as well - LR can't see the folders. Make sure this is all turned off.
hi i have a canon R8 and trying to connect to the ipad capture one app but after connect with the cable if seen cant detect the camera? is their any setting on the camera that need to set for the camera can be detected? i tried to connect it to a pc and lightroom too and the lightroom cant detect it but the pc can detect and show it storage files
Hi, I don't get an option to save to both camera and computer? Using Windows 11 and R6MII with EOS v 3.17. Wondering if I should go back to an older version of the EOS utility. Thoughts?
This should work for all cameras not supported for tethering by LrC but which can be tethered. Like my Olympus cameras. Thank you. BTW The EOS utility seems to pop up every time I insert a memory card for any of my cameras.
@@scottlawrencephoto Probably, but Canon is my past, not my future. I have a Lumix S1R and adaptor to use my most important Canon lenses, and I'm using micro four thirds for the rest. I need ro run OM Systems software, and to be able to get from there to LrC (or perhaps Ps, but that 'won't have to give a live viewing of what I am doing.)
I have a question, I have my live view on a 2nd monitor. It seems I have to click the live view button after each exposure, but that resets the live view screen to my primary monitor. how do you fix this and keep the live view window fixed to the 2nd monitor... is this a Mac problem??
The live view settings and behavior varies by camera. Some can have quirks in my experience. DSLRs can be tricky to use with live view as well (as opposed to mirrorless cameras). I doubt it's a Mac problem.
Pretty crazy that we cant tether without a complicated workaround. This solution doesnt play nice with Apple silicon. I have a $3k laptop. $2800 lens. $2600 camera which brings me close to $10k and I cant tether. WTH.
I'm pretty frustrated that there isn't direct cable tether support for the R6II in Lightroom yet. I've set up this system just now, and it works, but it's far slower than a wired connection, and there's so many more things that need to be set up just right to make it all work. I also feel it's more of a headache to set up the data management for every session. I hope that support gets added soon.
I am using 5D Mk IV and get into trouble with cable tehtering directly through LrC to PC. Short cable work great when tethering to LrC. However, very unstable with 15ft cable. The camera always switches between tethering mode and file transfering(PC) mode. LrC just always stop and crash. I have updated the camera firmware, but problem not solved. The method in this video solved the tethering problem in PC with long cable. In addition, with EOS Ultility as a connection agent, I can use WiFi tethering as well. Though a bit slow but at least it is stable and workable. By the way, anyone here have the same problem like me when using long cable tethering with LrC?
Thanks for showing your technique, Scott! However it will be more fast and simple to shoot tethered with cable. We'll wait for Adobe to update this issue. I have no problems with my Canon R6 and 5D Mk IV. Cheers!
You said some critical things to do but completely failed to mention how to do them! 1. Setting the EOS Utility app to record to both computer and sd card. 2. Stopping EOS Utility from autostarting when you connect camera. Think you needed way less talking and much more demonstrating.
@ I apologise for my comment was frustrated because the explanation itself was just to quick for me (some steps were missing for me…) it turned out that for some reason the pictures cannot been sent via usb cable to the application on my MacBook including the tethered tool cable but via wlan it’s possible and than also to import them automatically to LR. Just kinda slow the transfer…Also ChatGPT couldn’t find the solution. Anyways I’m sorry and please keep on making videos :)
What's your favorite tethering solution?

THANK YOU for posting this! As of right now Lightroom can't tether/connect directly with the Canon R6II so this video with EOS Utility helped so much!
Glad it helped you!
You Sir are a Lifesaver !!! Thanks a lot for this video
This just saved the day - thank you!
Thanks so much for this! I had no idea this was a solution.
I was having trouble tethering directly on lightroom, and this helps a lot.
Great to hear!
thanks dude, this helped a lot. I can't fine the IMAGE SAVE LOCATION menu within Eos Utility, and would love to access that

Scott thank you. Very helpful. Question: Is there a live view option with wireless tethering?
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure about the live view in wireless tethering.
Thank you for this! I've been struggling to make rosetta mode work and it was so frustrating. This worked great.
Glad it helped. It shouldn't be this complicated!

Thanks for watching, I think the LR update came out the day I released the video!
Great tutorial. Can you do the same with videos?
Thanks, the tethering app should work for video but I haven't tried it.
Is the chord necessary?? I have many c type chords is why i ask..
Yes, a cable is best. But the wireless options are getting better.

Haven’t tried tethering directly into Lightroom in awhile, but it might be worth trying. The tether support does seem to lag. Frustrating, I know.
bro show me how to do it and then share your four-minute opinion
same thought exactly

Make sure you have Version 3.16.1 of the Camera Utility software. Also, make sure any SD cards in the camera are empty. Let me know!

I’m not very familiar with the Canon DSLRs when it comes to tethering. My guess is support might be limited. You might want to try Capture One.
I don’t see eos utility for Mac os 14??
Can you post a link to the software on the Canon site you are referring to, specifically? I have updated to Ventura but am not sure which software you mean under the MAC OS 12 options. Is it the firmware update for my specific camera model? Thanks

My auto enable never brings the photo in and just moves the photo to another folder. Any solution?
Maybe double check the import settings.

John, you should be able to change the preferences so the utility doesn't automatically pop up.

I agree. Shouldn’t be this hard. Lightroom is cooperating with Apple at the moment.
Checking in to say its still not fixed! @@scottlawrencephoto
Just realized that the utility isnt working on my mac because it auto updated to Sonoma and the utility isnt compatible. UGGGGGGGG.
Keep an eye on Canon's website, they're always behind the curve on these things, sadly.

Yes, there's a lot of room for improvement. I hope Canon is working on it.
Funny enough Im dumping the r6mii because of it. I think Canon and LR forgot about this camera.

This is not 100% right, the utility tool dose not work on m2 ventura
And on lightroom it work fine
It may be time for an update to this video.
Does tether with LR works now with the R6 mark ii ??
