    George really hit a home run with his debut solo album. His voice was in top form, and his songwriting had blossomed to perfection by time the Beatles broke up. He was only 27 years old!

      @@popgardenradio All things must pass is the first album he sings his songs on. The Wonderwall album was a soundtrack, and Electronic Sounds was experimentation with a moog synthesizer. He didn't promote or release any songs from those albums. I don't consider Two Virgins John Lennon"s first solo album either, though he did it first.

    There's an insanely ethereal, dream-like beauty to "Isn't it a Pity." I am not sure how it was rejected as a Beatles song, but it's undoubtedly one of George's finest moments.

    • @dannordenbrock483
      @dannordenbrock483 3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      The Beatles frankly all loved and appreciated each other. Be glad each blossomed in solo careers. This was better to have NOT been on a Beatles album!

      @@dannordenbrock483 I am not suggesting otherwise. When I talk about it being rejected by other bandmates, it's more out of bewilderment. Before the Let it Be sessions (which saw it rejected), the song was dismissed a couple of years earlier. I believe George was hoping it would be on the White Album. Additionally, Mark Lewisohn says the song dates back to the Revolver sessions, so apparently, George kept presenting the tune and trying to get it passed. It was not a one-and-done.

    Artist of all time George Harrison.

  • @edryba4867
    @edryba4867 3 ปีที่แล้ว +138

    Dear George,
    Just in case the internet reaches wherever you are today, I wanted to write and thank you for all your great music over the years. Those of us who are still here and were lucky enough to share the Earth with you, owe you a debt we can never repay. As Lead Guitar player for The Beatles, you did amazing work. As a solo artist, you reached even higher, in both technique and song writing. YOU are the reason MILLIONS of us learned to play the guitar (to varying degrees). YOU are the reason I play a Gretsch Country Gentleman and a 1963 Rickenbacker 360-12 twelve string today. YOUR inspired playing and soloing style is something those of us you touched, aspire to. The way you could turn a phrase in a song lyric is something we all wish we could do the way you did.
    Few of us reach your level, but it was YOU, who showed us what we should try for. Sure, there have been other guitarists since you, who have shown us their own musical techniques (and please say hi to Eddie Van Halen for us). But if YOU hadn’t been there first, there may not have been Eddie’s guitar artistry. I realize you most likely never intended to start all that you did, but you indeed did. And WE were the beneficiaries of your incredible talent for these things (as well as making lasting friendships among the musicians you’ve played alongside). There is videotaped evidence that my previous statement is true (“A Concert For George”), in which your son Dhani played with a large number of the world’s most famous musicians, and about which your lovely widow (quoted by Paul McCartney), when your wife looked at Dhani, who DOES look a lot like you, then looked at everyone else on stage, said), “It looks like the rest of you got old, while George stayed young!”.
    I suppose what I’m trying to say is simply, Thank You, George, for all the good you did for untold millions of us. NONE OF US will ever be able to properly thank you for it all. Not the people who love your music, not the people of Bangladesh.who are alive today, directly because of your efforts, and certainly not those of us who became musicians after seeing and hearing the seemingly effortless way in which YOU could make music exist where there was nothing before.
    Sincerely,
    Ed Ryba

    This seems such a personal song and his lyrics are spot on which proves the song is timeless. I am 74 and back in 1963 my parents' marriage had finished. I knew nothing of the Beatles as I had been brought up in Africa and only came to England permanently that summer. My mother had rented a house in Birchington, Kent for the summer and my father stayed at a hotel for 2 weeks, probably Margate. He told me a pop group called The Beatles were staying at his hotel and did I know of them. I didn't, but 2 months later I certainly did and fell in love with George immediately. Ringo was too geeky looking, John was too serious and Paul was too baby-faced but George was just dreamy. Where has time gone?❤

    The Beatles were, for sure, a unique and wonderful band. That being said, Paul and John, failed to really look beyond themselves as the heart and soul of the group. Stepping outside the bubble, it’s simply obvious how extremely talented George and Ringo were and are. They were both taken for granted. George’s “Beatles” contributions , were just brilliant, and Ringo is globally regarded by professionals as THE DRUMMER, who inspired them. Let’s not forget his backbeats made every Beatles song what it was.
    Together, there was no band like them, and they continually rewrote the genre. Individually, they created four most memorable separate paths.
    I grew up with them, and they’ll always be my favorite band… thanks to the FAB FOUR for making my day every time I hear any of their songs, whether as a group or on their own..
    I’m especially happy to be able to grow older and still have Ringo and Paul around to make new music, and play the old songs..
    As Ringo so fondly says…
    “Peace and Love”

    • @MrAschiff
      @MrAschiff 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They were not taken for granted. George took a while to develop his songwriting skills. It wasn't until the White Album that George was on the level of John and Paul. They certainly respected his playing, and George helped John write She Said, She Said. Ringo wasn't a writer, but they usually gave him a song to do in every album.

I can't believe this year will be 41 years since John was murdered and 20 since George died. George was the same year as 9/11 and the news was covering 9/11 non-stop but when George died, the news covered that too. That's how much the Beatles mean to us culturally.

      John was very much a great lecturer and showman. I wouldn't go so far as to say he was a conman because he truly believed in the lessons that he preached, but I'd say he certainly was a hypocrite in that he didn't practice what he preached. He was a mysogynist who admitted to being emotionally and physically abusive to women and he also abandoned his first son Julian when he was divorced from his first wife and only left him £100,000 at that time and Julian was left nothing in John's will.
      According to Julian his father told him that his son Sean was conceived in love with Yoko but Sean came out of a whisky bottle. John and Yoko were not nice people but they were excellent teachers and they did promote world peace, even if it was done for self-serving purposes. I'm 62 and I adored both of them for years and I still recognize her talent, but it doesn't make her a decent human being. She isn't. He wasn't.

    I've always considered Isnt It a Pity to be his deepest, humble and most fundamental compostion. The words are simple and the message very clear. It's like being very true to oneself, but understanding we all have faults. This version is so laid back that it almost sends the listener the message subliminally. I'm surprised he didn't include this with the bonus tracks on the redigitalized All Things Must Pass. An absolute masterpiece as this is.

    George was a genius in his own rite. I read recently an interview with his friend Eric Idle, who said something like, "you have no idea how difficult it is to go on stage with John Cleese and Michael Palin." To paraphrase George's reply, "you have no idea what it was like to go into a studio with John Lennon and Paul McCartney." If he'd been in any other group, George would've been the singular star. But as fate and the wheel of karma would have it he was in the Beatles, and while he may never be given the full credit for his contributions, without him the Beatles wouldn't have been as bright a star in the sky of music.

    What I love most about this song is its timelessness. George as a spiritual person understood the foibles of human nature more than most and was seemingly forgiving. His soul lives on

    I love the stories of late bloomers, who take years to learn and master, and then finally, hit a home run with their skills. George's solo career was one such story, and boy was he a genius! Really wish he was here with us physically, though his spirit is much more alive than anything.

The movie is as good as the the trailer. I think Netflix has it also. Tried to find it on utube and elsewhere, but no luck. Looking forward to Pt.1. Back in the 70's a buddy and I drove to Louisiana to see George & Billy Preston right after the Bangladesh Concert. Excellent!

      Hopefully not. Harrison hated that overdone thing, where Roger could get a bit caried away with production. Paul was production, John was good ole Rock and roll , and George very deep. His music was very personal. There are so many of his songs that could have been hits.... Shit we are talking about the guy who took 10 months after All Things Must Pass to release the second and last single, What is life. That why it only hit number 9. An easy 1 if released when MSL was tracking down. Basically he wasn't Paul, with production and John with rock and roll. He wrote about the things that made sence to him...please don't include Blue Jay Way in that 😉.
