    I have recently introduced some student choice into my kindergarten classroom and I love it. You are on point when you say that it gives students more sense of ownership when they get to pick what they are working on.

    Thanks for making this video! I'm an Elementary major and have always seen word study throughout my I termed searches but never took the time out to learn more about it. I am scheduled to take my assessments, methods, and curriculum ELA classes next semester, so this was a very helpful jumpstart! 😊

    I’m looking into how to use words their way in a homeschool... a lot of how you use it in a classroom I can’t understand s I’m not a Montessori teacher. How do you exactly work on those words. Do you have it set up by days like mondays are rainbow writing etc?

    Can you provide a link or example of some of the word study videos that your students access? I want to create some for my students as well, but seen an example would be super helpful.
    Thanks,

    What assessment do you use at the beginning of the year? Is it included in Words Their Way?

    • @BridgingLiteracy
      @BridgingLiteracy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the time, I did use Words Their Way assessment. Over the past two years, I have moved away from Words Their Way and developed my own method call Bridging Literacy. If you have the freedom to consider other options, you are free to look it at www.BridingLiteracy.com - You can download the free cheat sheet to get the unit progressions for 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

    Would love to see how you do word study for Kinder and 1st. How do you hold Kinder students accountable for word study?

    • @KyleThain
      @KyleThain 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeffrey, I use word study for my kindergarten students and I do it at the beginning of a guided reading lesson in small groups. For example I will have a group of 5 students with me at my guided reading table and we do a quick word study lesson right there before we write or read. After the small group lesson I give them a similar word study activity to work on their own.

    Hi, thanks for the great information in the video. I have a question about activities, though. I teach 1st grade and many of the sorts my students end up with are picture sorts. What are some activities you might have them do when they are sorting pictures of words they wouldn't be expected to spell? The emphasis on these sorts is hearing the pattern in the sounds. Any ideas are much appreciated, thank you! -Kara R.

      Unfortunately, I can't share those as products because the material belongs to 'Words Their Way'. I do offer a Patreon channel for those who are interested in going more in-depth into their own classrooms or topics. I use it to support the channel and work directly with teachers. Here is a link in case you are interested. www.patreon.com/TheLetteredClassroom
