Our oldest lived at home through college, but we made him work and pay a decent rent. It definitely was a great lesson in adult life and showed us he did know how to be responsible. What he didn't know is we invested it all for him. When he buys a home or gets married, he'll be handed that money he doesn't know he has, which is still growing. He is also now very responsible and a saver. He works a 2nd job, putting that whole paycheck in savings every week.
Great video! I miss your weekly vlogs but I understand the reasons for stopping them. I would love to see a part 2. Some things I had heard you mention before and some I did not know. You are one of my favorites!

Just one. And I do! There is an adult dosage guide on the label.
Another piece of marital advice i would give is make sure you’re on the same page when it comes to disciplining your kids. My husband and i have been married for 18 years, together since we were 19 so not really something we were thinking of when we got married BUT now that our kids are teens it’s been kind of a big deal.

I started my girls on a monthly allowance when they were each 15 so they would learn to budget. There were a few things we covered like cell phone and swim league fees/trips, but they had to cover everything else. That meant no more back to school budget etc. If they needed practice suits and googles, they had to cover them. They learned very quickly that money is finite.

Hi Marnie! I have a QUESTION! Do you enjoy home decor or interior design? I love your kitchen decor! Did you have your home built or have you had anything remodeled to your taste?
Life skills for high schoolers: (as you mention, how to budget for weeks or a month, how to do laundry, writing checks, using an ATM), how not to procrastinate, how to keep a room or apartment clean (vacuuming, dusting, how to launder and fold sheets & towels, how to do dishes), personal safety, making good decisions (drinking, not driving while texting, etc.).
I never did pick up how to not procrastinate! 😉

Hi Marnie. Discovered your channel recently when searching for Alaska cruise info. Your advice was great! Anyhow, scrolling through your videos, I saw you had mentioned Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I’m waiting on a thyroid diagnosis and much of the info on web can be quite negative. Thank you for being candid about that while there may be some blips and adjustments, that all can be ok. How did you find an endocrinologist who also keeps up with newer guy theory science? My daughter has celiac, so I do eat mainly gf too, but not all the time.
It was total luck and I am SO thankful I found him!!
Great tip about choosing positivity! You can learn this behavior and actually change your brain in the process. Cool, right?

I’m really curious about how you thin out your closet. Goodwill? Women’s Shelter? How often you do a closet cleaning? How long you keep items? I ask because you purchase so many items and/or are given so many it seems like you would need to do this frequently.
I do it quarterly. A mix of donations to a variety of places.

I love seeing all the lilacs in the spring along the road in Pennsylvania. I also miss brick houses. In California we don't have brick houses because of earthquakes. Hey Marnie! I'm very interested in getting info about the no place for hate program. New Braunfels doesn't have anything like that to my knowledge.
If you go to the Anti-Defamation League’s website they have a whole section on the program and how to set it up in your school. They’re a great resource. Learn about their program and then set up a meeting with the principal and/or PTA president to help facilitate the start.
Heh Marnie! Just so you know, if you are gluten free (not sure for how long), after a while you won't have the enzymes necessary to process gluten so you will have to be gluten free. I didn't know that and just recently found that out so just wanted to share that with you :)

Love you, Marnie - I've finally found someone on YT I totally identify with (mid-50s, Jewish, grammar nazi, avid reader, passionate about literature, and, well, makeup). But I have to argue with you on reform Jews. The vast majority of Jews I have known (New Yorker here) consider themselves (ourselves) reform and atheist. You can absolutely identify as a Jew and not believe in god.
I understand that you don’t have to believe in God to be Jewish, but the question was are reform Jews atheists. The answer is unequivocally no. The basic tenet of all Judaism is a belief in God. The Reform Judaism website (URJ) says that faith is a cornerstone of Reform Judaism.

The empty nest thing is real! However I think it bothered me more coming to the realization that having children was over for me. I was excited for my kids getting out on their own, as I am sure you are as well, just the thought of my factory being shut down was more traumatizing, weird I know! Thanks for your videos. I don't have any questions but I do have a comment. I think you are an inspiration for all of us that have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. You've motivated me to try making simple gluten free dishes. Just because it's gluten free doesn't mean it has to be difficult or awful tasting. And your over all attitude is just great especially when it comes to Hashimoto's. Thank you for such encouragement.
Marnie - is there a Soft Surroundings in San Antonio? I would love to see you in that store trying stuff on. Aside from their clothes (which they are very proud of price-wise) the lighting in their dressing rooms is so noticeably fabulous. I wish I could live in their dressing rooms.

Love you Marnie. My girl Hannah, will graduate from Ole Miss in May. I have been trying to book a room,, but apparently a lot of families are doing the same. We had rooms booked and then they told us they were double booked online...so we are perturbed by that. But we will be there if we only get to come up the day of the ceremony. Just aggravated because we tried booking months and months ahead. Hopefully it will all work out. I know Jake has another year, but its an exciting time for us. Still live Ole Miss even though I'd heard that some kids were showing more interest in Soutern Miss due to the closeness to the beach.
