Kody, skramz_ is correct ... cutting your OEM strut tubes near the knuckle/spindle and welding coilover sleeves is your best bet, this by far is the best way without negatively affecting suspension geometry.
Best to go s13 or s14 subframe. Yes it’s more money but not by much. Plus you’ll have a shit ton of aftermarket support on suspension and coils, won’t have to cut and weld.
Hey Dominik, thx you for dropping in your question! The coilovers help, our custom anti-roll/harness bar helped eliminate nearly all body roll when combined with the coilovers. Feel free to send us a private message regarding the anti-roll/harness bar if you're interested in more details.
Hey IH8Sn0wFal, thanks for the feedback/comment! We're using the OEM temp gauge, sometimes it doesn't work, so we have to smack the dashboard to get it working. We've never had concerning overheating issues. If we see the gauge creep up, we let the car cool off - but it takes a long time before the water temp starts to creep; pretty normal when any car is in mid-drift for a LONG time, as there is limited airflow going to the front of the radiator.
Ky, congrats! You need to swap front sub-frame to make room for Turbo. An easier path would be this manifold which re-locates Turbo: puckerfactoryfab.com/product/z31-relocation-manifold Otherwise, you'd have to source OEM components from online marketplaces, donor cars or scrap yard. Total cost truly depends on your desired setup/configuration, and how lucky you can get with sourcing used parts, etc. You'd probably end up spending close to $600-$1,200 (in parts alone) if you stick with OEM components (stock parts), and some supporting mods.
We're really not 100% sure of the brand since it came with the car, but if we were to guess ... Grant, Pilot or HKB. An S13 hub adapter should work on a Z31 and vice versa (the splines are the same).
We know what you mean! If it makes you feel any better, the Z32 is even harder to work on. We recently thought we blew our head gasket at a recent drift event (DriftHQ @ Immokalee Raceway), and it turned out to be the upper intake manifold/plenum gasket that helps seal the water jets in the intake mani; you may want to give that a look first before taking the heads off! :)
Tofu Gearheads i already took the heads apart like 3 months ago 😂 engine is seized so i'm using this paycheck to buy a rebuild kit so hopefully i can drift it !
more z31 footage please pleeeeeeease
We hope to share more footage soon!
I have an 85 300ZX I wanna get coils I know you gotta weld the spline to the bottom of the coil you choose but is there an easier way
No

unless you want to do an s13 subframe swap

What setup do you run on your z31? Looks like you have little to no body roll. My body roll is atrocious.

do you have an aftermarket temperature gauge? and do you ever encounter any overheating issues drifting or driving

Any idea how much it would cost in total to turbo the NA engine? Just got an 87 Z and really wanna turbo it.

What hub adapter are you guys using? Is it an s13 hub adapter?

i have a z31 but im trying to sell it, got it for free with blown headgaskets and wanted to drift it but its soooo hard to work on

stinky mx5 bro go vg33 from a pathfinder, it’s a drop in or buy another vg30, they’re not expensive. Like 500-600$ engines
Sick! I have a z31 too
nice! what year?
