Wellies don’t have orthotics (nor do I want to risk my fabric insoles!), these flip-flops actually have them built in. That wasn’t where I was feeling the cold for the most part - the wind on my face and core was the main issue. Cheers 😁

What a great hunt, almost a full hand, thats something I haven't done yet! They were all pretty deep and some very early ones as well, It would have been a struggle trying to leave that spot, Chasing the washout's is definitely the way to go, hope your toes warmed up! and that we get to live chat soon! That was actually a surprise gift given to me at a detecting event by one of my lovely subscribers, a gent named Luke! It appears in my ‘Dig it Detecting Group Hunt Weekend’ video. The Coffee Bush Kid also received a lovely board. Super proud to use it as a finds display piece. 😊

haha yeah, my feet don't feel the cold, but my face certainly did! The erosion was just amazing on the day but it has now piled back up again in this spot. I'll keep an eye on it for sure. Cheers :)

Great finds, would love to see that silver cleaned up
I cleaned some of them a little for the wrap-up photo, I won’t be cleaning the oldest coins eg. Victoria shilling as the patina is what’s helping to reveal the remnants of the details. I think I’ll keep polishing the St. Christopher pendant though. Cheers 😊

@@DirtFishMish thanks Mish after seeing your videos and not having a relic detector I thought I'd get one. I'm so impressed by the quality of the machine and I got the pro pack for a bargain through detect ed. I got alot of questions but at the moment I'm still just testing it out and getting a feel for how it operates.I did find my first coins today with it so I'm stoked with that. Thank you! My feet are fine, I don’t actually feel the cold all that much through them. Probably a side effect from cold water diving. It’s mostly my face and core that tire from the freezing winds on the coast. Stay warm mate 😁

I haven’t been able to get out as much as I would like the last couple months, but we will be in the water when we do get out until about October.

Question - do the beaches you hunt change due the weather conditions building up or breaking down sand ? So you can hunt a local beach finding different things? I think it brilliant your finding older items!! 👍
G'day Speedy, sorry for the not-so-speedy response! My beaches change SO much because they're on a surf coast, so they regularly get smashed by all sorts of weather and tidal conditions. I think it can be a good habit to take a photo of a beach from the same viewpoint each time, and compare them over time until you get a feel for the landmarks and then it's pretty easy to spot the sand movement. There are some videos on my channel from 2021 for example that the relic spots are now under an extra 3ft of sand, conversely the beach in this video was several feet lower than it was last year, but has started to build back up again already. Just have to strike at the opportune moments. :)
Awesome hunt Mish , Silver coins were jumping into your scoop lol. Had you hunted this beach before? ( I thought you said you had) and missed the Silver or was the legend the difference?
Thanks Kevin! Yes, been here before, but the erosion pattern was very different today so I was hunting different sections that I’ve never seen at such a level of erosion. They would’ve been out of range of any detector the day before, and they’re probably out of range again now. One has to act quickly on a beach with significant tidal ranges! Cheers. 😊

I've never hunted on the beach but I've rented a house a few blocks from it for late in the summer and I intend to try. Should I hope they have a massive storm that strips the sand off the beach a few days before I get there? Probably not but I sort of do. I'll have fun either way.

Thank you Roelf!! Breaking into the 1800's is exceptionally rare on my turf, so that's when I know the erosion is really doing it's job. I'd love to hear how you go with a beach hunt - there are some relatively inexpensive plastic hand scoops out there with drainage holes, that's what I started with and they're great if you don't beach detect very often. It's worth having one in the kit. Start looking at some google photos of that beach vs. rocks and landmarks, and make a comparison when you get there to see if it is higher or lower than usual. Happy hunting :)

Well done Mish on your haul of silver coins 😮 great work and as always good video. I’d like to ask as well what scoop and handle to you use it looks like a wide one and the handle doesn’t seem to bend. I Mainly do beaches and a mixture of sand and shingle. Many thanks 😊
Thank you so much! It's a Sito Scoop with a carbon handle, if you head to dirtfishmish.com/gear and then click on the Beach section, you'll find the exact link in there. I will say however that they're not designed for levering rocks, so perhaps a narrower but more heavy-duty scoop with a long point (easier to get between solid objects) may be more suitable for your needs. Cheap eBay tumbler with some better quality stainless steel tumbling media, and powdered burnishing compound :)

Love the hunt Mish! What a day! So many silvers, well done! Do you know of any instructional videos for beach hunting? I've been watching your videos and others for a while, I've hit four local beaches and only found a 20c (using legend) I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong.
Not a specific instructional video per se, but I try to drop tips here and there. Just remember, you can only find the items if they're there to find in the first place, potentially your beach has a lot of soft dry sand and the heavier targets have sank out of reach - or noone has sat there recently with coins in their pockets. Try to look for areas where the sand has been cut away due to erosion or a strong tide and see if you can get to items that would've previously been out of range. :)

Great hunt, Mish! How do you clean your coins to minimise damage?
I'm no expert in this domain, hehe. Spendables and those worn florins went into a coin tumbler with some stainless steel mixed media. The vicky shilling, pendant and a few other coins got a very brief rub with some bicarb soda mixed into a paste, but that's about it - the patina looks stunning on them as-is. The older coppers just had a quick rinse in clean water, then a dry brush with a nylon bristle brush. :)

Mish, what’s the best way to clean a 1952 shilling I found, I don’t have any special equipment is there a simple way do I use metho or what
Sorry for the delayed response mate - you could try sitting it in either some vinegar or some lemon juice for a bit (hour or two), give it a rinse, make a little paste with some bicarb soda and water and 'polish' it between your fingers - wash your hands after as the bicarb can be rough on skin! That should help bring it up a bit :)

Fantastic silvers specially the 1800’s which reminds me I’ve got to get to a spot where first ships unloaded lol ,only been out once past few weeks it’s been crazy with sand conditions I suspect things been washed up then dragged back into water 👍

Sorry for the delayed reply, congrats on the Legend! Don't overthink the settings - I use Multi-wet mode most of the time on the beach, sensitivity as high as it can be while remaining stable. Look for beaches with some history, and also sand movement as you want to hunt the spots that have a lower sand level than they typically would to maximise your odds. Cheers :)

Why so many old coins on this particular beach? Did it used to have a lot of people there at one time?
A couple of factors - plenty of historical usage, but also waiting on the right conditions meant that some of these patches of sand were 2-3ft lower than they usually would be, and thus I could access targets that would’ve sank out of reach many years ago. 😊

They’ve actually got orthotic soles which are necessary for me these days, and the feeling of coarse sand in wet shoes (that then suffer from wind chill worse than bare skin) is not pleasant. My feet were actually fine, it’s the face and core that were feeling it! Cheers. 😁

Yep, my thoughts to. I'm always wearing boots with dirt protective cloth which is good for send to. Also pushing the send with bare feet is dangerous because you've never know what's in the send. Lot's of sharp objects or needles.

I always find the coins at the beach are ruined by the salt water and sand , found a few silver coin , but all in a horrible brown colour and smashed thin so you can't read the detail. It's a shame :(. Wish I could find some nice ones in the park but just not having much luck at all lately..
Yeah, the sand blasting is definitely the price to pay for the beach finds, though they are abundantly easier to retrieve than from rocky/hard soil. Sometimes if there’s dune or cliff edge erosion the coins will still be in excellent condition as they’ve only just fallen out of the soil. I hope you stumble across a cache of old coins again soon mate. 😁
