Taiwan's main issue lies in political contest between US and Russia in Asia since 1946. Also, we need to know that every policies made by PRC is meant to serve the interest of the CCP not the majority of the people in Mainland and Taiwan.
Technically speaking, the so-called CCP is a party or we can say it's a group, and individuals in any group have their own individual interests, which are often not the same as or may even be contrary to the group's interests. If we have to talk about the interests of the CCP as a group, it is in fact to make life better for the people on the mainland and even for all human beings in the world -- after all, this is the source of the legitimacy of the CCP's rule as of today.

So now if you are a citizen of Kinmen or Matsu, would you call yourself a Taiwan citizen or even Taiwanese? The government tries so hard to push the narrative of Taiwan is Taiwan & Taiwan is not China to the point that many people in Taiwan don't even know their true history at all.
So when you don't know what really happened, you can only argue and fight with your emotions not facts. This is also why the current party that controls Taiwan refuses to communicate with mainland China, because the Taiwan is Taiwan narrative that they have been running with could back fire andcause them to lose the next election while the previous party that used to rule mainland and Taiwan island KMT, have been communicating with PRC to ease of tensions between the ROC and PRC.
One more thing. All ROC 🇹🇼 citizens are issued with the same passport cover with Republic of China written on top and Taiwan written below. There's no consideration towards those from Kinmen and Matsu (which are part of Fujian province) . The only way to find out is to open up the passport and check the place of birth: Taiwan / Kinmen etc (under the nationality of Republic of China)
