    Astonishing his totally successfully infusing of early 20th century esthetics in this so antique piece. First hearing for me. A delight.

    That Adagio is something indescribable. Respighi was such an awesome composer.

      Yes. He was beyond gifted. A lot of his music sounds so other-worldly...like, not of this Earth, for lack of a better description. A lot of it is also rather religious. The Concerto Gregoriano, his other (more substantial) Violin Concerto, certainly is. He made the comment once, "There was no other way for me than to be a composer."

    Non so perché non supporto musica del periodo neoclassico di Strawinsky, per es., mà questo Concerto di Respighi, come multe altre compozitioni, e un vero capolavoro. Un grande piacere de ascoltare.
    Grazie mille Wellesz Theatre.

    No matter how you classify it, one of the great violin concertos of time! Respighi always pulls the soul! Paganini lives as a romantic!

Echt Bewundernswert!

    I learned this piece quite awhile ago now, and am really glad I did. I think it could be described as a baroque concerto with a forward eye. It's not as profound as the Concerto Gregoriano but it's still a very noble sort of piece.

    Respighi at his most classical. Easy to imagine this work coming from 1768, not 1908.

    Respighi was a violinist, a little-known fact. His violin works are all splendid.

    • @bricecoustillas2176
      @bricecoustillas2176 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, he was not a violonist: he would play the viola (one fifth lower than the fiddle) and, as such, was taken on by the Saint-Petersburg Orchestra before he began his career as a composer (and there took lessons with Rimsky). But, what is more, he could hold his own at the piano. I you care for the violin I dare recommend you the Poema autunnale, by the sam - a pure masterpiece.

    • @BenjiOrthopedic
      @BenjiOrthopedic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bricecoustillas2176 And just how do you know this? Were you there with him at the time or something? Large talk for someone who didn't even live during his lifetime - oh shame on me, were you born in like 1900? I do play the Poema Autunnale, I actually play all of Respighi's works for the violin including the smaller ones like the 5 pieces for violin and piano AND this Concerto d'al Antica and the better-known Concerto Gregoriano.
      Sorry I didn't see this a year ago when you wrote it but it was hidden from my feed. *For someone who didn't play the violin, as you claim, he sure wrote well for the instrument. (He did play the violin though. There is enough evidence of that out there, I think.)

      @@BenjiOrthopedic You are simply ill-informed; refer to the biography of O. Respighi by his widow Elsa. By the way, Respighi was not born in 1900, but much earlier - check for yourself and, for God's sake, do not indulge in picturing yourself as a deity on the ground you play the violin.

    • @BenjiOrthopedic
      @BenjiOrthopedic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bricecoustillas2176 Oh go away. I never said he was born in 1900. Obviously you are just an arrogant nitwit who has nothing better to do than troll and call people "ill-informed." I never said I was a violin deity but I am incredibly flattered you gave me that title. By the way, I do know off the top of my head that his widow outlived him for like 60 years, and she died in the 90s. She was just a child when they married so I seriously doubt she remembers every last detail about his life, and she was not even in his life for a good chunk of time during his early career. Who's ill-informed now?

    • @TwiZoneInc
      @TwiZoneInc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bricecoustillas2176 I don’t see that he ever said Respighi was born in 1900. You obviously have some ego problems yourself. Respighi was most definitely a violinist. His marriage to Elsa was not until after his formative years as a musician and composer had ended. She was also many years younger than him and died only like 25 years ago. So I wouldn’t even take her words as law. You’re really full of yourself and have no right to make these dumb assertions and run other people down. Bye.

      Perchè Respighi era parte dell'Accademia d'italia ed era un massone, quindi non abbastanza di sinistra o cattolico per essere considerato nel panorama culturale italiano del secondo dopoguerra, in cui non è mai esistita di fatto una classe intellettuale di destra. Ma fa specie che oggi non si mettano da parte queste baggianate politiche per ascoltarsi della bella musica che di politico ha nulla!

      The painter is Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto who lived in Venice in the 1700s.
      This painting shows the inside of the famous rotunda (demolished in 1805) at Ranelagh Gardens in Chelsea. (London)
