Probably one of the most important hip hop moments that nobody talks about. Jay and Kanye were shhhh on this because what can you say, honestly. This song needs to be recirculated.

An excellent commentary on this song and all too accurate .
And one way to bring much needed attention to this song is for someone to sample it in their own song ... IF its a good song they write , people woll listen to the original sample and hear mos def ( yasiin bey ) .
      But samples cost $5,000 ! ( they used to cost $75,000 ! )

"this shit weird, we be home and still be scared. It’s grief here, It’s peace here, its easy and hard to be here." .. very deep line. perfectly describes what much of the 99% is feeling. Very grateful and thankful for who and what we have. We live in America and have so many luxuries and privileges while people in developing countries live life in utter poverty. But at the same time we work so many hours away from our families at unfulfilling jobs for people who treat us like shit.

True . But keeping folks here DOWN and struggling has all been by design ... so they'll opt for communism -- more and more are !
... but instead of red communism , its called blue communism ... and regrettably its coming from the democrats -- who are no longer true democrats -- and haven't been in a long time .
They are democrats in NAME only .
I grew up in a drmocrat household BUT we , and our relatives , friends and neighbors were ALL
      KENNEDY
      DEMOCRATS
      ...

I hope we appreciate this man while he's still alive and breathing. Please don't wait too late to give this man his flowers. He's on a different level of thinking while still caring for his people and fans.

If Allah is not the word for you - simply translate it. This message is for you, translate the information into a way that is beneficial. And don't get caught up in NO throne, just as Mos says - Even Allahs throne if that is how you must look at it.
For me, I simply see it as the 'now' - I don't see the statement as an invisible hand, but merely a word to describe something. The infinite now, the cycles from decisions.
We are the universe witnessing itself. You are in control.

Our Milky Way Galaxy is 100000 light years across with 200 billion star systems in it. It has 20 billion planetary systems like ours and 1 in 10 of those have Earth like planets.

powerful; important...some of you MAY have the tendency to close your mind....to stop watching this all the way through. hear it. feel it. our country's in trouble. our world is in trouble. our children are in trouble. love is that only answer!!!! well, i stand corrected; there are a myriad of answers, love is the answer of the highest truth. anything less than love will inherently bring more pain. we need to love one another; leaving noone behind!!

Lot's of people take tracks and redo them, or sample parts of songs, but this... this is taking a track that was all about making money, self interest, gloating, and made that shit real. Don't get me wrong I like the original but it might as well not exist now because Yasiin Bey owned that shit. Those diamonds in West's teeth aint gonna save his soul.

I haven't witnessed it first hand, but I did see a television program about the music industry, and in this one episode it followed a female singer making a song, and try to get it played on the radio. This singer was tipped to be the hottest thing that the year but nothing ever happened. The song was even produced by Mark Ronson, and someone else well known (I can't remember who exactly). The episode showed the singer's manager playing the song to the bosses, and even interviewed DJ's.

Id rather be able to live Jay and Kanyes version..... Mos Def has always been top 5 when it comes to MC's! The man has that gift. I cant tell you a wack Mos Def verse! Comes with fire everytime he spits. Black on both sides, and the blackstar album are 2 underrated classics!

Great song; amazing skill. Shivers up and down my spine and then that bullshit line at the end. What a great message about giving up the worship of money and power, unfortunately it is subverted at the end with the promise of yet another tyrant that demands supplication.

Well I don't type out nonsensical comments that others cannot understand so if that's smart, okay, I guess I am.

pkay dennis I'm going to appeal to your intelligence and ask: where did I say that? Also, I find it amusing that you still have not taken the time to correct your typo and instead choose to whine. Are we supposed to take you seriously?

+Tony Gonzales , Mos Def is the only celebrity that had enough courage to say truth , who are you to judge his line without any argument ... i know why you didn't use any argument , but i want you to realize that if you think that you are smart , and i'm sure you are but try to think "objectively" and do some research !
      peace !

@amsid Maison Martin Margiela: He is a famous designer. Between 1985 and 1987 he worked for Jean Paul Gaultier, before showing his first collection under his own label in 1989. Between 1997 to 2003 he became, despite his non-traditional design, the creative director of the Hermès women's line. Margiela's brand was acquired by the Diesel brand in 2002, and in 2009 Margiela left the company due to creative differences.

I love this is song, but Allah is not in control. Only the people can control what's going on in our nations, not a silent, absentee God, Allah or Yahweh. It is up to us to make a change in the world we claim to love.

Allah is in control, weather you like it or not, he is not absent. you are nothing but a needy human, brought and nursed by another needy humanbeeing.you can do nothing by your self if it wasn't by the mercy of Allah. the reason why we have no change is because first we have to change our self(by worshiping the one treu god, Allah)quran 3:55
"([Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ". Allah also said quran (8:53)
"That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon
a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing".peace to you
