      Poem is called Late Lament:
      Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
      Another day’s useless energy spent.
      Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
      And which is an illusion?

I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's - 80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Nights In White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice", "Your Wildest Dreams", "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock & Roll Band". But all of their music is great. Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once.

Nights in White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon are great stand alone songs from the Days of Future Past album. But they can only be fully appreciated by listening to the whole album from beginning to end. This early "concept album" was released less than 6 months after The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and was not a huge hit at first but kept gaining new fans for decades. It was said back then and is still true today- You dont listen to the Moody Blues- you experience them.

When I was a young girl my sister and I would sleep with the radio playing. This was playing on a night someone broke in. A book self in hall saved our life because he hit his gun on it and it went off. We woke up to screaming and smoke, and gunpowder, and this song. I have it on my playlist, which may be creepy to some, but it keeps me humble, and reminds me that when u go to bed at night, ur not guaranteed the next day. One of my favs. Thank you peace ✌️

the story is that the lead singer (Justin Haywood), in high school, had a crush on a popular girl, but could not tell her. He would write her letters at night but never give them to her. Hence the lyrics in the song. A close friend of his knew about this. Years later, when this group became very famous, that friend met that girl and told her that this song was about her. She went out and found the singer and today they have been married for many years. Kind of a fun adjunct to this music! I wonder if she ever got to read those letters. They must have been quite romantic considering his ability to write great lyrics. On the album “Days of Future Past,” this song at the end includes a poem by Graeme Edge (the drummer). "Late Lament"
    Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
    Another day’s useless energy spent.
    Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.

I just happened to turn on the TV and a music special was coming on, and on the screen it said "The Moody Blues, 20 Years Later", well, I wasn't about to turn the channel, so I watched in total aw of how this band played and sounded vocally, I watched the whole thing, I believed I had it recorded at one time. "Days Of Future Past" is really a great album. There's a song in this concert that is sung by the flutist of this group, it's called "For My Lady", it's a beautiful song, you might appreciate it. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it!

I always like this video, it's a great performance obviously, but I see Justin Hayward there in the dark at the end, reacting to the orchestra. and I think, what a wonderful feeling that must have been. Knowing he wrote this, it was a massive hit, it's still loved 25 years later (this concert was in 92), and here he is in the middle of it. I don't know, it's just a silly thing and maybe I'm imagining it. Maybe he's just thinking, thank god that's over for another night.
I like to think it's my version, though.
You have so much to choose from, older orchestral songs, rock songs, usually with those great harmonies. Justin is one of the main songwriters, along with John Lodge (he was on the right in black), but all the band members wrote. I had the pleasure of seeing John Lodge in a solo concert a couple of years ago. The Voice, Gemini Dream, I Know You're Out There Somewhere, Veteran Cosmic Rocker, Survival, Nervous, Deep. Just some of my favourites!
    Lovely thoughtful reaction.

This song was a staple of late night radio back on the day. I used to go to sleep with my little AM radio playing and sometimes would fall off to sleep with with this playing. It had a real dreamlike quality to it and I formed an image in my mind of the song long before music videos. Same with Don Mclean's Starry Night.

This is the beginning of the poem at the end of this incredible awesome song! You need to listen to this song with the extended version. 🙂

Asia…dead on. The words and the music reflect the emotions. He wrote this when much younger and composed it. You don’t see that today. We got a watch people not be able to play instruments and just grind on things. Lol. It’s a big difference.

They have a huge library of songs. They can rock, they play with symphonies, they can do slow songs, deep thinking songs, songs like Yes and Pink Floyd. They’re concerts were another type of experience.
This is from one of the first concept album that represented a day with every song: morning, afternoon, evening, and the end of the day.

In this version, the orchestra plays at a slightly slower tempo than the one in the studio version, both in their intro and at the end. I'm used to the studio version, which flows better to my ears. This version is still pretty good, though. And, I believe Justin Hayward (the main singer) was a teenager when he wrote this.

You were viewing this song re-done, 30 years after the release, with the addition of a an full orchestra. The entire album of 1968 was a masterpiece of beauty and thought.

The problem with the live versions is that the poem at the end is missing because they do it at the beginning of the concert like they did at Red Rocks. "Breath deep the gathering gloom. Watch lights fade from every room....." So let me give you a heads up to do Procession/The Story In Your Eves". They can be found just like that on TH-cam. Procession is a great lead-in to The Story in Your Eyes and puts the Moody in Moody Blues. You will see.

talented, like so many English bands of the 60's and 70's.

They were one of the absolute first to record in stereo. The studio thought their music would be an excellent choice to add an orchestra too. It is a perfect example of the sweeping new stereo format back in the day

when i was in band, wed be having a concert, and i would always feel so happy and proud when important parts would be played well by my band mates.. had very little to do with wanting to play something perfect, or looking impressive to anyone, or being impressed with anyones skill, but it had everything to do with getting those chills as asia says.. conveying that beauty and extasy that music can give people, the emotional response, the divine language is what i was looking for.. and when someone can feel it when its played, or play it through their instruments, or write the music for it to be played, its as if you care communicating with god himself, and feeling the higher power in people around you.. if only for a moment

Moody Blues started in 1964. They came to fame as a R&B rock band. They have a feel in their music as psychedelic. They broke up for a bit but got back together. They play'd till 2018. This was their number one huge hit in 1967. I know alot about them cause I seen them twice live. Oh and the band composed this.

Just got to love the Moody Blue's, beautiful reaction. Although they were contemporary's of the Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. having formed in the early 1960's, They were the first band to successfully combine classical music with rock music creating big unique atmospheric sound. l was lucky enough to see them in concert in the early 1970's when they toured extensively. l Have great respect for any band that can perform for fifty years.

Saw them in concert: amazing. RIP Ray Thomas (on flute) and Graeme Edge (drums). Funny story: I was in choir as a kid and during the summer attended camp; the head of the camp used to give me demerits because I wouldn’t sing a Moody Blues song for him: I received a lot of the “phony” demerits that summer yet, more important, developed a love for the Moody Blues.
