osscouter ... Totally agree with your thoughts about Tommy as a drummer ... his feel & time just rocks ... his groove completely infectious, and he just nails the backbeat ... I love tommy's drumming, and in my book, his feel was second to none. He was a gentle and loving soul but an absolutely ferocious drummer, and we are lucky to have witnessed it all while he was here, and luckier yet that such a large body of work survives him, for all to enjoy for generations to come. May God Bless and Keep you Tommy Ardolino ... If heaven rocks and He ever needs a divine groove, someone to cause a joyous ruckus and just nail it on down ... I'm betting you're his right hand man.
Agree that NRBQ is one of the greatest "unsung" r'n'roll bands of all time. "Big Al" Anderson, Terry Williams, Joey Spampinato, &Tom Ardolino were just f'in great!!!
I do not think the NRBQ ever once worried about what the critics would say about their music, they just played because they loved it. Don't you wish more bands thought that way?
I'm still clueless as to why these guys weren't bigger than Elvis. They certainly are better. Amazing showmen, musicians, and the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. God bless NRBQ!
Wow!!! You won't believe this, but I have just discovered this song (better late than never I suppose!) via an advert for J D Williams! It was love at first hear! Couldn't take my eyes off of the way this guy plays the piano! Amazing!
I have hundreds, maybe over a thousand BW negs and color slides of these guys from Howard Johnsons Windsor Locks and Stage West in West HartfordConn to RIsland to Mass to NHampshire to the Bottom Line in NYC. None published most never printed. Dozens of guitar pics too. Book forthcoming. Jeff in Hartford Conn
Best live band ever. Saw them in '89 at Nightstage, Cambridge, MA, which was my favorite of the 6 times I saw them. Haven't bothered since Big Al left.
The great and passionate keyboard man for NRBQ lives in a wonderful world midway between Brubeck and Jelly Roll. If you understand jazz you'll understand the intentional dissonant notes he and Big Al sometimes play. Note Big Al applauding him for the solo at song's end. Great stuff.
@Boomclack I'd hardly call it playing like crap. Their syncopation and and dissonance is a lot more interesting to that than a big barrage of consecutive 16th notes. Not to much Joey and Tommy serve as a dynamic rhythm section Your life your tastes, but I'd hardly dismiss these guys as playing like crap
Sorry, with all due respect, I just dont see it, but this coming from a gtr player who sweats every nt to play like EVH or Lamb of God. I c how these guys can b fun at a frat party, "no rules" thingy, but the dissonant nature frags my shredder sensibilities. I respect the talent it takes to play, it just doesnt "jive" with my ear. Its got an arrogance to it. A "we're so good we can play like crap and still be in synch." So what. Nice hair though. lol cheers, music lovers.
The greatest rock and roll band ever.
These guys are simply SENSATIONAL
Tom Ardolino could well be the most overlooked drummer in rock, but he is truly outstanding and has been from day one.

Ahem- Terry ADAMS, if you please lol
Great bass player
Nothing beats the Q.....Nothing!!!!. Thanks for posting the Greatest Bar Band in the World.Peace.
They hate that “bar band” tag. Some critic liked to use it and it gets copied .
I do not think the NRBQ ever once worried about what the critics would say about their music, they just played because they loved it. Don't you wish more bands thought that way?
Straight FIRE!!

The best NRBQ: Terry, Tommy, Al, Joey 1974-1994
Da Q! My fav version of da Q

Best Bar Band....eva! lol Loved them at The Shaboo Inn, CT
Not an accurate or respectful title for such a great band.
Happy birthday, Terry
Thee band!!!
Really good setting.
THAT'S THE STUFF.
Best live band ever. Saw them in '89 at Nightstage, Cambridge, MA, which was my favorite of the 6 times I saw them. Haven't bothered since Big Al left.
2020 they're better than ever!
New 'Q well worth seeing, and I saw the "classic" lineup a bunch.
Happy 65th birthday Terry!

I'd say it's more Monk and Jerry Lee. Not Dave and Morton.
They wrote the book on having a good time playing music! Yeah, Daddy-O!
Terry is one cool cat.
“Excuse me, has anyone seen a woman wearing...?”

Is this video from an Austin City Limits show? Regardless, is a dvd of the entire set available? thanks
@teenbillybaby Looks like the set of the old "Night Music" show hosted by David Sanborn back in th late 80's
Yowza!
Sorry ... I know it's Adams ... I was drunk when I posted.
I do miss "Big Al"!!!
Agreed. But its Terry ADAMS......
@aristotletwain with some Monk sensibilities
I hear good ole' Jerry Lee on this track.
What a terrible replacement for Spampinato s vocals. His guitars are just right, indeed.
2:02 FAKE

Shredder sensibilities shred my sensibilities.
