I completely agree and side with Ardyn on this. Nothing worse than the "light" pretending to be good and the righteous one while truthfully being downright evil the whole time. In FFXV, the Lucius Caelum line is Chaotic Good, while Ardyn is Lawful Evil.
Dylan Palton well the entire world was literally against him from the start... the gods betrayed him, his family betrayed him, history forgot him, and to top it off by the start of FF15 everyone hated him regardless... from a philosophical point, why shouldn’t he tear the world asunder since it doesn’t matter one way or another to him... what I’m trying to say is that from his point of view it is justified but it is also justified to stop it him in essence no one here can be faulted except for Somnus and the gods (and maybe aera or whatever her name was)
Uhmmm... No, the Lucis Caelum line is simply Law, and Ardyn is simply Chaos. Bahamut - YHVH Ardyn - Lucifer Somnus - Metatron/Merkabah Noctis - Protagonist
I feel really sorry for Ardyn as a character. He's a villain, yeah, and he causes a lot of pain and destruction on his quest. But I honestly can't even hate him for it. As human beings, we can't even imagine what it would be like to be subjected to 2,000 years of torment, and after being betrayed by those close to us, no less. I don't think you could expect a person to come out of that and NOT be as bitter and hateful as Ardyn. The poor guy deserved a rest. There's only so much a person can take before they break, and he far-exceeded that point, I'm sure. As a side note, I really love how Ardyn and Somnus have this heartbreaking conversation while they're wailing on each other. I feel like it humanizes them --- reminds us at the end of the day, they're still brothers and part reason Ardyn is so hurt and embittered is BECAUSE of that fact. It's the people we love the most who have the power to hurt us the most, and this battle really shows what a rich and complicated history they have together.
This ^. Something that really hit me was Verstael remarking how surprised he'd be if Ardyn hadn't lost all sense of time. Imagine not being able to tell the difference between 7 months and 7 seconds. Solitary confinement for 2000 years would screw anyone up.
Ardyn and Somnus story has me partially think of Cain and Abel, when Cain became jealous of his sibling and chose to kill him for that reason. If only the writers had Ardyn try to tell his story to the world of what Somnus did while also fulfilling his predestined fate, I think that would be interesting to see how other characters would react of knowing the truth.
RareEnigma™ nah, they dont know, everyone of them include noctis, luna and co die as a blind puppet, only ardyn knew truth that the gods use them for their own selfish reason.
hisyam amiruddin I have a feeling that Noctis knew he was being manipulated by the time the game ended. He simply pushed on to save his people. I don't recall him being happy at any point when the gods show up after he comes back. And he didn't try to resist the fate given to him, so I think that Bahamut gave him the same talk he gave Ardyn. As I keep watching bits of the episodes and the main story, I start to really understand ardyn, like his intent and what he wanted, why he did what he did, and why he was fulfilling fate, he’s not a villain to me, he’s just a man with nothing left to loose in life, it was all stolen from him
he is very tragic villain, but he is not anti-hero. There is nothing noble in his actions, he wants to destroy the world to have revenge on all that wronged him humans and gods
Not an anti hero. More like a tragic villain. Sure, he suffered greatly and it may seem like his actions are justified, but they include harming innocents that had nothing to do with his imprisonment and torture. So his actions cannot be justified because he became just like the monster Somnus was in the past.
Poor Ardyn. 😥 He’s been resisting his fate for about 2 Millenia until finally succumbing to it. He wasn’t even allowed to die. He honestly would’ve preferred to die along with his love when Somnus killed her.
It is heavily inplied on the Main Story that Ardyn didn't start out being evil & driven. In the Pocket Edition during Noct's Last Stand with Ardyn he even states that Ardyn was meant to be a Kind & Noble King.
You know when ardyn was released from his prison, he didnt want to kill nor hurt anyone. But the fucking kingsglaive attacked and tried to kill him anyway. So really, everything was lucis, the caelum and the astrals' fault.

Somnus was truly a terrible brother and a hater. Literally destroyed his brother's life, killed his fiancée, and to add insult to injury forced him to go by another name and erase him from existence and he's playing surprised Pikachu he has all that hatred and pent up immense power.
It’s because he knew what his brother would become. The gods consider themselves pure righteous the moment Arden removed the starscourge from people the gods saw as tainted and favored somnus. The gods told somnus what to do and like he said at the end “our line has done everything in our power to protect our people. Just as the gods bade I was merely for filling my calling” what happened to Arden was his own fault and somnus did what he was told to do.
@@hollandjimenez6592 What? Since when is something Arden get it's his own fault? Did we see the same game? Arden even sacrifice himself to be the plague vessel so the world are saved from the scourge. Somnus start making an obnoxious plan to make himself a king instead and try to shut Aera, but his plan somehow become easier because Arden accidentally show his scourge power because of the rage he made after Aera dead in the hand of Somnus, make Arden get jailed instead and erase from history. Also Arden, even after he gets free from the prison by Nilfheim Empire, he still has a patience and doesn't want to did revenge to royal blood at first and still have some reedem quality for not doing insane to destroy the world even after that very long exile. Until... The Lucis Empire, Destiny and a trauma force him to become one, especially when the God Bahamut start talking about some bullshit that this is his destiny in the front of him, like this is his duty to be a lord of darkness that who will bring the world eternal night until the second chosen King appear to kill him! I love Ardyn and so glad he got his retribution on Somnus. FFXV lacked this episode so much - I mean.. this should have simply been FFXV and expanded into a more detailed story arc.
I don’t see Somnus as a villain. I see him as a poor misguided tool to be used by the gods bidding. He was tricked into doing what he did so the Bahamut’s plan can go into fruition.
Sommnus was doing his part like the gods said but he definitely enjoying it he showed no regret and even sounded happy when killing that girl He taunts you and hates on you for the whole fight but at the end he goes I was jealous but then said he was doing what he had too. Its hard to tell if he was evil, good, neutral or used by Bahamut
Both Somnus and Ardyn did terrible things, and Somnus could technically be counted as an antagonist, but I like to believe that the real big bad villain of FFXV is Bahamut. Somnus and Ardyn were victims. Their fates weren’t exactly their own :< Also, (based on how I understand the events that happened), FFXV is basically just an entertainment/puppet show for bahamut :// With the whole “everything in this world is pre-ordained.”
I feel like the astral gods are basically Square Enix trying to set up the FFXV story by telling Somnus and Ardyn what to do. Square Enix: *Ardyn is blessed and should be king* *Somnus is commanded to kill Ardyn and become king instead* *Ardyn is bad guy and should be spreading darkness*
I really wished Ardyn would have had the pleasure of following through with His vengeance. To eradicate all of Somnus descendants, to utterly destroy the kingdom of Lucis and forcing his brother to watch as everything he and his descendants built getting turned to ash, thus ruining the gods' o so grand design. No kidding I was really rooting for this dude.
As an anti-monarchist atheist, yeah, I can definitely sympathize with Ardyn's more personal goals... That said, I don't agree with the whole turning-everyone-all-over-the-world-into-deamons-and-ushering-in-an-endless-night part. Like, I understand that he wanted to make his brother and the gods pay, but most of Ardyn's victims were innocents who had, like, nothing to do with their conflict.
@@GrahamChapman to be honest, Ardyn had been screwed over SO many times that he cared very little about "small" things like that, he was a good man, initially horrified that he lost the ability to cure the Starscourge in exchange for the ability to infect others with it... it was only after he learned that he truely was meant to be king that he started to snap... and after Bahamut essentially forced him to be the bad guy, what HE wanted didn't really matter anymore... yes he killed those undeserving of his wrath but then again, so did the so-called Founder King
@@GrahamChapman Agreed! Honestly I hate the Dawn of the Future because the monarchies were a big part of why the world got so screwed up. Ardyn's my favorite character along with Verstael (yeah he's immoral, but he also kills and enslaves freaking gods).
Somnus: "I dare not ask your forgiveness, but I do ask your understanding". Yeah, not In a million years. U still is the most vile person in the entire FF series.
You know, Ardyn is not an totally maniac villain. With me, he is just simply a man who seek what should have belonged to him, and vengeance for the girl he love most. The true purpose of Ardyn is not “World Destruction”; but to end Lucis bloodline, a mere pawn of the god. But what will happen if Somnus and Ardyn join forces, rule together; will that make the future changes? Ardyn can see truth in everything and everyone, he can control darkness and evil in him and can balanced it .He will guide mankind into the age that human is no longer a pawn to the god. He will change the whole Lucis and maybe become the guider of Lucis. But so shame for a bright future...
In this game your where neither good nor bad simply a pawn for the cowardly gods above. Who felt that curing the star scourge was beneath them. So the left it as it was until it became a mild annoyance to them. So they tricked us lowly mortals into a game that we knew not we were apart of. And Ardyn, well he was a pawn that would not be controlled by others will. So he did what only he could do, and strengthen the scourge. He infected many spreading the deamon curse far and wide, even finding the long banished infernion frozen in a deep sleep. He awakens the god and forced him under his thrall, by infecting it too. Yet this was not enough to force the rest of the pantheon onto the board. He had to go further, but first he had to confront the result of his suffering. The kingdom of his brother. He fought and killed on in his wake till he faced his brother. Even he fell before his wrath, and on his knees he pleaded understanding all while justifying his own evil against his Ardyn . "It wasn't my fault, it was the will of the gods calling" before vanishing with hollow words of his wishes of repose for his ardyn. The gods descend but for a moment only to laugh at Ardyn pain. "This my will", the will of behamot your destiny is to die by the kings hands to free the world of your curse". "Why would you need us mortals if your so powerfu"l cried Ardyn surely you had the power to destroy the scourge long before me. Well folks it was a simple answer and not one you likely enjoy. It is beneath us to interfere with the matter of mortals. It is the gods who shape your destiny and life you have no right to question our choices. From that the answer was clear for Ardyn. They could have saved millions of lives but choose instead to allow this mess to be cleaned up my men alone. So Ardyn rejected his fate and turned his blade against Behamot. Angered he summons the spirit of Ardyn lover and forces her to torture Ardyn until he submits. Eventually behamot losses interest and sends him back to his tomb. Ardyn filled with hate and wrath exits his cave vowing to destroy the world to break the game board if it ment destroying the gods themselves. His final acts laid bare over the next decade or so. Wars and strife in constant waves, the spread of beasts and deamons across the land, and his greatest work the manipulation of a Empire to build weapons in his image. "His god killers" who would pull the gods from the heavens and smite them.
Really well-made fights and plot. It's a shame the rest of these episodes and the alternative ending will continue just as a novel. At least, we do get to see it come to life before they move on to another FF I guess
Ardyn transformed into a daemon, and after lamenting his brother had truly become the monster he had made him out to be, Somnus attacked him alongside his sworn shield Gilgamesh. Ardyn sought confirmation on the gods' choice from the Crystal, but was thrown back as the Stone rejected him as unworthy.
The storyline of FF15 is one of the best out of any FF that most people dont even know the half of because they tried to monetize every single aspect of the game so heavily. Had to watch kingsguard and the shitty 4 episode anime they put out just to see the introduction of the game smh 🤦♂️
I wouldn't really say it was them trying to monotize it, rather working with what they had. Yiu gotta remember, Tabata had all of 3 years to develop most of xv from the ground up, so they had to turn to other media to flesh things out. Same with adding the dlc later.
That American Narrator I honestly wish they kept versus xiii because XV was literally “Bahamut screws everyone over and all the Lucian powers get wiped away.” Ardyn just wants his revenge. Everyone “wins” but everyone really just dies even the last Oracle
Saiyaku I haven't really seen the VS XIII trailers (I was nine at the time and just never thought of looking them up,) but I can agree that it could have been a lot more flashy and fast paced. Then again, as someone with bad eyesight, perhaps I should consider this a blessing haha
Disgusting. Somnus was a monster. He just didn’t look it. Just goes to show how many stupid people lived during his reign. It didn’t take much to fool them. Honestly it’s fitting that Noctis died in the end as well. Final nail in Somnus coffin knowing his line completely died out in the end and the world was finally rid of a bunch of false kings set up by the gods for their amusement. The game was good and well thought out by Square but honestly it was so depressing once the truth came out that I refuse to accept Noctis as a protagonist and Ardyn as a villain at all. They both just needed to go.
Sorry I'm usually team hero but gotta side with ardyn on this one y'all screwed him over and the gods as well soooooooo he right to kill his family not the noct but his brother understanding my ass I would have slap him around some more

This is what makes FFXV great! We have two characters: Noctis and Ardyn. Both can be the Hero of the story or the villain. It changes the way we view things when we play the game again.
I always Consider them the *Sora & Xehanort* of this Series. They share many similarities.
@@soralight_x Well, except Xehanort didn't went through crap like Ardyn did. Not to mention his (Xehanort's) actions aren't done out of vengeance and hate, but out of obsession for knowledge and power. So, Ardyn's actions are more justified than Xehanort's. Somnus justified his greed and envy with saving their "people". He truly commited treason, killing both his brother and The Oracle. Somnus is the true monster. It's a pity we didn't get Ardyn corrupting Somnus to a point of no return. That would be satisfying.
Doesn't the Mystic boss in the royal edition part of main game count? Ardyn corrupts him as the pen-ultimate boss.

Exactly! Turn hin into a being left in darkness and ripped of the closure of death, just what had been done to Ardyn, but as well degrading him into some unrecognisable monster. A form fitting to his choices.
In the end, even Somnus was a victim of fate... The astrals are the true villans of the story.
Chase Langlands if you look at it in a way, the entire line of lucis including Ardyn, the oracles and humanity themselves are nothing but pawn in their chessboard like cannon fodder.
Wasn't the Meteor of the Six that brought the Starscourge to Eos, along with the Astrals? It makes it look like both Scourge and Astrals were sealed away together...
The gods weren't stopped by Noctis, so it seems they're free and there's nothing we can do about it.

Also what does emotions and thought worth in this world? The world only answer through force.
I completely agree and side with Ardyn on this. Nothing worse than the "light" pretending to be good and the righteous one while truthfully being downright evil the whole time. In FFXV, the Lucius Caelum line is Chaotic Good, while Ardyn is Lawful Evil.
Not really considering ardyn wants to destroy the whole world purely out of spite.
Dylan Palton well the entire world was literally against him from the start... the gods betrayed him, his family betrayed him, history forgot him, and to top it off by the start of FF15 everyone hated him regardless... from a philosophical point, why shouldn’t he tear the world asunder since it doesn’t matter one way or another to him... what I’m trying to say is that from his point of view it is justified but it is also justified to stop it him in essence no one here can be faulted except for Somnus and the gods (and maybe aera or whatever her name was)
If Ardyn was a Heroic Spirit he’d be an *Avenger.* Somnus would be either a *Saber or Archer.*
Sora Light *I’m totally gonna write about that.*
Specifically Ardyn.
Uhmmm... No, the Lucis Caelum line is simply Law, and Ardyn is simply Chaos.
Bahamut - YHVH
Ardyn - Lucifer
Somnus - Metatron/Merkabah
Noctis - Protagonist

Yeah. They also remind me of Romulus and Remus
At that point, it's just a matter of putting the pieces together.
@@thatamericannarrator8247 by the end, after Ardyn inquires about whether he's going to be "Erased from history once again" Noctis straight up says "This time, you can finally rest in peace"

BaccaratLab I wonder how Ardyn felt when he fought Noct?
@@soralight_x Part of the hate or spite that Ardyn held towards Noct is because he, to some extent, looks like a younger Somnus.
As I keep watching bits of the episodes and the main story, I start to really understand ardyn, like his intent and what he wanted, why he did what he did, and why he was fulfilling fate, he’s not a villain to me, he’s just a man with nothing left to loose in life, it was all stolen from him
First i thought ardyn is evil villain. Now, i think he could be great anti hero.
he is very tragic villain, but he is not anti-hero.

All Because Bahamut Ordered Somnus To
It’s because he knew what his brother would become.
Also no, the plague is not the reason for him turn evil, but Somnus betrayal and by the destiny the God made for him. Arden as we know is the first chosen king by the God, Somnus never was. But because he hear the answer accidentally from the Aera (Arden Fiance, and the Oracle at that time) person who will be chosen by the King is Arden. Ansem: I feel a disturbance in the force
Sommnus was doing his part like the gods said but he definitely enjoying it he showed no regret and even sounded happy when killing that girl
He taunts you and hates on you for the whole fight but at the end he goes I was jealous but then said he was doing what he had too. Its hard to tell if he was evil, good, neutral or used by Bahamut
He was young and very jealous of him, and Bahamut used that to manipulate him. But I think he kinda regretted afterwards, but it was too late.
Both Somnus and Ardyn did terrible things, and Somnus could technically be counted as an antagonist, but I like to believe that the real big bad villain of FFXV is Bahamut. Somnus and Ardyn were victims. Their fates weren’t exactly their own :<
Also, (based on how I understand the events that happened), FFXV is basically just an entertainment/puppet show for bahamut ://
With the whole “everything in this world is pre-ordained.”
I feel like the astral gods are basically Square Enix trying to set up the FFXV story by telling Somnus and Ardyn what to do.
Square Enix:
*Ardyn is blessed and should be king*
*Somnus is commanded to kill Ardyn and become king instead*
*Ardyn is bad guy and should be spreading darkness*
Oh hey, it's the dude from the Audi R8 Star of Lucis commercial.
God damn i just love the finishing blow Ardyn does
I really wished Ardyn would have had the pleasure of following through with His vengeance.

They are like the fal'cies of ffxiii, and bahamut is like bhunivelze

Really well-made fights and plot. It's a shame the rest of these episodes and the alternative ending will continue just as a novel. At least, we do get to see it come to life before they move on to another FF I guess
The game looks good but the dialogue started to feel awkward when Somnus began to have this lousy pity party for himself...

That's the thing. There already dead or gods. So yeah. Options limited.
Sooo the gods told Somnus to set Ardyn up??? S e r i o u s l y?
I think the implication is that only Bahamut, Aera, and the five gods below Bahamut knew. Somnus and Ardyn were manipulated.
That American Narrator I honestly wish they kept versus xiii because XV was literally “Bahamut screws everyone over and all the Lucian powers get wiped away.” Ardyn just wants his revenge. Everyone “wins” but everyone really just dies even the last Oracle
Saiyaku We honestly don't know what would've happened in VS XIII, so it might have been the same even there
That American Narrator True, I just wish they had enough time to make it as flashy and different as it were in the trailers.
