thanks very helpful. my compass seems to be stuck on the course option rather than the standard compass. how do I get the normal compass back? restore didn't work either.
Thanks for your video.. Its help me to understand about gps compass before i buy it. Now i a bit confuse, which models i want to buy.. 22x or 32x.. What your opinion, 22x or 32x, which one worth?
Hi! Can you help me? The compass needle (green) drawing on my etrex30x does not appear. I've already reset it to the factory and it remains without the needle. Is there any configuration for this? Thank you and wait.
Does the eTrex 32x compass point to true north or the magnetic north. I would guess it would point true north but it matches the magnetic north direction of my Silva magnetic compass.
Hi, Jim!. Jim here. Somehow my compass on my 22x isn't N at the top. It is at the bottom and off to the left a bit, did I screw it up somehow? Can I fix it? These gadgets are confusing at times. Thank you. Great video!
@@AvoidingChores Thank you for getting back to me, 🙂no, it did nothing. There are True, Magnetic, Grid, and User. I had put it on Magnetic once thinking it would work like a regular compass. It doesn't seem to want to change. I even restored defaults. I have North up on the map page. Oh well, I have a regular compass, and it shows on the map page the waypoint I want to go to. I certainly appreciate you trying to help.
I won't be doing this topic since the 22x doesn't have those sensors, however check my garmin playlist I may have covered this topic on other devices. The screens are identical so it won't be a stretch. If not, let me know what you are looking for and I can cover it on my Montana 700 playlist.
thank you! do you have any experience with putting tiff files from usda forest service grid maps into etrex? I found on a forum that you can write a bit of code onto the picture file which allows your gps to put the map at the correct coordinates. I like your videos!
It sounds like image overlay how I used to do in google earth and export the kmz. But haven’t had much need to do that in ages. But the code method you describe sound interesting
The difference between the two are the ABC sensors on a in the 32x and not on the 22x. Based on usage you might need the electronic compass or if you are mounting on a bike it’s not as important once you get moving
Jim You made my day. I have been going crazy trying to get the bearing in numerical degrees on the 32x. Thanks to you I have it.
Ken
Thanks Jim, your channel is teaching me well.
Glad the videos are useful!
Well done thanks. It’s so helpful and your explanations are simple and direct. 😁
Glad it was helpful!

How does etrex show you which way to turn while navigating a route ? How can you have teh compass visible with the map route to show turn left /right?

When on the compass page while navigating , try menu - compass settings - North reference - set to true. That should help

Will you be doing a video chapter on the Altimeter/Barometer functions of this unit?

bir koordinat aradığımızda , garmin etrex 22 , kaç metre hata payı ile buluyor ???
So if it doesnt auto-update like the 32x, what purpose does this version have? I am trying to figure out which to purchase right now :)

👍
So you can not use your compass to navigate on the 22x??
🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
You can but the 22x does not have electronic compass, meaning that you need to be moving in order for the compass to display your direction of travel.
@@AvoidingChores thank you for such a quick reply!
I must be thick . I think I’ll just stick to my paper map and compass
