One of the few stealth design vids I've watched that even acknowledges there being two distinct forms of stealth, predator and prey. SO many vids I've say how stealth is the opposite of a power fantasy and how stealth games make you vulnerable. And every time I roll my eyes because they CLEARLY have only played stealth games in which they are the prey, yet they're making a video talking about stealth design. Most stealth games in which you play the predator, are a full on power fantasies, a different power fantasy to be sure, but still very much one.
Highly detailed stealth and the option to use it is key. The choice to go unknown, murder everyone without a trace, or openly battle is really nice and I enjoy the freedom. Add in conversation trees and you got one hell of a game!
Just found your video in a Reddit link, i can not believe i didn't know about this channel before. Very high quality analysis and clever commentary. Subscribed.
I am not so sure if I want the stealth genre to be more popular. I just want more stealth based games to be made. MGS is the most popular stealth series but that isn't a good thing to me since I loathe it's fanbase so much.
@@mansreallysaid I wrote this a while ago and I view this in a new light. If a fanbase is overly harsh on something I am going to be more linenent, if they are too positive on something I am going to be harsher. Also, the more something is milked and the more a fanbase hypes up certain entries in a series, it might open up flaws that I would've never have noticed.
Only just came across your channel and you definitely have a new subscriber. I'm not even really a fan of stealth games tbh (not enough patience 😂) but I enjoy when creators like yourself put such dedicated effort in to breaking down what makes games so interesting. Definitely look forward to going through your back catalogue mate 👍
Invisible Inc is the best stealth game ever made. It's definitely a stealth game but also not really. It's actually a *strategy game* while other stealth games tend to be more like puzzles with room for different solutions (like you said).
I appreciate your vids but this one seemed to have lacked structure. Jumping between games as examples and repeating yourself a lot didn't make your point very clear. Here is to improvement

Why does the fanbase bother you? I understand that can affect how you feel about the games but you can still look past that and enjoy them right?

As a person developing a stealth/puzzle game (Project Chameleon soon on Steam), this video will be a great help!
