No one noticed that he was playing in a completely dark hall. What an artistic message to the world! I would not applaud, but silently worship the greatness...
The first 150 seconds (The A-section) of this wonderful piece is accessible to intermediate level amateurs who know how to read music and have some ideas about the world we live in. If I were a piano teacher, I'd try to inspire my adult students to spend more time at the piano learning how to play great, emotional themes like this one. Music is meant to be performed like in the days before the radio and gramophone.
I consider myself an intermediate amateur pianist and I can assure this whole piece is accessible. I learnt it in only a month, I thought it would have taken much more time but it really isn't that hard. It's one of the best pieces to learn, and one of the easiest Rach pieces out there.
@@danibv1291 i kinda agree with you but the middle of the B-section insanely hard. You need a lot of control on the piano. But it is not impossible if you study slow and slow. Also the coda is pretty challenging.
@@danibv1291 Good for you :)) keep practising and soon you'll be an advanced level amateur pianist, you will then be able to play most of Rachmaninoff's pieces with skill and control. And why not the Chopn etudes. There are only 27 of them. Might as well learn the Scherzi and Ballades too. Good luck my friend.
@@kliberalsing I would say this piece is actually quite inaccessible, personally. Hitting all the right notes is the easy part, but the dynamics and control you need to play this and have it sound GOOD is incredibly difficult. (Especially if you’re on a piano with heavier keys.) But at least it’s not a piece that requires giant hands! Although it’s a great piece to teach int amateurs anyway. The jumps and parts where you cross your hands over one another are great to get more ‘mobility’ in playing, and the whole B section is a very fun exercise. A shame the shapes in Eb minor are all so wonky… but that’s a part of the learning, too.
I’ve listened to this over and over - just a stunning performance! And now I’m going to try this for my next piece and will probably listen to it 100 more times. The absolute best!!!
One of the most beautiful piano pieces ever composed. I played this piece a while back in high school, wish I had recorded it as I even had it memorized. After hearing this man’s performance I’d like to learn it again. What an excellent performance of this pianist!!
Same! My parents never recorded my recitals (granted this was before smart phones existed), and I wish they had at least recorded Elegy. It was my favorite and also had it memorized (I was 15). We moved when I was almost 16, so my classical lessons stopped. Miss playing, but not sure it’d come back to me now (33). 💔
This was my favorite go-to encore after playing a Rachmaninoff Concerto or the Paganini Variations. Nobody, including the composer himself, interprets it as well as Maestro Lugansky does.

Felicitaciones Maestro Nucolai Lugansky! Llore de emocion con su interpretacion!! Absolutamente maravillosa! Rachmaninov vive en sus manos! Ud es el mejor pianista del mundo!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
why do they start clapping before the piece is done? With non-virtuoso pieces, it's best to let the sound die down. The pianist will usually indicate by his posture when it's actually done.
bc the performance is good, you really wanna clap for the player, and oh look, the song just ended! its really simple, you clap for those that deserve it, not hold it for dramatics 😆

I think it's a homage to Richter, because Richter preferred the audience to listen to the music rather than watch him play
Fantastic Russian piano School music !!!!
I love the way lugansky interprets rachmaninoff, its just perfect

Music is enough for a lifetime a lifetime is not enough for music Rachmaninoff bravo Lugansky you are the best pianist alive for Rachmaninoff 🎉❤😊
Maybe you've forgotten that Ashkenazy is still alive!
Brilliant performance. Lugansky's tenderness is overwhelming. His exquisite sense of expression and dynamics is fantastic
This guy is just amazing. There is no word left to describe these feelings. Very touching performance, made me cry..

Incredible performance and piece!!! I have this on repeat. I must be about 1,000 of the current 113,000 views. One day will try to tackle this.

What a great choice to celebrate Rachmaninoff's 150th birthday. ❤️🔥
Beautiful playing! Always love listening to Lugansky. A sublime performance of the Rachmaninoff.

1:26-1:57 most beautiful part of the piece
A wonderful present on Rachmaninov's 150th birthday with this exquisite, refined and very touching performance by Nikolai Lugansky !👏👏👏👏✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️💝

Genius from Rachmaninoff and played sublimely by Nikolai.
Bravisimo Maestro Lugansky!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎹🎶

Immense beauty and perfect perfomance.Thank you

this is special
Lugansky's Rachmaninoff is on another level.
Rillingen, zo mooi!
That climax at 3:21 😍
Thank you
Superbe interpretation. So, so sensitive and passionate. He is great!

Beatiful!
What a breathtakingly gorgeous piece, so deep and tragic. A masterpiece. Rachmaninov had his own musical voice right from the start.

I always angry when this happening, even in virtuoso pieces. Why don't they let the acoustics dissolve and scatter, so it will be better

Rachamninoff's Elegie is one of the greatest songs ever written that define the pain and isolation after the loss of someone loved by us.

BRAVO 👏
Perfect!!! Absolutely perfect.
woooo new video by lugansky!
Imagine, he was only 19 when he created this masterpiece!
Beautiful piece!
Grand!
🖤
This piece is one of those I love most. I play it faster. However, Lugansky' s version keeps absolutelly loyal to the spirit of the composition.
the best in this piece
❤💐
Lugansky is Rachmaninoff's son...
Is it true he composed this when he was 18?
Yes, it is only his third opus.

I enjoyed this more than Rachmaninov playing himself. Too fast and violent, albeit vitruosic
