    BMW i3 comes in a few different flavors and one of them comes with the range extender option. This option adds a small generator to the vehicle that allows you to extend the range on your electric vehicle. I, personally, love this option as it allows me to go much further on my EV without the fear of getting stranded, but this does add some additional maintenance to the BMW i3. One of those items is changing the oil once a year. BMW recommends putting new oil in every 12 months or 10,000 miles whether you run the generator or not since oil degrades over time. In this video, I show you how to change the oil on your BMW i3 w/REx for under $50. This is an easy DIY to tackle at home for anyone and save tons on dealership prices!
    BMW recommends 0w-30 oil for this engine, but I'm using 5w-30, please pick your own oil and go as per BMW's recommendations!!

    Error Correction:
    I misspoke in the video, the socket you actually need is a NOT triple square, it's a simple HEX socket. There is a link the description to a set you can get that will work for this.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have not tried it. It’s very simple on this engine to do it the standard way and you’d have to get underneath to change the filter anyway. I could see it being a better way for something like an n20 or n55 engine where filter is on top.

      First BMW i3 oil change, mI've done a lot of oil changes but first one for this car. As for raising the car up. I might have to as I have the i3s which rides lower than the i3. So, jack stands needed. And do use jack stands as I know of someone in the neighborhood who was crushed and died under his car. By the way the Amazon link for the oil filter comes up that it does not fit the i3 so not so sure about that. I usually go to a car parts store and they look on their computers for the right filter.
