Here's a brief summary of Canadian railroad crossings. So, these crossings have a lot of things in common to railroad crossings you'd find in the United States. However, there are certainly some noticeable differences, with the biggest difference being the crossbuck. Since 1986, Canada has used the style of crossbuck that you see in pretty much almost all crossings in Canada, having a red outline and no text at all unlike in the US. Before the year given above, most areas had similar crossbucks to the US, except they displayed "Railway Crossing" instead of "Railroad Crossing". In the province of Quebec though, the crossbucks there were unique, being multi-lingual ones. Those crossbucks there displayed the text in English and French. Although not really noticeable if you're not a crossing buff, but Canadian crossings are known to having less of a variety of lights and bells. Unlike most parts of the US, 12x20" lights highly dominate here in Canada, with almost all of them having either GE Uniform Look or Harmon Fading for LED inserts due to Transport Canada regulations, although there are a few exceptions with some railroads. Because of the regulations, almost all of the old incandescent lights (mainly being 8" lights) are gone from all of the mainlines. Many of those lights were also replaced along spurs/branchlines and shortlines as well. So, enjoy a nearly 20-minute compilation of Canadian railroad crossings from coast to coast.
Also noting that since this is a compilation, almost all of the videos that have been put here were shortened by a lot. So, feel free to ask me to link you to the full videos of these crossings.

Great video! I would also say that another major difference between the US and Canada is how lax Canada seems to be with the implementation of quiet zones.

Great comp! I recognize some of these crossings from older videos, and 6:15 is quite a blast from the past!

Great video! I've always loved that most of these crossings are located in a scenic area.

I find that mechanical bells especially seem to be hard to find on crossings in Canada, especially on CN lines. CP is more tolerant of mechanical bells and other older equipment, while CN seems to be on a mission to replace everything with Safetran/Siemens equipment.

That seems to be the case, at least in the east coast. In the west though, both CN and CP have been replacing equipment pretty much at the same rate.

Canada should add the "Railway Crossing" crossbuck back, instead of depleting the words.

That's the LRT in Edmonton, I believe the grade crossings are regular sized lights, the small lights are often near stations as most stations are center platforms

Absolutely wonderful video but it’s really sad that that I live on Vancouver Island and we have a rail way and we are not using it and passenger rail service stoped in 2011 and freight rail In 2015 it would make my day if the Vancouver Island railway corridor could be restored to operating condition soon
