    This shaft is no longer available to explore. The entrance has been barred in hopes that bat species will return. 😀

    Well THIS was a surprise!!! If you came in on the access road from the Lisbon/Lyman road, you literally went beside where I was born & raised. My Uncle, Robert Poor and my Dad, William, own 2 houses directly across from that access road. This mine originally was a gold mine, and as such, yielded a fair amount of gold. At the far end of this shaft, the vein of gold "disappeared" and no one was able to find it again. After that, my Uncle Bob helped the National Geological Survey crews install a seismograph at shafts' end. He was hired to go inside daily to change the graph paper and then weekly mail those graph papers to New York to the main office. He was paid well for doing this. That instrument was so sensitive that it could pick up seismic vibrations from Russia when they tested an atomic bomb. Watching this brought back some good memories!!!!!!

      I have been in a number of abandoned mines in N.H, the shafts can be quite dangerous.

    It would have been nice to sample that hard rock in there with a Falcon MD20. I have gotten some gold in Lyman, splinter size and micro.

    great video, just curious what camera settings you used during this video? were you in full auto mode? did you have low lux on?

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was full auto. The camera was the Canon HF G30 though. We didn't have the Sony HDR-CX430V with us for this shoot.

    Is this near copper mine road ?

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It on the other side, off Under the Mountain Rd.

  • @AppalachianProspect
    @AppalachianProspect 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool, do you know how much copper that was mined from this location?

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, sorry, I don't have that information, but I believe we have located the second shaft. We hope to go and check it out this week. Stayed tuned. :)

    • @AppalachianProspect
      @AppalachianProspect 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is ok, I may be able to find that information from USGS. But anyway I thought you already located the second shaft, the one that was vertical. I will be looking forward to the video.

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are now thinking that the vertical one may be a rear entrance to the one we went in. There is another shaft near the area that may be shaft 2. We have looked at the USGS for the mine locations, but the coordinates they have are not near the 2 shafts we now know about. We checked one of their coordinates last time and there was nothing there.

    Now that looks cool! Thanks for sharing it! Were you able to drive right up to the mine shafts, or did you have to hike a ways to get to them?

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't drive to them, we had to hike out to them, it was about a 45 minute hike to the openings. Plus they are not close to each other either. We agree though, it was a cool find. :)

    Hello. I finally found the big “pit” shaft after reading about the place for years. Couldn’t locate the other shafts that you can actually walk into. I heard that one is closed now and another will be barred this year. I’m thinking about taking another walk up there tomorrow and was wondering if you could provide me with some directions/location of these other shafts in relation to the pit. Please DM or email me. Thanks a lot!

      @WeRmudfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry we are traveling on the road in our RV and are down south. All my info is in a storage unit in NH. The first one that we went to is accessible by trail, but that is the one that is barred off. One of the other ones is a bushwhack. The third one is located further down the street, that we drove to then hiked/bushwhacked too. Without my notes, that's about the best I can give you, we haven't been out there in a while. Good Luck!
