I'll speak honestly. I just passed the CPA exam, 16 months of studying everyday, I took a total of 2 weeks off. I studied almost a year alone on FAR as I went a mile deep on every topic which you dont have to do but I wanted to really understand everything. 3 days later I started studying for the LSAT for law school. I only have 2 friends I rarely see, I don't really socialize, and I only care about education and career. I am a man as you can tell. I cant speak for others but I assume many are also like me. The problem with being in the highest level of positions of power like partner is that there is a limited supply and people are even more hungrier to them then me. Most women I know want children, relationships, and socialize much more then men. There is absolutely zero wrong with this and I am not shaming women but to understand what you are explaining we need to understand what the cause is. All of our time and effort is relative to the next person who if is willing to outwork us will get the rewards. Women can get in these positions but they have to make significant lifestyle decisions and determine if these things are worth giving up. Not all men even want to give their lives for work.Truly you have to become sociopathtic in many ways. If you disagree with any of this my mind is open but its just the way I see it
Great video!!! As an incoming auditor & women of color, I feel empowered to know we are beating the odds. Hopefully, within the next few years we can increase the representation of WOC :)
Ayyee! Congrats! 💕 and yes, hopefully in the future representation can be increased. I see firms already taking initiatives to be more diverse in recruiting.
Public Accounting can become more stressful as you move up and some people I know that left because the stress was not worth it. Or they rather be chasing their passions. We do need more representation in corporate America but the truth is we need more students of color to study accounting, finance, and STEM. Students are going into lower paying fields that are totally unrelated. I think schools should try to encourage more students to study accounting. I just graduated college (I’m from California) and there was only 26 accounting students in my graduating class. I was the only black student.
Yes, i agree. I think another issue is that people may not have enough role models or people to look up to in accounting who are people of color, so I am happy that we have so many youtubers who can represent and encourage more students to see that they can have a spot in the field too. 😊 When I graduated, there was definitely a lot of diversity in my graduating class and were accounting and finance majors, but I do believe overall, more students should find interest in accounting, finance, and STEM, because they are great fields.
Yes, I think so too and I see women of color who are in higher positions like manager and above and women who are in entry positions who are killing it! 👍🏾🙌🏾
Ive seen black women partners at my old firm.... but granted, it was because I went to a week long company sponsored event that was strictly for the black employees nation wide. I only met 1 black male partner in my actual office.
Wow, I wish I could meet her one day. I would love to speak with her on her experiences and career progression. I've met one black male partner at a firm I interned at and I thought it was cool.

Well said. I agree, and I'm a woman. We're just built differently, and that's the beauty in men vs. women.

I believe women of color can succeed in public accounting if they put their minds and efforts to it, and I think that is good.
