My sister was so horrendously bullied in high school by this dude who would make fake instagrams every day to tell her to harm herself so I catfished him for so long, made him fall in love, and broke his heart. Today I feel bad about it but compared to the things he did to people it feels justified.

hearing them talk about how plus sized women are either fetishised or ignored makes me so sad. i’m not plus sized but i’m disabled so some of the things we experience can overlap i think. like the “you’re pretty for a disabled girl” is something plus sized women have heard or about how our partners could obviously never be attracted to us because we’re plus sized or disabled. it’s like our partners are saints because they’re with us. we’re not charity work. we have so many things to offer in a relationship and there are so many things to like. physical properties really mean nothing in these situations. it’s about people seeing plus sized people as inherently unattractive because they don’t fit a societal norm, disabled people as undateable because we’re infantilised or seen as some sort of burden.
if you are struggling with feeling lovable or your self image isn’t great, it’s okay. i understand. it’s hard not to compare yourself to all the perfect airbrushed people we are bombarded with online, but you are so beautiful and you are so worthy of love whether that be romantically, platonically, from parents or family members etc etc. i’m sending my love to anyone and everyone who needs it 💓

I've been catfished before and I call it the chicken story. (It will make sense in the end, trust me.)
Back when I was 18 (she also claimed to be 18) I first started the whole online dating thing on an app called Meet Me and I matched with this girl who I thought was pretty cute and she happened to live less than 10 minutes away from me which is unheard of for lesbians as we usually have more luck 1k miles away. We talked for a couple days, and she wanted to meet, and I was like, score! Send me the addy. She sends it and I hop off in my best and pull up to her house. First, she had a really obscure name, and I couldn't pronounce it and I was too embarrassed to ask how to say it at this point, so I was stressing about how I was going to ask for her if she didn't answer the door.
I walk up and knock, nothing. I knock again, and I see the blinds next to the door rustle and open a little bit and shut like someone peeking through. No answer, so I knock ONE last time before I ditch the situation and she answered. First, she told me she was 5"2 and she seemed not very heavy in her pictures. She was easily 6'6" and a big gal. I was trying to not look shocked because I didn't want to hurt her feelings, but she was a Viking of a woman and was unironically wearing a rainbow fur tail. Easily could have broken my skull open if she wanted. I am scared but too polite to do anything. She invites me inside and she had like, barely any furniture? And her house smelled like feet REALLY bad, and I was like oh god help me. I ignore it, we sit on her single couch in the middle of this barren living room and she is showing me her Tumblr edits on her laptop on a broken tv dinner table because she was proud of them, and I was not into it. Then she proceeded to grab my thigh sexually and her sister joined us at this time and sat on the other side of my and started to do the same thing and I PANICKED. I tried to make an excuse to leave but you know those people who follow you to your car and keep talking? Yeah, she was one of those. So, I lied and said I got called into work and she was like, let me show you something first really quick. I have a cool manga collection in my room! Me, naive and wanting to LEAVE said yes. We walk up the stairs to her bedroom and I was not prepared...
Her room was full of chickens.
Full grown, chickens. At least 20 of them. They shat everywhere. Her bed, carpet, table, shoes, EVERYWHERE. No cages, free roaming bedroom chickens. She showed me her bathroom that was in her bedroom, the bathtubs was full of baby chicks, she was actively breeding them in her bedroom.
I AM TERRIFIED OF CHICKENS THIS IS MY WORST NIGHTMARE.
I'm like, so cool wow okay I am leaving now. I am walking out the door and her mom comes home and gave me a hug and said, I have heard so much about you! Which scared me more and then her mom invited me to a Halloween party they were having later that week and my catfish was BEGGING me to go and I said I would so she would let me leave and I blocked her from the front of her house.
She proceeded to stalk me for about 3 years via the internet.

When you all started talking about how plus size girls are essentially treated as non-existent and that guys only go for the sexy skinny girls struck a chord with me. As a plus size gay man, I can say this happens in our community too. I'm young, not ugly, and told all the time that I have a killer personality; however, I never get given a chance by guys that I find attractive bc I'm not the super skinny twink or the super hot athletic guy. They only want to be friends bc I'm not sexually attractive to them bc I'm a bigger guy. It CRUSHES me sometimes when this happens bc I was raised to not take looks into consideration (the old "it's what's on the inside that counts" way) by my parents. It SUCKS LIKE CRAZY to be rejected but bc of superficial stuff that shouldn't matter makes it even worse.

    • @pixie9499
      @pixie9499 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

i hate to say it, but maybe you’re looking at the wrong people? i know of famous gay icons that are or are dating someone “plus-sized.” for example, trixie mattel, or brian firkus, is not necessarily a “conventionally attractive” man. his longtime partner is a gay man that would be considered a “bear,” or a larger gay man, usually with body hair but not as a rule. in the male gay community, there is unfortunately a lot of categorizing by body type, whereas women have categorization by style or personality. the plus side to this? there is _ALWAYS_ going to be a demographic of men that are attracted to Bears, sometimes they’re attracted to _only_ bears. it mostly falls under preference when you think about it that way. there _ARE_ men out there that find _YOU_ attractive just as you exist right now, it just may take you a bit of time to find them. your dating pool could be affected by the general culture of the area you live in or other similar things. like in LA, the men will most likely seek out the common WeHo Twink™️. but most, liberal, diverse places will have plenty of places for you to find your man, you just gotta look a little!
sorry for the ramble, really. i just remember when i had the mindset that bc i’m not skinny with a flat stomach, i’m undesirable to everyone. but i’m small/short (which i find for some reason is desirable? probably similar to tallness) and i have other features that the people i’m seeking tend to be attracted to, like bigger eyes, round face, etc. don’t get me wrong, i’m not in the mirror looking for things about myself. but i promise, there is someone, many people, out there that will adore you and want to engage with you intimately bc of what you look like AND bc of the kind of person you are. _YOU ARE WORTHY._

@@jonroth123 using shane dawson as a comparison isn’t a good idea at all. you can have your opinion on him and worship him or whatever, but there _a lot_ of people on the internet that don’t like him, have problems with him and could even be triggered due to his previous actions. as a fan of shane yourself, i think you could potentially understand why it’s important to consider triggers. also, largely blaming OP for their feelings is not the move. you essentially said “sorry, but you’re wrong to feel that way.” i’m sorry, but shane dawson is too famous for his own good so him finding a relationship with a twink bc he had lots of money and fame and maintaining it through everything that’s been exposed about him bc there’s still money and fame isn’t the flex you think it is.
TL:DR - love shane dawson all you want, but don’t force that predator on anyone else. also, you’re not good at pep talks bc you like to victim blame.

@pixie and @TheMany-FacedGod, also, the term bear normally refers to gay men who are plus sized and hairy. I, however, don't have hardly any body hair so I don't fit in that category either. Plus I've lost a significant (100+ lbs) amount of weight so I unfortunately have places that sag badly with extra skin. Even though I cover those spots with my clothes, I still don't get any attention. I've lost weight, I look cute, and I have a good personality but still I might as well be invisible.

Very niche, but very fun reads about MLP, competitive pen spinning, the Sims, fanfinction, etc. Many posts are about communities you've likely never even thought would exist, yet the drama is always entertaining.

I don’t know many skinny people understand the harm that society causes on plus sized people though… I’ve had to explain this to my boyfriend because we are on the opposite sides of the scale as well. I am a plus size women with lipedema a fat cell disease, he has another auto immune disease and a fast metabolism so he is slim. Sure he’s gotten some comments, but it’s not the same and my constantly bullying even as an adult +medical oppression + physical everyday struggles + mental struggles + historical struggle + financial struggle +equality struggle etc. If you’re ever genuinely curious you should look up a introduction to fat liberation.

I’m still fighting for my treatments and the medical help I deserve, in fact I’m having to move to another state for it etc. in my adulthood in still fighting for disability, fighting to get my disease recognized, fighting to get marriage equality and of course, fighting so little girls like me won’t have the words “thunder thighs” carved in their minds about them since elementary school. They're still creeps to my friends so I'm not saying it's worse for me, just obvious who they are. In fact I think this is why I'm scared to talk to "attractive" men because I don't feel like I'll be accepted even as a friend.
I truly believe that it may actually have been easier to date as a plus size girl though, because I wasn't sifting through creeps who just wanted sex or liked me only for my looks. Those are still there, but way less. I'm not ugly, but it is so different than my friend's experiences and what they've told me about. Luckily, I found the perfect man who encourages me to be who I want to be and not care about what others think and I hope everyone who wants that finds it.

I have a really weird story about catfishing. So I catfished my current S/O at first, we are in our early 20’s now, but we originally met playing online games together when we were 14 and 15. Being 14 on the internet I was SUPER scared and made this entire false identity named Jessica. Fake pic, claimed I was 16, different state, parents, the whole deal. Eventually I got so fearful of my lies catching up with me I just blocked him on everything, at this point I was 15 years old. Flash forward 2 years when we are 17 and 18 and turns out he is friends with one of my friends and we get back in contact. After talking for a while I trust him enough and tell him everything about who I am, show him a picture of me etc. He didn’t care that I cat fished him originally at all, and he just loves me for me. That is an extremely simplified version of this story but thought I’d share, we have been dating for 3 years now! (EDIT: Typos)

The reason why hamsters die so much and eat their babies is really sad actually. They know they don’t have adequate space or care, so they basically abort the babies to save them a life of starvation. Hamster cages are never enough space, hamsters are constantly malnourished and stressed and that’s why they die so easily. We basically abuse these tiny animals to the point of death and making them turn to killing their own offspring for mercy. This whole segment made me really sad while you were laughing about it, I know you didn’t know but it’s really sad.

Same I got really upset listening to it cause I’m also someone that’s extremely interested in proper hamster care and working at a pet store I see people that joke about how their past hamsters die and I have to calmly explain that they are very fragile animals that cannot be housed together, the hamster balls are unsafe, and the only suitable “cage” sold at a pet store for them is a 40 gal breeder tank with a minimum of 6”(10” preferred) bedding depth. So many people don’t understand that hamsters are often neglected or down right abused because these companies do not train their employees correctly in the actual care of these animals. I have to constantly educate my coworkers on stuff that’s basic information in hamsters and I’m lucky enough they are accepting to the information! I really wish all pet stores would just ban the unsafe products, small cages, and housing hamsters together……maybe all these sad ass hamster deaths wouldn’t happen😭

I got catfished in middle school by my best friend lmao. I was "in love" with this stupid boy that clearly wasn't good for me but I was naive. She made up these two dudes (one for me and one for her; they were brothers) to try to get me to dump the stupid boy. I would email and text this beautiful dream boy off and on. She would tell me stories about how she hung out with them. (I had strict parents and couldn't do much). I can't remember how long this went on. My friend had an incredible story about these dudes that would be too long to type but I bought into it lol. To summarize, these dream boys were in a band and traveled a lot (LOL). To this day, my friend (we've grown up and move on in our lives) has never admitted that she catfished me. I'm not mad because I didn't get too emotionally invested but its funny to think about now. I think she had good intentions. I haven't built up the courage to ask her about it now that we are adults.

My friend and I had to do a report on Prince Edward Island in middle school and all the articles we found were boring so we made a fake profile on a Canadian dating site. Matched with a dude and asked him a bunch of questions about his “hometown” and the island in general because i said I was “planning on moving there this spring”
It always stayed innocent thank goodness because omg I was like 13 but we talked every day after I got home from school. I ghosted him after a week and deleted the profile. Sorry, Jack. Hope you found love.

Sarah: Well, I’ve had lots of moments that could be interesting.
Brittany: No not about you, just things that happened while you’ve been alive.
Sarah: I guess my journey from conservative Christianity to being queer.

Brittany mentioning her experience with a homeless person peeing on the wall at Baskin made me think of the time my bartender boyfriend let a homeless lady use the nice hotel/restaurants bathroom he worked at. Later they went to clean the bathrooms and they found one of the stall doors had been ripped off and she had pooped on the floor. Things like this happen all the time.

Came to TH-cam from my podcast app to say this: Y'all just reminded me of high school trauma with the whole plus size conversation. As a teenager (I'm now 25), I had a best friend who was very conventionally attractive, and when we'd go in public people would constantly come up to us to tell her she was so pretty and they wouldn't even acknowledge me standing next to her. A lot of times it was adult women. It was like I was invisible. When she and I talked about it, I learned it made her feel just as bad as it made me feel. She didn't think she deserved the attention and she felt dehumanized by it just as much as I did. When people only treat you a certain way bc of how you look (whether it's for being pretty or not based on their standards), you're being treated as an object either way.

I’ve been 3 forms of catfished thru the years.
In 2010 I was catfished by someone who got close to me, we “dated” and then they killed their fake persona off.
Had photos of myself (when I was a scene queen) used by others. I was just told about this, I had never actually came across the accounts myself.
And actually recently (November 2021 to current) have been ACCUSED of being, a group of not connected people’s, catfish. Although I provided proof I had no connection, and even one of the people talked directly with me for weeks and specifically said I was not the same person and they could tell. One of the ladies (literally 48 year old woman) is still claiming it’s me and stalks me on tiktok.

So yay for catfish stalkers 😄 it’s not a hot girl summer without a stalker

For anyone interested, there is a podcast series about the "how could you be strung along for nine years?" radio host person that goes in depth about how she was a victim of emotional abuse along with being catfished: Sweet Bobby. I felt the need to come to her defence a little when one of you said something like "that must be a seriously lonely person." Prolonged emotional abuse can really mess with your sense of reality; it's extra bewildering and scary to think that abusers can find targets at a distance and/or through a screen. Not to mention there is virtually no legal protection for that type of abuse. I recommend checking out the podcast series to learn more about how this person was so deeply taken advantage of. Thank you for this episode and for generally being awesome people! x

I too had hamsters growing up, and I will say as a child, I should not have been in charge of a small life form. BUT when my brother and I were 6-7. We watched Stewart little and we wanted pet mice so badly. My mother took us to the pet store and got each of us one mouse. We housed them together, and they were fine for a little while.
Then one day, my mom was cleaning the cage while my brother and I were at school. And she found one of the mice had no head, blood everywhere in the cage, and the other mouse, covered in blood still eating the head of the dead mouse. The one mouse had killed the other, decapitated it, and started eating the evidence. My mom ended up cleaning up the mess, and took the mouse to the pet store and returned them all before we got home from school. My mom never told us till years later.

For me it's been very interesting to see how I'm starting to care less and less about thinness the more I accept that I'm fully just GAY. Like, when i still thought I was bi i wanted to get muscular but there was always this clinging self hatred at the idea of not being also very lean. Now that I'm finally accepting the idea that i just don't like men like that, im also acclimating to the concept of being someone's big beefy wife. Muscles and fat and all. And it's such a relief

When I was in high school, one of my best friends at the time used to catfish people frequently. One day, she told me she got caught by one of the girls whose pictures she used and acted like they were in contact. She showed me the girls profile, then that girl added me. I thought she was really pretty and she was super nice to me. Very naive 15 year old me thought she was actually real and we started flirting.
This friend and I are hanging out one day and I’m texting the girl, only to realize my friend is getting notifications from me. She pretended to be a girl she was already pretending to be.
In a surprising twist, this friend and I started dating because she was one of the few other queer girls in my town and I was very desperate for sapphic love. Not surprisingly it lasted a week or two and we broke up. Oh, and we had both dated the same guy months before and both broke up with him, so when this girl and I were dating he spread nasty rumors about us both to the football team to try to heal his bruised ego. Anyways yeah there’s one of my many catfishing stories 😅

i was in a kik group chat with a bunch of online friends and two of them started online dating for two years, but the guy would be really sketchy never want to facetime or meet etc. they did end up facetiming a few times so everyone thought he was real. the girl took a trip from PA to florida with her family to meet him and when she got there to meet, he never showed up and claimed he was on the way and then his phone died and didnt have the address so he turned around and went home. i forget how we eventually figured it out but turns out he was a lesbian woman who had been catfishing us for several years using pics of her friends brother. and the times they facetimed she got the brother to do it (i remember her saying how he acted so weird on the phone and thats cuz he had never spoken to her before or knew who she was) they exchanged nudes and everything . and my friend was college age at this time. the sad part is i stayed friends with the catfisher after this happened beacause i still liked our long online friendship loll a couple other peoepl stayed friends with her too...
