Whomever created the installation software for this thing should be ashamed. I spent hours getting my mom's printer installed. It wasn't this bad or slow in the floppy days. I install world class 3D DCC software and it's neither this slow or this prone to utter and complete failure. And this was over USB. The stupid printer would go to sleep while the installation software basically impersonated a stroke victim and just sat there with no indication that anything was happening. In fact, the whole time it sat there offering no feedback looking like it was doing nothing it was, in fact, doing nothing based on the Task Manager. I finally achieved satisfaction by canceling, uninstalling all Canon software, re-booting and then doing *JUST* the driver and the one "My Printer" or whatever, and not all the extra bloatware, just to try to let it beat the printer going to sleep or dropping off. That still didn't work, the install software punked out like it had all morning trying to do a full install, only this time I was able to abort that abortion of a software install tool and just use the utility program to "repair" the printer. Voila, working printer. I know to stay away from wireless printing because it doesn't matter who, it's unreliable, it's painful, it's not worth it. Did that with a friend's HP. Never again. Anyone tries to get me to help them with a wireless printer setup, forget about it. Not going there because it's a joke how bad the technology is all these years. But I never, ever expected something so sad, so full of fail, that it couldn't even get passed a simple installation of the driver in USB mode. That's like, impressive y'all.
This brand is not as straight forward as the other canon printer, I had canon for years and never faced with such a complicated printer instructions. thankfully, I did the installation wizard when I received it from instruction guide but now I have a hard time scanning because it gives me an error message. although this product was for sale, I thought I was actually getting a good deal online for a reduced price but I guess you get what you pay for right!. definitely not happy with this purchase.

The printer has no usb cable, so i connected it to my router, the one at&t connect for the internet, but when i look for the printer in my phone or ipad, or table, can´t find it. I´ve read about it and it says i had to download an app, which i did, and it seems to work, but not to print for example coupons from the page directly.. what can I do, to be able to print directly, how can i conect my printer to my cellphone? maybe if i buy the usb cable, the wifi in the printer stays free for me to print from another device, or how does it work.. thanks..

Hi, Joanne! The printer uses an 'A to B' USB cable. If you are replacing the printer with an existing one, you can reuse the same cable. If one is needed, they are sold in any store that sells electronics. Yes, the PIXMA MX492 does support laptop computers with the following operating systems: Windows XP SP3 or later, Windows Vista, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Mac running 10.7.5 and up. @@CanonUSA thank you for the reply. Tried both LAN and USB connections. Failed at establishing connection step. Windows says "Device works properly", but I cannot add it into printers list in MS Word.
@@CanonUSA that's funny. Restarted the printer as recommended. First it says "Printer is detected. Wait until installation is completed". After some time it says "The printer is not detected. Check the connection"....omg.... I really miss old days when printer connection took literally a couple of seconds...
