Experience was something very special, they need to do a once a month episode and make it a long 3-4hr talk about the skating over the past month and catch up with one another.
This is really cool to see. I grew up skating Cheap Skates and remember seeing Pastras with Barker and hearing people say things about the street skaters. I didn't pay much attention. Only skating both the mini ramp and the Vert ramp. Which both were large! The mini was 6ft tall with a spine and the vert ramp was 12ft tall with 2ft of vert! Best vert ramp ever!! And Dan Tag along with Vallely used to kill the vert ramp!! Vallely with his ollie to fakies and Snake Man written on his grip tape! It was legit too! LOL!!
If I have to hear Kelly say oh I've never seen this about old Powell videos one more f****** time, I'm an escape from Maryland all the way to Venice, and make him sit there and watch all the first four Powell videos

One of my favorite kickflips ever done on film was Chris Cole down a set of stairs after he does a rail on a 411 video I think? And it does the exact same thing as Jason is talking about it’s super fast and just sucks up to his feet on the way up and he just floats down to land bolts gonna super fast. So beautiful to watch. That’s one of my favorite kickflips off top. There’s so many. Also I love Taylor’s kickflip from sidewalk to sidewalk going a thousand miles an hour that was pretty recent like a year ago ish? Anyone know which one I’m talking about. It’s down hill bump over sidewalk gap to bump. So good! That might be my number one. Also the huge 5 block kickflip floater. So many good kickflips that have been done !😊
Back in like 1999, I got to go skate with Gonz in San Francisco one night for a couple hours. All I wanted was a "Yeah Dan" moment from Mark. So I kept busting out switch kick flips and Mark asked me "How do you do those like that?" It didn't make sense to me because Mark had basically invented them 10 years ago, and maybe he was fucking with me, but I still accepted it as a "Yeah, Dan" moment. It was probably the best moment in my skateboarding life, and possibly my whole life in general. The only times that come close to that were the times I got to skate with Sean Sheffey and he would give me props on tricks.
Bryan Herman This is skateboarding- kickflip nose slide on a bench, flat ground nollie flip and 3 flip the double set at the high-school has the absolute best nollie flip in a line and doesn't ever get mentioned in relation to anything skate related list wise lol.
Crazy! I remember back then and thinking something similar, when an older guy showed up at our usual spot. He was 24 too, and I remember thinking "Isn't he a bit old for skating?" Kind of like it was a quarter life crisis thing and he needed to prove he could still do it. It's a shame though, I think that attitude caused a lot of talented people to change their life trajectory, I need to get a real job, I have responsibilities, skateboarding isn't a job it's a fun hobby...etc...etc. and when you do stop it haunts you, no matter how old you get, you always look at the streets in terms of how you would skate it.

The fast and poppy flick that they're all talking about in the kickflip conversation comes from riding skinny boards. That's an art that got lost to this ultra wide board trend. J Lee himself even says he really came into himself with the flow and the pow during the first Stereo video days. That fast flick and pow comes naturally with skinnier boards.

I love that Dune knew the little tidbit about Hosoi's Echo Park house once belonging to WC Fields. It speaks to how rad Stereo was, and how its whole aesthetic went way beyond skateboarding and incorporated an obvious knowledge of jazz, art, literature, etc.

There’s nothing wrong with skating as a hobby. I lost it years ago. Now my daughter is sort of into it. Now it’s fun just to carve the streets and do a simple flip trick every now and then
Maybe it’s just being a teen watching Jason but to this day when I see him skate I truly think he has the best steez in the history of skating. Can’t put into words it just is.
