What I have found out is the the Meriva Calfskin 52 and 62 is Royal
Jongbloed and the Highland Goatskin 53 and 63 is Royal Jongbloed for printing but Charfleet for the binding.
I know that Charfleet is the worst. They had too many complaints. This new one reads "Allan Binding by Royal Jongbloed". I was relieved when I saw that. I had bad experiences with Charfleet. I sent a pointed letter to Allan. Their response was promising. They kept their word.
I have that same shirt.

I had three great Charfleets. The Ludlow I had was plastic feeling
Charfleet had many issues; but the cost is much higher with Jongbloed. I have to believe that RL Allan was only trying to be cost efficient.
From what I've noticed Allan uses Charfleet specifically for highland goatskin binds. Jongbloed is the majority though. Chant for other binds like speckled page edges. It would be great if Jongbloed would do the highland binds.

Me also. I do not care for Charfleet and also wish Jongbloed would work with Highland Goatskin. I’ve had issues lately with Allan sending full priced bibles with cosmetic defects on 2 consecutive bibles purchase this year & shoddy binding on one of the 2. It is deceitful to sell bibles of all things, at full price when you know your premium Bibles from a particular bindery often come with defects. Recently Allan has finally been discounting all their Highland goatskin, Charfleet bound KJV bibles due to “marks” and gilding issues. I respect Allan’s decision to disclose the info up front to their customers and offer a small discount for these less than perfect $250-300 premium bibles. I am curious though why Allan dropped the name of the Bindery in the written description section of each Allan KJV bible when only a few short months ago they would disclose if at least Royal Jongbloed was the Bindery. I sure hope Jongbloed is going to continue to bind Allan bibles! 😱
More bold would MAKE LOTS OF FONTS MORE READABLE. LIKE CAMBRIDGE FONT.

Yes, Lockman does have a single column/side column reference edition.
BASED ON YOUR GOOD RECOMMENDATION I MAY VENTURE INTO R.L.ALLAN. BEAUTIFUL. WHICH AND WHAT FONT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
They will most likely be the same, if you get a KJV. It also depends on which type of Bible you purchase. The longprimer is usually 10 point, and bold. If you get a Breveir Clarendon, it is only a 7 point type. They have different styles and font sizes. Look thru them and then make the choice that best suits your need.
Someone told me some of the Allan bibles do not include italics in their KJVs. Does this one lack italics also? Hebrews 2:16 is a good quick check if you don't mind. If you don't see italics there that's my answer
I do not have an Allan here to examine. As for italics, I read the New Testament in Greek. Italics really have no meaning to me. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
PB, I am thinking of trying to save up for a premium wide margin. At the moment I have my sights on Cambridge and Allan. I think Allan looks much prettier especially the Allan KJV Brevier Clarendon Wide Margin Black Goatskin SILVER LINE EDITION. Upon watching review videos people are showing the text block as missing ink in different places (text, center column, etc.) due to whatever reason and I am wondering if you encountered it with your purple Allan. I know I can't go wrong with Cambridge but this Allan is gorgeous and the paper is 45 GSM which is awesome. What are your thoughts? They are not Charfleet as far as I know.
If you are looking for a good wide margin, the KJV Cambridge Concord WM is the best. The Allan had no print defects. Only the Charfleet printings were bad. Go for a Concord.

I was just really hoping to try out someone new and I'm not sure if you seen the new Silver Line Edition from Allan, man they're gorgeous. Plus the GSM is a whopping 45. But yeah, if the text is bad, what's the point right? Thanks for your thoughts. I wish Cambridge would add more colors to the WM. I guess it's not popular enough to warrant it. DOESNT ALLAN JUST BUY TEXT BLOCKS AND JUST REBIND. THEM? I have something FROM TRINITARIAN BIBLE IN MERIVA CALFSKIN . MAYBE LP W NOTES ..
So far as I have seen, Allan gets permission to rebind specific text blocks.

Only problem is the NRSV...gender neutral. Bad translation. The RSV is not gender neutral, but it is a Modern Critical Text translation. If you want to read a solid MCT translation, the NASB 77 is the best (imo). Thanks for the comment.
I agree Charfleet bound bibles are terrible. I’ll not ever buy another. The 53 KJV Highland Goatskin I got less than a year ago has to be handled with extreme care because the spine is so weak, the block moves all over the place. It really needs to be rebound. I ordered this purple 62, but the UK Royal Post was attacked by Russian hackers which shut down all international parcel shipping for unknown period of time. Allan is offering 1/2 price $37 per bible for Fed Ex shipping atm. I’ll be so glad to get this purple calfskin 62!
