I have quite the history with this series. I was the new kid freshly moved into the neighborhood in middle school, and had absolutely no friends. But one day, someone sitting in the back row with me saw me drawing some big platforming fight scene on graph paper (as one did in those heydays) and said that my style reminded him of Escaping The Prison. We fired it up on one of the library computers that *didn't* have Newgrounds blocked - and we were best buddies ever since. The debut of the collection led to even a small celebration between us (popping corks and all), now with both of us in late college - and yours truly getting into animation work, inspired by these very antics, hoping to maybe make his own little legacy someday. I can totally vouch that this remaster is fantastic - the animation has improved brilliantly and all the jokes are truly hilarious. And everything REALLY comes together in the finale, something that's really worth playing through in full and seeing all the fates that await our anti-hero/hero. And perhaps if one witnesses everything, there's a little something they might find hidden away somewhere... Thanks for shedding some light on the history of what made my history - was really interesting to see how all this came together.

Puff very specifically avoided spoiling it for me in his interview, despite me asking fairly directly about it. So I figured I'd do my best to not spoil that for anyone with this video! But I drew extra attention to it in my own playthrough, so I know that that information is totally out there at this point!
The part where he talks about not getting other voice actors I was kinda confused because I can swear the Rocket pilot in Completing the Mission is voiced by Killian
Right, Sven Svensson! That seems to be a fairly common comparison from people. Turns out Puff's vaguely european accent for that character just ended up sounding a lot like Killian haha
Nothing wrong with it, big twist and sad ending. But I want to know the mindset of the crew when they made the ending of Valiant Hero in CtM. R.I.P Charles
Well, the mindset was to finally give you an emotion of sadness. The Betrayed may let out hope for some people as Henry could've lived due to his strange luck. Charles doesn't have plot armor though, and as he's the most loyal and least criminal main character, kill him off and make the player cry! It did its job.
I imagine it was fueled by the realization that a fairly deep world of well-loved characters had been created along the way, with Charles being among the favourites. When creating so many branching, whacky fails and endings, nobody would ever expect to be full-on slapped by such a sad ending! IT's devastating, but it really elevates the story, stakes, and everything beyond just being a "silly meme game"
Fun fact, sneaky prisoner is the cannon ending to escaping the prison Because in infiltrating the airship, the photo evidence that captain galeforce used to blackmail Henry in the beginning shows a missing prison bar
That's actually not true, as we've also seen a report from Galeforce that included testimony from Felix White, Henry's lawyer. As well as a statement that Winston Davis was charged with assault. The blackmail used in Infiltrating the airship is randomized to reference one ending from each game.
Two Left Thumbs also, the “Tunisian diamond” page of the blackmail include the center for chaos containment, meaning that the canonical ending for stealing the diamond is just plain epic
I'd assumed that Henry first escaped the prison and was then later defended in court by White. The blackmail for StD in ItA contains a scene from (gameplay leading up to) the Aggressive Ending, so I'd assumed that was the canon one.
Spoilers: There’s a hidden “Easter egg” in Completing the Mission during the CCC section. On the right there’s a bunch of sticky notes, after clicking numerous times and getting EVERYTHING done for every game. From BtB to CtM. After watching how Henry getting the package in EtP and the “Thank You, for supporting me through out these years” I cried a little. Getting every achievement in the Henry Stickmin Collection will always be my proudest moment in my years of gaming.
Actually, your kind of wrong with the voice actor thing for Fleeing the Complex. Puffballs United DID get a secondary voice actor, Reese B. She only voiced one character, being female stick character new to this instalment in the series, Ellie, who you recruit in one of the paths. Oddly, in FtC, Ellie sounded nearly quiet and didn't have too much personality or energy, probably because Reese wasn't as experienced in voice acting as Puffball was. In Completing the Mission, Reese returns and still voices Ellie, who has a lot more dialogue and a more stronger personality, making her just as great of a teammate to Henry as Charles. Not only that, but Reese also voices all the other female characters found in Completing the Mission.
I think because Ellie is just like Henry stickmin but girl version and can talk. If Ellie talked too much in fleeing the complex, it wouldn't look like henry stickmin.
Hahaha pretty much. Practically every minute I was awake was recording, editing, or rendering. And honestly, it was the most fun I've had in months! Not even just with the channel. In general! It was so exhilarating to watch the swell of interest in the series, and to enjoy it alongside so many others

8 years and counting. The enduring legacy of these games capture me with its nostalgia. Thank you for summarising the full picture of the history and context behind these games! This is so detailed.
I did not hesitate to spend the $15 on the collection. Henry Stickmin was one of those pieces of online content I grew up with. I will not say it was the most impactful game of my childhood. It would be hard to pin down. But I will say that it's one of those relics that you carry with you always, and that every time someone mentions or references it, you feel proud of knowing what it is, where it comes from and how it came to be. Puffballs earned my $15 and my support. Any future games I can see coming out of him and Innersloth I'll give a try at least.
picking choices in other choose your own adventure games : "so what would make the most sense to have the best ending?" picking choices in the henry stickmin collection : "Charles!"
No joke. As soon as I realized that the game had released on the day that it had released, I immediately went to my Steam account and bought it. I already had it on my wishlist (only learning of it when I found their April Fool's video), so you know I was looking forward to it!
I asked Puff if that motivated the decision at all. He's been working on the remasteres so long, that that news hadn't even hit yet!! And with all the preservation efforts being made to keep Flash games alive post-December, it shouldn't be a real concern luckily! I'll do a video in the future talking about that, as I'm sure not all of the efforts being made are well known still :)
I can't be the only one who adores the choices in CTM and how each faction sound effect is the intro to their game, the Toppat Clan is a song note from ITA while the Wall would have a note from FTC. Kinda cool.
@@TheUnclaimedOne actually, VH ending is most probably canon. If TT was canon,we would probably see at least 1 more game or an epilogue about it,and Henry would still go in adventures. But since he abandoned the one who helped him escape the wall and loose his only friend in the space,by an tragic explosion probably got him to stop going in adventures,so he doesn't find anyone else to get attached to,cause he may loose them too. :(
Honestly, as soon as a I realized Completing the Mission exists, I bought it. I tend to be sparing with when I buy games, tending to space out purchases with many month long gaps, but you don’t wait for nostalgia, and you don’t wait for childhood memories.
I first found out about this series back in 2015 when jacksepticeye and a bunch of other youtubers played fleeing the complex, I love watching them play it and the game was hilarious, which led me to play the games myself and enjoy finding all the endings, fails and easter eggs. I'd go back to look back on it from time to time over the years until last year, when I found out about the revamped games and CtM, I loved seeing how the art and animation progressed is so amazing, it even inspired me to make a few animations on flash for my self (they aren't great, i'm still learning). I showed the games to my friend and she ended up loving it as well, it was fun to see her pick out some of the references to some of the video games I didn't recognise and laughing at some of the outdated memes. When I found that CtM had been released, I immediately reinstalled steam and bought it (and I don't even play video games anymore, so you know this is a special case!) and oh man was it worth it! I loved seeing the changes that were made to the original versions of each game, reliving fun 2015 memories and right clicking everyone to see their bios, my personal favourites being the janitor hater, "str8 shoota", how the guy from breaking the bank that lost his job is now a tappat member and the roadman that says "yo wes like need a new boss man" (my man really did hes research of what a TRUE brit acts like lol). And even though I did find some of the endings a bit anti climatic, CtM was really fun as well! Highlights for are, the walkthrough, the guy that just lets henry through the gates and tells the boss "he was to fast for me!", the crossing the pit reference, henry, ellie and charles teaming up, henry and charles being the best bros, charles's death (super unexpected RIP), the revamped distraction dance, the "dance battles" and many many more. The fact that Puffballs made the first game when he was just 17 and to see how far he's gotten now is really inspiring, it kinda gives me hope that maybe i'll be able to create something that will even reach half the amount of people that also loved/loves henry. Furthermore, thank you Puffballsunited for making these hilarious games and giving me and many others fun memories!
The Henry Stickmin series is a hilarious game series with a timeless sense of humor that I feel needs to grow. It honestly was a great series with both a great concept and excellent execution!

Ah, the Henry Stickmin series... my absolute favorite flash game series! I'm glad that the series got the remake treatment and also got a 6th game, but while you were talking about Infiltrating the Airship, I couldn't help but notice that the music in the background was actually from Earthbound, another rather underrated game that has an excellent soundtrack. It's a good remix of one of the many battle themes!
There is a section of “completing the mission where you essentially play “crossing the pit” all of the options are the same and all of them except the teleported end the same as in that “game”
Great work on this video dude! I actually hadn't known about the Toppat Clan's origins, or what "The Bridge" was, lol. Accepting that this series had finally concluded was such a hard pill for me to swallow. I still hold out hope that Puffball may return to it someday. But until then, he deserves a break. I remember playing the first three games when they had all come out, and I enjoyed them so much. There was just something so unique, and different, and charming about them. I'm so glad that they've become popular amongst Let's Players. Seeing the series I played back when I was younger getting the mainstream attention it deserved is just such a good feeling.
I already bought the Henry Collection, I had to buy it...I love this series so much it’s done so much for my life and it’s created wonderful memories as well as being a partial inspiration for me learning to be an animator and youtuber
It makes me so happy that Flash games as iconic as this had such a big part in building up so many childhoods. Thank you for inspiring so many with your works, Puffballs.
Imagine going back from the start but play as Ellie Rose instead of Henry Stickmin cuz you don't know about Ellie Rose criminal history and then end up on "The Wall"
I had always loved playing the Henry Stickmin Collection ever since I was in Elementary school, my classmates and I would play this over, and over, and over again. Stealing the Diamond was my first game, heck I only thought their was one path to complete the game! But after exploring more, I grew to love it and even it's prequels and sequels. And now as a college student I still love the series. Their will always be a special place for it in my heart.
I’m not gonna lie, I literally waited on my computer for it to come out, and the very minute it came out I bought it! This series is literally my childhood, and I was so excited to get the game!!
There are sooooo many refrences in the distraction choice (I think it's the government official and convict allies path). From the do the mario dance, the jojo torture dance, back to brooklyn, (idk if thats the real name) the worm, tf2's conga, hat kid's smug dance, snoop dog, and the dance from spider man 3 (toby maguire), and orange justice. And of course there's the dab
I can't believe that this video and channel exists! It was so informative and it's awesome that you actually got to interview the developer! I also grew up with this series like a lot of people here and I want to thank you for your videos! I'll be sure to stick around as your 7,000th subscriber (seriously, I unintentionally just pushed it over to 7k) and I'll keep watching your content! Happy 7k and thank you!
It would be absolutely legendary if the Stickmin Collection made it onto consoles. Until then, I’m more than okay playing this downright HISTORIC series on my computer.
Long shot of that happening, especially considering that some references are very console specific... I don't think Nintendo would be happy with seeing their stuff - Easter Egg not withstanding - on the PlayStation, for example. *BUT DAMN IT! I WANT IT ON CONSOLE AS WELL!!!*
I remember I found stealing the diamond on my own without youtube in 2014, while it was fun, I thought it was just a one-off title. Then youtube introduced me to the series. Like most I loved it. fast forward to a few days ago, my friend told me about the henry stickmin collection on steam. "oh cool they released the games on steam?" they have got to be free...then I saw the trailer. I honestly thought the series had ended/died but seeing it completely remastered and a brand new game, it reignited my enjoyment. I have always thought the games were amazing but now the collection sits as one of my favourites.
These games really kept me entertained during my high school and college days, now that I am making money I don't find paying a relatively small amount of money to show my support to Puffballs. The game is worth every penny and I am saying this BEFORE I start Completing The Mission. Thank you very much Puffballs for everything
Mark is the one who got me to buy the complete the mission game. From his videos on TH-cam. Thanks puffballs united for your hard work on this amazing game.
It was a nice mix of nostalgia & new adventures. I mostly adore the massive amount of references the collection has (My favourite reference is the "MGS"-chapter of Completing the Mission btw).
The moment when Charles gets left behind in the Toppat station and the sad music starts playing. Then the Toppat station blows up with Charles inside, his last words, "You could say it was the greatest pla-" Then you see "Mission Complete". Then suddenly the tears blind you.
Good question. My theory is that "The Wall" isn't part of the govt that Henry is in but instead it is part of an international govt so the international crimes still applies, thats why the pardon is not applicable in this situation.
Henry Stickmin will always have a special place in our hearts. We all have a reason why... From it's simple graphics to the memes it made on the way. It's graphics are simple but fun and recognizable. It's concept is amazing! A choose-your-own-adventure game that isn't short and serious. The humor is amazing, giving references which you can point out and have a good laugh. It's memes which Puffballs is aware of (Distraction, Charles). Achievements that are easy to find but also hard. The scenes have the heart and soul that we want out of a game! Just look at the reactions of various youtubers to Charles' death! (R.I.P. Charles... It really was the greatest plan.) Thank you Puffballs for this amazing game! :D
The first time i played one of these games i still didn't know english (i'm italian), but i still liked it since, most of the story can be understood by the animation.
As much as I wasn’t alive when the game first came out the I played the old games and loved them and when I heard there make a collection I wishlisted it and was glad I got it also it is very much worth the money it gave me a fair share of nostalgia
I think it was well worth the price lol idk why some people hate paying for things, I mean hello would you work for free then let a bunch of people take what you made for free???
I think it's likely due to the misconception of how monetization of Flash games works/worked. Back when that was a thriving industry, with loads of Flash game portals, they would pay sponsorships to have their branding added to the game (ie. the Stickpage stuff seen throughout this series). Eventually ad revenue became a more prominent option as well. So the creators has already made most of the money they were going to make by launch, and could fully offer the game for free, with extra money coming in the more people who played it! Fast forward to the bottom kind of falling out of Flash, and these creators need to start charging money to earn anything from their games. Fan will think they suddenly turned greedy, while instead that is now essentially the only way to make money on that work! Big projects like this will hopefully turn that public opinion, and remove the stigma of old Flash artists trying to earn a living
PreppyTuba5 Gaming That’s not what I meant. You took me too literally. I was asking Washim what he meant by telling me how long Puffball made games as if that meant anything.
I wouldn't be surprised if Puffballs United made it where you have to play all of the games before you get to the next one, because people played them in the wrong order. (Examples: Markiplier, DanTDM, and myself)
That's a good point too! I'm sure labeling them with clear "Episode X" would have helped. But I side with Puff, that forcing people to revisit the games was really for the best
you can tell that in the beggining that puffballs was calling the henry stickmin collection movies in the beggining as there is an option to pick "jetpack" and before truly failing a fail text comes up where escaping the prison was reffered to as a movie twice , this was changed in the remaster to say game.
It did come up briefly. His immediate plan is to rest! haha After that, they want to support Among Us more, and are possibly considering Among Us 2! They may also revive their old game Deitied. I wanted to keep the focus on Henry as much as possible in this video.
I am just now realizing that one area in Completing the Mission was a recreation of the Crossing the Pit game, holy shit-
Spoiler alert on this comment, BTW on ctm so many game references (including memes)

Because in infiltrating the airship, the photo evidence that captain galeforce used to blackmail Henry in the beginning shows a missing prison bar
That's a pretty cool observation!
The blackmail for StD in ItA contains a scene from (gameplay leading up to) the Aggressive Ending, so I'd assumed that was the canon one.
random guy if he escaped legally they wouldn’t use it as blackmail
Spoilers:
There’s a hidden “Easter egg” in Completing the Mission during the CCC section.
What does CCC mean
No One Hack This Acc Center for Chaos Containment.

Puffballs needs a well deserved break after this. I mean, 2000+ hours!? Yeah.
It actually took him 3 years. (The entire Collection)
Fleeing the complex: 2015
Completing the mission 2020
I also noticed Killian's voice in CtM. He voices Sven and I think one of the Wall guards.
@@luthercampbell3058 no that just puff balls European accent
Wait so did puffballs voice all of the other characters? Am I just dumb?
@@whenthe4402 puff voices the male characters, reese voices the female ones
I think because Ellie is just like Henry stickmin but girl version and can talk. If Ellie talked too much in fleeing the complex, it wouldn't look like henry stickmin.
"Like really hard" more like 'I barely took a break for several days because I was making this let's play' lol
Hahaha pretty much.
Practically every minute I was awake was recording, editing, or rendering.
And honestly, it was the most fun I've had in months! Not even just with the channel. In general! It was so exhilarating to watch the swell of interest in the series, and to enjoy it alongside so many others
This game is truly a masterpiece. It is worth every single penny. Way better than triple-A games.
I didnt know Puffbal was one dude. When the credits said "voices by Puffball " I thought it was some people doing fineky voices

Confusing since Puffballs is plural and United suggests multiple things being together

Rajvir Madathiparambil I was just more thinking on the major stuff
I loved watching these games and always wanted to play and now that it’s been remade and updated I’m gonna play
Do you have pc or laptop
You could always play them, they were free flash games
picking choices in other choose your own adventure games : "so what would make the most sense to have the best ending?"
picking choices in the henry stickmin collection : "Charles!"
THIS IS THE GREATEST PLANNNNNNNNNN
This is true
No joke. As soon as I realized that the game had released on the day that it had released, I immediately went to my Steam account and bought it. I already had it on my wishlist (only learning of it when I found their April Fool's video), so you know I was looking forward to it!
Flash is dying december so puttimg it in steam is smart
I asked Puff if that motivated the decision at all.
He's been working on the remasteres so long, that that news hadn't even hit yet!!
And with all the preservation efforts being made to keep Flash games alive post-December, it shouldn't be a real concern luckily! I'll do a video in the future talking about that, as I'm sure not all of the efforts being made are well known still :)
The Flashpoint project is one of the best preservation projects I believe.
Newgrounds made a video player because flash is dying.
@@2leftthumbs is new grounds going away
I can't be the only one who adores the choices in CTM and how each faction sound effect is the intro to their game, the Toppat Clan is a song note from ITA while the Wall would have a note from FTC.
Kinda cool.
If the Charles is dead ending is cannon I’m done
Edit: all endings are cannon
No, Triple Threat is Canon. End of story, no change my mind about it. Lol. That and Special BROvert Ops are probably my favorite
@@TheUnclaimedOne. My favorite is the Toppat Civil Warfare, the potential that it has.
Austin LaRue Toppat King is my favorite. I also really like Stickmin Space Resort.
:(
Every ending is canon
There were a lot of flash games I played back then. Henry Stickamn, Fancy Pants, and Sift Heads were among my favorites.
It seems you may have a thing for sticks?
The world needs more AAA stick games!
Furthermore, thank you Puffballsunited for making these hilarious games and giving me and many others fun memories!
i think a big thing about the stickmin series' success is how it makes you WANT to fail instead of hope you luck out and win through sheer luck
The Henry Stickmin series is a hilarious game series with a timeless sense of humor that I feel needs to grow. It honestly was a great series with both a great concept and excellent execution!
This would be what I would say if I was making a riddle school review
If you're into Riddle School, then I've actually done a very similar video on the history of that series as well :)

“Do you know that rick and morty have the same voice actor? It’s so impressive!”

Omfg it took me until 5:41 that Puffballs DID including crossing the gap in completing the mission! Now that’s amazing!
I grew up on these games! So cool being reminded of them
"NOOOOO you cant just make a flash game and have a fandom"
PuffballsUnited: Haha Fandom go brrr
I already bought the Henry Collection, I had to buy it...I love this series so much it’s done so much for my life and it’s created wonderful memories as well as being a partial inspiration for me learning to be an animator and youtuber
It makes me so happy that Flash games as iconic as this had such a big part in building up so many childhoods. Thank you for inspiring so many with your works, Puffballs.
Extremely underrated video. This deserves more attention.
Glad you think so!
If he ever makes a chapter 6, I have one single suggestion...
MORE. CHARLES.
THIS IS THE GREATEST PLAAAAN
yes
It wont work is you previous CtM ending is “Valiant Hero” because Charles Calvin is d e a d
iirc CtM is the ending
so maybe we should be asking about Ellie's and Charles's adventures in addition to Henry's
I want a spin off or Ellie for why she got to the wall I also want a Charles spinoff
Imagine going back from the start but play as Ellie Rose instead of Henry Stickmin
cuz you don't know about Ellie Rose criminal history and then end up on "The Wall"
yeah we want that and charles too
I had always loved playing the Henry Stickmin Collection ever since I was in Elementary school, my classmates and I would play this over, and over, and over again. Stealing the Diamond was my first game, heck I only thought their was one path to complete the game! But after exploring more, I grew to love it and even it's prequels and sequels. And now as a college student I still love the series. Their will always be a special place for it in my heart.
I think triple threat is the best ending in completing the mission
Yeah I got that ending.
My most favourite is toppar for lyfe

This is really interesting. I remember playing escaping the prison when I was a kid, and it blew my mind!!!

The greatest flash game
I like how completing the mission has a reference to crossing the pit even the options are the same
The question is why did Henry go to the complex after the private envestigator ending in infiltrating the airship.
Good question.
My theory is that "The Wall" isn't part of the govt that Henry is in but instead it is part of an international govt so the international crimes still applies, thats why the pardon is not applicable in this situation.
Nice theory.
Thank You For This! :)
My pleasure!

The first time i played one of these games i still didn't know english (i'm italian), but i still liked it since, most of the story can be understood by the animation.

actually crossing the pit is in completing the mission, it comes up during the path where Henry steals the emerald from the Toppat space station
It's more like an easter egg
true but it is essentially in completing the mission
THE FINAL TRUE ENDING OF THE GAME IS THE MULTIVERSE CORRECTION ONE

The very first cross the bridge actually had a reference in completing the mission, the Jewel Baron ending

You could've asked what will he do after Henry Stickmin ends?
It did come up briefly.
