- I'm taking the all-new Ford Focus ST on stunning roads in the south of France. I have a special guest, Leo Roeks, Chief Ford Performance Europe who's here to answer all my questions about this new sporty Ford. Fewer cylinders only provides an illusion of value. The smaller the displacement, the more RPM is needed to cruise/move (Torque x RPM = Power). More RPM results in exponentially more wear...
Engine wear = surface contact speed, squared
So small engines wear out exponentially faster than big ones.

There's absolutely nothing ordinary about Ford's racing history (alied with Cosworth tuning). Their engines alone have won more championships than any other manufacturer.

The 5 cylinder was a Volvo engine which Ford used while they owned Volvo. Since Ford doesn't own Volvo any more, that engine isn't coming back.

@Steve Ruddock unfortunately the Focus has been dropped by Ford in US/CAN, so no 2019 ST or 2020/21 RS for you 😢

Real Bummer, and just when the performance and styling are top notch, they decided not to sell them in the States. Yes, Anna, you are right to be sad about the 5-cylinder.. Even Porsche is putting a 4-banger in their Cayman. What a shame...And guess what ? In 10 years we will regret the 4 cylinders, because they sound GREAT compared to electric engines... This Ford is nice.. But yes, we will regret forever the RS 5-cyl...
Thays why I did not sold mine RS mk2 its 10yers old now But for some reason I have no problems with it its 490 hp 640Nm And I just cant get bored of it :D

Big ford fan, always have been, and I have focus myself, thankfully the better mrk 3. Personally totally do not like this model, only the one driving 😉, and please don't take the Honda civic out, think the designer must have been on something exotic on the day he drew up them designs, great video tho, 😘

I might be a bit unique but I’ve had a 2016 and 2017 focus ST1 and I’m currently driving a 2018 ST3. Who knows bring the new ST back to the US and I might have another new ST 😜

Hi Anna Alpina! Don't regret dirty engines; We cannot afford to do this foolish gasoline burning race just for the pleasure of our ears; Our grandchildren will surely curse us for being so careless about the environment.
On the optimistic side, in a few years, the progress in sound augmentation will make a clean electric motor "scream" like a 6.4L HEMI V8.

To be fair, that Honda would have to be compared with the Focus RS.
It’s really unfortunate that Ford killed all 4 door cars in North America. I like hot hatches and wagons more than SUV’s. The only time I need an SUV is if I’m headed to the glacial lakes of northern Canada for camping, and I can rent for those trips.

3:15 The in-line five-cylinder doesn't come back because it was a Volvo engine. And Volvo has limited itself to 4 cylinders for years. In addition, the 5 cylinder would no longer meet the emissions regulations - and a new development by Ford would cost too much money and in the end only 1,500 cars would be produced - simply does not pay off for Ford. Sad, but reality.

@@AnnaOnRoads I test Drove a Giulia 280 TB , and didn't notice. But I admit I didn't have a chance to push it a lot on the breaking side, so you may be right. As for the Stelvio , it can make things only worse, with more weight and higher mass distribution. What a pity, considering that the Alfa Factory is a short Drive from Brembo and Other talented brake makers...

As Leo mentioned, there is a commercial demand for it. At the end of the day, Ford is a business.

1:02 Faster in acceleration than an RS ? Now why would you do that? This kind of decision making gives me autism. It just isn't right!!! The RS should be KING, of EVERYTHING. Corners, accerleration, topspeed, G-forces, engine sound, size, HP and off course more flashy, whatever you name it.
You don't know what's around the corner for the new RS...
