This was very timely, haha- thanks to full seat silicon breeches ( it feels like cheating somehow!) my posting has gotten much more controlled and from the knee, I can finally start to fine tune things like this! Can't wait for my next lesson! Great as always!
My mare likes to rush in the trot. I sing a song to myself to maintain the rhythm in my body and don't let her get off the rhythm of the song. Weird? Maybe, but it works for us. LOL
Amelia, thank you for breaking down these concepts and making them easier to understand and execute! I do have a question about hand position. I have the hardest time with the reins - as in I allow slack in the reins. I also have a difficult time holding the whip across my thigh. Can you please help with these issues? Thank you!!
This is what most people including many instructors do not quite understand about regulating tempo with posting.. Slowing your posting is NOT posting in "slow motion" (which so many people do... Doing it this way *does* slow the horse down, but mainly because it causes you to stiffen up your whole body to try to slow the whole motion down), it is simply posting normally but sticking in the seat for a moment longer (I explain it as a wad of gum that someone left on the seat and it sticks you to the saddle for a moment longer before you can come out of the seat again). Same with speeding up tempo, it is not going up and down faster like a sewing machine..
Realistically, how long would you say it takes of posting slower or faster before a horse adjusts their tempo? I was practicing this today and found it would take 3-10 strides before I felt like my horse matched the tempo I was posting.
Hi Amelia, I hope you are doing well. Thanks for all your advice. Now I have less fear on posing trot. But I have a quesiton on the stability. Sometime when I feel the rythem is good, and still continue posing, the horse slows down; sometime I feel the horse is too fast to catch up, I used my reins, intend to slow her down, but she directly stopped. To slow down the tempo, in addition to slower moving, is there anything else I should do? thanks a lot.
I know I squeeze the reins sometime when I do posting trot, does this trigger the tension of the horse? is this the main reason for her speeding up? and/or suddenly stop? thanks
very effective using a slow-motion style horse; lovely big horse; can't wait to get new saddle to use this technique as demonstrated; current saddle has me landing on pommel.....and saddle slipping right back....annoying and surely annoying and uncomfortable for horse; high withers can be withering.
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage THANKS AMELIA! However, I will only consider it if it has your name on it. :) Love the tips on trotting. I'm so confused about my knee pivot and elbow position. And I think I might have scrambled too many eggs. My wrists are a little sore. Less is more, less is more. less is more I keep telling myself.
I would agree if it was a different issue she was teaching, like a horse that bucks into the canter or something, but she could be riding a donkey in a hackamore for this video, as it's only focusing on the riders seat.

No, I think that’s a great idea! I talk to my mare a lot, especially when she gets tense. If I don’t, she thinks I am ignoring her and takes over😂
Soo helpfull thank youu.. U have a very different way of explaining and tips compared to the rest

How to the posting trot for the horse

Riding patterns and figures will also help! Try counting the strides out loud!
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage thanks a lot for your help!

Yes it sounds like that may be impacting the trot tempo!
My what a beautiful tail:) thank you for the tips!

this mare is not regular in the extended trot....
Ok that's great, but let's talk about more important issues like WHERE DID YOU GET THAT AMAZING SPRING RIDING SHIRT?
:)
Kastel Denmark!

I knew that, because it was in my Dover spring catalog, haha! And you wore it in another video where you were just talking! It IS a gorgeous shirt!
I wish people would use horses actual people have. Not ones already in a double
