      Thank you! The pin is just beautiful, there's a lot of fine detail in the workmanship, I do suspect it is 1960's-ish or possibly even earlier. The black sand here preserves items really well. Cheers!

    Mish, those .303 rounds were so popular I’m guessing. I found one here in Chino, California also dated from the early 1900’s. I seen them now on several programs on television and computer.

    Hello Mish. I have the same SITO scoop and carbon fiber handle set up you have. I probably mentioned that in one of your other videos. I don't remember. I had to drill a hole dead center in the scoop to accommodate the screw for the handle. I also had to wrap duct tape around the part of the handle that attaches to the scoop, to make it fit snug. Works great.

    • @DirtFishMish

    Summer has landed here with all the heat and humidity the Deep South can muster. 200+ miles to the coast, so water hunting is only a sometimes thing (save the lakes, of course). Extra water, a good absorbent headband, patience and maybe an hour less hunting. Make the best of it, as you do, piling out of lockdown. This hobby supports us all, init?

    • @DirtFishMish

      I do wish I had a decent lake nearby to play in - they'd be a lot calmer than my surf coast - sadly I'm not near any of the popular swimming holes! It is great that we can adapt the hobby to so many different environments for sure. Enjoy that beautiful Summer weather, Dug :)

    Nice day out! I got one of them snake skin cable protectors. I love the sound when the wind goes through it. Like someone playing pan pipes or the flute.
    Any advice on the Seto scoop? I see they have a few types.

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, don't laugh... but I was wondering what was making the noise, I hadn't actually worked it out... that makes so much sense. Oops. 😂
      Re: the scoop, yes I can help you there - I've been meaning to include this discussion in a future gear video. I own two types - the 170mm hex hole and the 200mm mixed hole (in this video). The smaller one is lighter, scoops sand much more efficiently but is far more fragile (be careful around rocks!). The larger is obviously heavier, but thicker and more durable steel and it is great for water hunting as it will hold on to smaller targets without them falling through the scoop holes, but less efficient to sift in dry/wet sand. I'd still avoid levering rocks where possible, but it is forgiving if you accidentally push it against one a little. Hope that helps!

    • @michaelm24_7
      @michaelm24_7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DirtFishMish to be honest I was only 100% confident in the sound when I heard it in your video. The first time I heard it I was detecting a beach near a wedding so I though it COULD be from that but now I'm sure and I love it! My attention span clearly failed and I forgot I asked you. Must be seeing jelly fish too! I ended up going for the pointed bigger scoop for the smaller holes combo, also got the 2-piece 1300mm carbon fibre rod. After reading you're reply though I'm glad I went bigger because I tend to be a bit heavy handed in digging and prob would have broke the smaller ☺️

  • @slayer8actual
    @slayer8actual 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    17:44 This moment made me actually laugh out loud because you reminded me so much of a Far Side cartoon. In it there are some Vikings attacking a fortress with lots of action going on, and as they are crossing the drawbridge assaulting the gate, one of the Vikings notices goldfish in the moat. He yells out "Oh, Goldfish, everyone, Goldfish!" I can relate to that so much since I have been known to do the same thing and get totally distracted from an important task because a small thing gets my attention. Nature is beautiful and it's funny how something so tiny can be so remarkable and engrossing, and removes us from those things that we are thought were important.
    Loved this video. I could hear the excitement in your voice when you said nothing was going to keep you from hunting that day! And as always, I was as anxious as you were to see what you would find. Not much in coins, but plenty of time in the sand and water, and for me that was fun to watch.
    Great time! Looking forward to you next adventure, Mish! Later, friend! Oh, and by the way, I LOVED the music!! Please keep doing that amazing editing that you do!

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, thanks for the comment! I'm only a few years in myself so I tend to refrain from advising people on settings, but if I'm in wet sand/wave conditions I'm typically in Beach 2 with the sensitivity turned down a little - typically maxing out at 20/21, I'd recommend you start a little lower than this and just gradually increase until you find the highest 'stable' point for your detecting. Many newbies tend to have the sensitivity turned way too high in these situations which will cause all sorts of falsing. Make sure you ground balance on the wet sand first as well before entering the water (refer to the manual) to further minimise the chatter. I will probably do a settings video eventually :) Cheers!!

  • @MermaidTreasureHunter

    Busy watching on the tv today so this is my only comment. I’m wondering if the difference from signals could be due to the black sand? We are still in lockdown and I am out of vids. There you go!

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the black sand does all sorts of crazy business to targets, generally makes them sound pretty bad in my experience as there's lots of mineral chatter. Oh dear, you might need to hunt down some more TH-camrs to binge watch! 😂 I've been watching a lot of Aquatic Monkey & Merman Mike's back-catalogue lately, they're diving treasure hunters if you wanted a few suggestions for pleasant content :) xx

      Hi there Trent and thanks for taking the time to drop a comment! Glad to hear you're on board with the hobby. Are you in Australia? If so, I recommend looking up a site called 'Trove'. It is run by the national library. Pop in your towns of interest and check out historical maps, photos, articles and the like. You'll soon work out where the 'older' sections of a region are, and where/how people used to gather. There's some very funny articles in old papers sometimes as well. Cheers!

      Thanks so much Tony! The brand I use is Sito Scoop - in this vid I’m using the 200mm mixed hole scoop (heavier duty), the other one in some vids is a 170mm hex hole scoop (lighter and less durable but sifts more efficiently). Both from sitoscoop.com - if you purchase from there I’d greatly appreciate you letting them know that Mish sent you 😊 cheers!

      Depends on your definition of cold, but yeah it snows and gets cold enough that you gotta rug up and use heating in your house for sure.

    • @DirtFishMish

      Andrew summed it up beautifully, William - it is somewhat dependent of which part of the country you're in, I'm on the south-east end of the mainland which is much colder than the north. Doesn't snow where I live as I'm at lower altitude, but the mornings can be frosty. Cheers!

    • @DirtFishMish

      I'm not offended by that at all! :) A lot of the beaches I go to are used just as much for fishing as they are for swimming, so sadly the hooks are a common find. I give the good ones to fishermen that I see during the hunt, as it gets them out of my bag nice and quickly. Cheers :)

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1tr1ck There's a dowel in the middle of the shaft that the screw goes through as well, and I make sure that the scoop is stored in a position that any moisture can drain away after I've rinsed it following a hunt. I've got a layer of electrical tape between the shaft and scoop as well to eliminate any wiggle. So far so good! :)
