I actually drove both of these in 2024 and bought a Subaru Outback Onyx. Main reason was that I am 6'3 (191cm) tall and weigh 210. I am tall but normal build. The seat in the Mazda didn't go back far enough and I felt somewhat cramped. I loved how the CX-50 looked and it is very nice, but the Outback offered more what I wanted. Upgraded audio in the model I wanted as well. I live in northern Wisconsin and I need AWD and felt the Outbacks was just more what I wanted. Both are really nice, Moe front seat leg room and Imight have got the Mazda.

Yes, the Outback is likely be the better off road than the Mazda. If your driving is not mostly off road you would be much better off with the Mazda CX50 than the Subaru Outback. Also, how often will you take advantage of the utilities offered by the Outback vs the engaging drive and far better handling of the CX50.

Lovely research, I'm still torn though, any thoughts on off toad performance?
(Thought I'd leave typo- off toad sounds funny)
    Thank you!

GO watch DrivingSportTV's videos. He does much more comprehensive off-road testing. For all intents and purposes, the Mazda performs fine but the Outback is just on another level. Having 3 modes (normal + 2 x-modes) makes the Subaru much more versatile in varied terrains.

The fact Subaru is using a CVT rather then rotary it looses allllll possible appeal or advantages. False advertisement = closed wallet. 😂

Sounds like fake news to me, citation required.

@@JustinPritchard their commercials show its made for wilderness and off roading, yet they had to admit that only one vehicle, the only model without the cvt can actually really go off road as the cvt over heat and cannot handle the stress.
