Hi everyone, this is a project I've been working on for a while, a mechanical ornithopter based off of 3 major bones of a bird's wing, the radius, ulna, and and metacarpus. This is most likely a part one video, as I am planning to add a body to the mechanism, but am unsure of when it will be complete. Above, you can see that I linked the blueprints, but I did leave out several measurements because the pieces that I cut out myself may not have been identical to them. What matters the most is getting the distance between the holes right.
Additional Notes:
- Make sure you have captions on, they give extra instructions.
- The materials of this project included thin cardboard, corrugated cardboard, popsicle sticks, wire, bamboo skewers, and thread. The thread was only used to reinforce the joints in which the wing parts connected because the popsicle sticks were not long enough.
- I made a mistake when making the gears, and did not take into consideration the placement of the pegs, so they were a little off. I fix them later on the video.
- Why did some areas use wire and others wooden skewers? I have found that skewers work better for cardboard and wire works better for popsicle sticks, so I have tried to use it in areas to make cutting out the pieces easier.
Thanks for stopping by, please leave suggestions or questions if you have any!
