Thanks Dave worked a treat, can fill kids pools in half an hour took me2 hours with buckets!
This was the answer I needed. I have an old timey tap and needed to attach a hose. This worked perfectly. I used two balloons as gaskets on top of one another just in case one failed. THANKS!!!!!

Today was just in need for this fix and tried it . Worked miraculously . My balloon was a smaller one and the tape was also the normal one but still had no leaks
Perfect for a pinch! I'm sure I can find adapters and things for a long term solution, but I needed this now and didnt want to have to go to the store, so again, PERFECT!

This is a great idea for the hose I have - it has a part which disconnects, so I can attach that to the tap but still disconnect it when I need to use the water for washing etc. Shall have to give it a go! :D

Perfect for my dog's butt who has a long coat and a bad bout of diarrhea and only a cold garden hose in the middle of winter! Was able to fix the hose to the laundry tap so we had warm water worked a charm! Now he's all lovely and clean again BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See THIS is one of the reasons I love his hacks. He tells it straight and will even tell you if the hack has problems. Most of those hacks from channels like 5 minute crafts will show the perfect version of this without telling you it might leak. I hope he does more hacks. Lately he's just been testing gadgets which is fine but he should at least once a month show us some interesting hacks or testing hacks for us so we don't look foolish when we try the hack and it doesn't work. All his videos in general are pretty cool, huh?

I've put a hose on a bathroom tap before by cutting the head of of a cheap plastic shower attachment, the kind that sticks on the bathroom taps, and sticking the deheaded end of it inside the end of a hose, it fits quite tightly and I've washed the dog outside with warm water that way!

The problem with this hack is that you may need this tap later, so you have to release it and repeat the process again later. Nevertheless, it is good if you use the hose permanetly.

Alternatively, just buy connectors for the taps in your home to; (1) save money buying duck tape (2) save time cleaning the duck tape gunk left on the tap.

The short answer is that yes, it would be illegal. In the eyes of the law there is no such thing as a temporary installation when it comes to backflow prevention. 'Temporary' is mentioned in the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 in that when a dead length of pipe is temporarily capped leaving a stagnant length this is permitted for up to 60 days, but there is nothing about a 'temporary' backflow issue.
As for the homeowner doing what they like in their own home, the law is there both to protect the homeowner but more generally to protect the quality of the water grid. Since there is usually no backflow protection between the homeowner's pipework and the grid pipework, anything that contaminates the homeowner's pipework has the potential to contaminate the public water supply.
Theoretically, if a hose were connected to an outside tap that had no backflow protection and had been installed legally in that way under grandfather's rights (it would have to be a very old hose!), there is no law to prevent this hose being used, but the moment the hose is disconnected from the tap, it would be illegal to reconnect it without fitting a double check valve.
If you doubt me, please contact your local water board (or water undertaker, as they are officially known). They are obliged to provide advice on these matters in the hope that if people are correctly informed they will comply with the law and they get paid to do this so may as well make them work for it.
